Me tomorrow morning to avoid being spoiled!! (although I have already been privy to the supposed spoiler)

    6f18f1cb2f5394362ff6d27ac64d3f69.gif

Damn the producers and ruining the scene by ending it like that on finale.

I have AMC but can't stay up until 3am unfortunately.

Been wondering how they can possibly recapture the tension and drama from where we left it. Simple answer is they can't! But so looking forward to this, just cos I'm interested to see how different they do it from the comics, if at all. I recall Scott Gimple saying they were going to go 'left field' which kind of concerns me.

Anyway I don't start work until later in the day so I'll wake up, drop the kids to school and then it's action stations!

not a spoiler for who gets killed but how the episode format "apparently" is
a mixture of present, flashbacks and "futuristic dream sequences" (Rick imagining an idealistic future where EVERYONE is sitting around a table eating or something!!

The whole thing is spoiled for me now. It's so annoying! In an era of social media and fanatical spoiler fans, to think they could hide such a massive and legendary scene from fans for 5 months or whatever it was is stup1d!

Nevertheless I will still enjoy it and I envy ye who don't have a clue yet!

PLEASE AVOID INTERNET UNTIL YOU SEE THE EPISODE!! You have got this far!!!

I honestly haven't a clue. I've somehow avoided it even though I have come across the usual clickbait headlines, etc. But you're right, no point in having it ruined at this stage so I'm logging off. I'll read your spoiler after the show and see how it went!

Yeah, a certain FB page released practically everything that happens 2 days ago! Maybe they are wrong, but they are 99% accurrate with their spoilers. Twitter went into overdrive after.

Jesus fcuking Christ. Don't read this if you haven't seen this yet right!

I hated this episode, absolutely despised it. There are so many good things in it to be honest, but the way they executed the killings (should have been killing, but of course not, cause fcuk the comic book fans right?) and the aftermath ruined this episode for me.

Positives before I move into the actual reason I hated the episode
    • The suspense was actually good, I really enjoyed it. Getting the POV from Rick was very good indeed.
    • The trip in the RV with Negan trying to break Rick was good (we'll talk more about that soon, it was nothing on the comic)
    • The actors were brilliant. Negan was fantastic once again.

Now, onto to the negatives. What the actual fcuk was that? Firstly, they killed off one of the most interesting characters in the whole thing. Abraham in the show vs Abraham in the comics is so different. I was always indifferent to Abraham in the comics but I loved him in the show. He was absolutely amazing, Michael was an amazing actor and he was so interesting, they could have done so much with him. But no, lets just kill him off when he starts to get good, especially when there are so many other sh1tty characters there! Sure tis grand!

Secondly, the reason that this is such an iconic moment in the comics is that it is so brutal and such a huge blow to the gang that there is no need for anything else! Dragging Rick away to make him break, having him pick up the axe to chop off Carl's arm, it actually isn't needed in the comics, because Rick realises he is powerless and can do nothing. That's what makes it so iconic (as well as Glenn's eyeball popping out, which I am glad they kept in, and his mushed head after, which I am also glad they stayed in). But they couldn't do that, noooo, they couldn't follow what is one of the most iconic comic moments of all time (up there with Doomsday killing Superman, all of the Killing Joke etc) and just keep it the way it was. Fcuk that! It's so easy to follow!

And then, they don't keep in another extremely iconic moment. Maggie smacking Rick in the face and calling him a coward. That adds even more poignancy to the moment, but of course they leave that out. Blah

The thing is, it should have been a great episode. There are a lot of things I like, but they over-used the moment, went about things the completely wrong way and spit on one of the most iconic moments of comic book history. So annoyed right now.

I thought that was extremely well made, the acting was fantastic and tension unbearable. It was very hard to watch in parts if you've watched the show since the beginning, it was also believable how Negan wore Rick and the rest of the group down.

Voted a ten one of the best episodes ever, I didn't expect this level of shock, it may be different from comic book readers perspectives.

    That was brutal.

I was right in my guess but didn't realise Glenn would go in such a violent fashion. Some very graphic imagery tonight. It's different when it's a walkers head getting bashed in. Bit more unsettling when it's a long standing character. Thought they might have veered away from killing off Glenn in a bid to stray from the comics more. Especially since they left such a wait to find out who died with his comic death(not that there was anything funny about it ;) ) being a bit obvious as to what would probably happen. Looking forward to the aftermath of it all. A couple of slow character episodes are needed now more than ever. I wonder when they bump Negan off will it be Rick who does kill him. Would like to see it being Maggie who gets that privilege.

Well they recaptured the tension and drama for sure, even more so than the finale IMO. I was sure Glenn was a goner before the season started but then I actually thought he was safe for minute or 2. It's all daryls fault! Cue another season of him brooding silently. Not too fussed about Abraham TBH.

