Try the last 10 minutes of the show of 23rd September for size.

Mostly it's just being tetchy, veering to shouting over guests and being downright rude to them - but that day he properly lost the plot.

ETA - here ya go! http://www.rte.ie/radio/utils/radioplayer/rteradioweb.html#!rii=b9%5F10624334%5F53%5F23%2D09%2D2016%5F

(I hope you weren't just being sarcastic with that post!!!)

No sarcasm - just never heard him get angry with a caller even if they deserved it.

Makes the paper of record too...
A man has claimed he is sub-letting 40 rooms on Airbnb that he has rented from landlords around Dublin.

Seamus Murphy told RTÉ’s Liveline programme that all the landlords he rents the rooms from are aware they are being sub-let to others. The rooms are in apartments and houses and located in the Drumcondra area, he said.

Mr Murphy, who said he worked as a lecturer, said he does not rent out rooms in his own house because his wife does not want strangers there.

I'm on my phone so can't post it but can someone post the Shane O'Curry interview for the newbie? Or the Rio Garda interview?

I don't listen every day but I've heard the show a lot over the years.

Either I've missed Joe's weekly meltdown every time or the frequency is somewhat exaggerated.

Anyways, can't believe he let the "American" away with that codswallop.

We had 3 major incidents on the show in September, incidents that even by Duffy standards were off the charts.

On an almost daily basis you'll get a sneering, sarcastic comment from the host, ESP. if you dare to have an opinion that is in any way different to his own.

If you were to criticize RTÉ however, prepare for his wrath.

As for weekly, you're probably technically correct as Joe isn't around remotely nearly enough to have a weekly tantrum.

Some of the callers deserve the sneering and sarcasm but sneery sarcasm isn't losing one's temper.

It isn't my intent to defend Joe - I simply came by to see what people made of that particular caller and to se why Joe didn't strip it apart. I wasn't saying he never gets angry, I was just surprised at the notion that he regularly loses his temper because I don't recall ever hearing such.

I KNOW DAT! I KNOW DAT! I KNOW DAT!
    (inside joke for regular listeners)

True, it's not the same, but I'd disagree with you on his right to be like that to guests/callers when he is supposed to be a professional and impartial host. I regularly make fun of some of the idiotic callers to the show myself, but the key difference is I'm not the host.

Trust me, he loses the plot/his temper regularly. A quick glance through any of the thread will show you as much. If he doesn't get his own way or if someone disagrees with him the inner bully comes out, and it does so frequently enough on here to have become a running joke.

Did you listen back to the piece with Cllr. Treanor? That's the most recent example and not by any means an isolated incident.

The man is a buffoon of the highest order. his ignorance and intolerance knows no bounds.

He doesn't listen to his callers, the audience who pay his €8k wages every week!

People pour out their hearts to the man on the national airwaves and he doesn't bother his arse to even listen to them, he just grunts and makes automatic sounds because he has no interest! Then he regularly makes inappropriate replies because he has not been listening and passes it off as a joke! he is stale and tired of the format of his own show so must be replaced!

Last month he accused a councillor of calling a Nigerian asylum seekers baby a canary when that is nowhere near what the man had said!

Joe said "you said she gave birth to a canary"

The councillor said "she nearly had a canary when she found out she was in northern Ireland rather than Dublin as she wanted her baby born in Ireland for the benefits"

Here is the podcast link to the meltdown with the councillor, there are several others too but like Joe I can't be arsed listening to them.

The man insulted the whole Brazilian police force in another show and basically asked a respected officer why he did not pull his gun and use it to clear the journalists away from the hotel room that Pat Hickey was hiding in! He worded his questions in such a way that he tried to make the officer look incompetent but it backfired on him and he was shown up as an ignoramus.

he behaves like a child when things are not suiting him

all the toys get thrown out of his pram

the Hen and the Dwarf episode is a perfect example of this

Hen is well able for him

He says something smart about her and cuts to an ad break

    She cant reply

Ad break is over,he comes back on and finishes the show early

Not forgetting of course had the Rio Garda actually pulled a gun on the journalists that Joe would be the first to voice his disgust and outrage at such an incident. "irony" however to Joe is something that is copper-coloured.

I hate to break it to you Spon Farmer, but your Emperor has no clothes.

Yesterday he had only admiration for Seamus subletting 40 rooms to put them up on AirBnB, this at the same time he's been taking call after call the last few years about the housing crisis and him demanding something be done about it.

Kalita came to Ireland on a holiday, missed her flight home and since then has been in a semi-homeless situation in Dublin, staying with a friend when she can but sleeping in a tent near the M50 on other nights. She spoke to Joe about the six children she left at home and the efforts she has made to return to the States.