Also, I find it weird that they can show such graphic violence - bashed in heads, eyeballs hanging out etc but they can't say the f word!

    Great work by Andrew Lincoln.

I thankfully avoided any spoilers, so I had no clue who was gonna get the bat...apart from coming to my own (semi-accurate) conclusions. Great episode all in all. The acting was amazing, that is certainly something The Walking Dead rarely falls short on.

I didn't expect the deaths to be shown to such an extent. So much so that I literally just sat there and stared blankly at the screen while it was happening, was weird. The only time I actually opened my mouth throughout the whole episode was when Daryl slogged Negan. I promptly let out resounding 'Oh for f**k sake'.

I'll give the production team some props, they managed to build up tension beforehand without overdoing it (IMO).

They'll have to put glenns name back up on that wall:-(

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭Dandelion6

As a non-comic reader I thought that was extremely well done. Very disturbing, and clever in how we all thought it was going to be Glenn, then were relieved that it wasn't, and then it was.

Was there a continuity error with the blood on Rosita's cheek or did I just not notice it earlier?

I gave an 8, thought it was very good but some disappointments, mainly the lack of Negan's potty mouth ha.

I was kind of hoping Negan would take Ricks hand too,

Loving Jeffrey Dean Morgan, can't wait to see more of Negan, I feel there could be a clear out of a lot of minor characters this season to and hopefully a couple more big one's to make way for some new ones.

Thought that was excellent and I usually criticise walking dead. Excellent acting, kept you guessing all episode and I wasn't expecting a second death. Glad they didn't make Rick chop the arm off as thats all kinds of ****ed up

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,911 ✭✭✭Washout

That was the most traumatic thing I have ever seen on TV.
Andrew Lincoln was excellent. you really sensed his anguish.

That arm chop scene was so tense i had to look away.

    10/10 for me

I don't think Rick is broken just yet. The way he looked at the walker at the end suggested that the walkers are no longer the enemy. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and all that.

Good episode overall. I'm just glad it's back.

I loved it, held me completely fixated in its entirety.

I also don't think Rick is beaten, but he knows there is nothing he can do right now, and the best course of action to keep his people safe is to go along with Negans demands. There is literally no alternative right now that does not involve certain death for everybody.

Wonder whats going to happen with Daryl, jesus what an episode!

I loved the way they did it, perfectly plausible way of breaking that group too.

Got an 8 from myself. Was a great episode but the comics were so much better in dealing with the whole situation. Negan was also better in the comics. The actor has done a great job but it was excessive that they had to do about a 100 things to break Rick and the gang in the show! Was just a bit too excessive surely they could have stopped after the kill. The gang were broken, or should have been. Was tough watching Rick be the b*tch for a change but again as I said having read the comics again recently I knew what was coming. So again a solid 8

Jesus Christ that was unreal. It was very tough to watch in parts, and I'd almost say they went too far. Almost! For a few horrible seconds I genuinely thought they'd make Rick cut Carl's arm off but there would have been an awful outcry if that happened...you'd be into torture porn territory with that!

But the way they conveyed the sense of brutal terrifying suspense was something else. As I said in a pre-show post I didn't see how they could recapture that but they did it as well as could be expected.

I disagree with the earlier comments about Abraham. I won't miss him that much as I thought they had made a bit of a mess of his character compared to the comics, I thought he was a bit cartoonish at times. But what a way to exit.

As for Glenn...it had to happen. it was too big a moment in the comic. Which brings me to my concerns about the 'left field' direction they had promised. I was 100 per cent convinced this would mean we'd get an extra death and so it turned out. But it meant that Glenn's death didn't have the impact it should have had...how could it when we had already seen Abraham killed? Having said that, I know people who had said they wouldn't be too bothered if it wasn't one of the original gang who got killed so it probably did have a huge impact for non-comic readers anyway.

I agree with the comment from Mrkiscool2 that the Rick/Negan/fetch my axe scenes were unnecessary as Rick had already seen two of his friends butchered so going straight from that to Carl's arm thing would have sufficed. But that scene of Rick lying on the top of the RV crying his eyes out was done very well.

Overall that was horrific and unbearable and highly emotional, and it will stay with me for a long while. I'll say it one more time that if they had condensed this one and the finale into one then it would have been more emotionally powerful. We've clearly reached peak grim with the show, so it will be interesting to see how Rick and Maggie in particular pick themselves up after this.

P.S. Anyone notice one of Negan's men taking the obligatory polaroids to hang up on the wall? :pac: That scene where Glenn saw the polaroid collection was as good as confirmation that it would be him.

Damn that was hard to watch I had known who dies thanks to one of my wanker facebook friends, but still very hard to watch, I was sure Karl was going to lose the arm the stress of watching that scene! The scene of Rick imagining the happy ever after with Abraham and Glen with his sun on his lap brought a tear to my eye!
Fantastic Tv with but a very hard watch :(
