Back to back Cubs shut outs is impressive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,138 ✭✭✭TimRiggins

Strange atmosphere at the Skydome today. Very very different to the wildcard game but thankfully the bats got going. Call me crazy, but we aint done yet. Ryan Merrion has only made one major league start so after hitting well of Kluber we should be able to get the win tomorrow with Estrada. Or so I hope. Just when i'm ready to let go of the season they reel me back in!

Great game by the Dodgers too. Now we'll see what these Cubbies are made of.

This game is gas. You're the best team by miles all year but when it matters most in October, your bats go quiet. Must win tonight now for the Cubbies with Kershaw lurking for Game 5.

It's interesting I think the way the 7 game series split goes 2-3-2. Means that if the visiting team gets even one win out of the first two games, they are at a huge advantage with 3 games at home. Though I can't think of a better way of doing it :/

3-3-1 maybe? I've been thinking about that lately too actually.

    2-2-2-1 for me.

I think hockey and basketball go down that route though I may well be wrong.

No NBA goes 2-2-1-1-1. With you're way, the lower ranked them would either host a game 7 or get more home games. It's a tricky one. I think the way it is now is probably right because the higher ranked team will get Game 6 and 7.

NBA has it right here I think 2 home 2 away then home away home, the higher ranked team will never play more away games than home games in that scenario.

would have to expect Toronto to win games 5 and 6 now as Cleveland literally have no pitching. Not sure it was the smartest move to start Kluber yesterday I would have left him to today. But that said Cleveland have been getting it done all year with their bull pen, so it will come down to that again this evening.

With the Dodgers/Cubs it looks to me a little bit like the Cubs are choking, their big bats have gone, Russell is hitting 0.045 in the post season and needs to be replaced at SS because of it but his defence is too good. Rizzo has been terrible, Bryant is keeping things going but they need some bats to get hot quickly.

I can see the Dodgers winning tonight, and going up 3-1
Then starting Kershaw in game 5 and losing, handing the momentum back to the Cubs

Cubs win Game 6 at home, and then Game 7 is up in the air

Really hope it doenst go like that though.
Dodgers win tonight, and again in Game 5
Or at worst, win tonight, lose game 5 behind anyone but Kershaw, and then win Game 6 behind Kershaw, after some crazy sort of home fan interference. Perhaps a fan runs onto the pitch and gets hit in the head by a long line drive that would have driven in the winning run, but instead gets called as a dead play, and the Cubs pop out

This Cleveland pitcher's been pretty good so far. Not bad for his 5th appearance or whatever it is.

3 no-hit innings is good alright. Did anyone else read Bautista's quote? He said any pitcher Cleveland put on the mound would be terrified, or words to that effect. He doesn't look too scared to me Jose!

    He looks about 12 too.

They now have 5 innings to keep the season alive. Tall order when your bats are freezing.

Miller will probably be pitching two of them too.

Yeah I think I'll head to bed. I'm on CET so it's half 11 here. This game's over as a contest I fear. Maybe they'll surprise me when I switch the Net on in the am.

    Here comes the bullpen.....

Merrit leaves the game. What a display by him. Jose will keep his mouth shut in the future.

That looks to be that with Miller coming in.

You never know. Stranger things have happened. I admit it doesn't look good though.

Miller, 1 pitch 2 outs. Inning over.

As well as the pitching, I've been very impressed with Cleveland's defence tonight. Some very good plays.

Miller - 8 outs in about 21 pitches.

Disappointed in the result but you have to be in awe at that pitching. It looked unfair at times.

First season following baseball, thoroughly enjoyed it. Great season from the Jays, really enjoyed watching most days and going to the Rogers Centre too. I don't think Jose will be offered a new deal but Edwin has to be.

Bautista has to be offered the qualifying offer though (if Blue Jays want compensation picks), which is ~$17 million this year. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Cubs looking seriously good. Blue Jays shut out at home for the first time ever in the postseason.

Do they? I'm still not sure how the whole free agent thing works in baseball but everyone here is pretty sure that Bautista is leaving.

Yeah if a team is losing a player to free agency and they want a compensation pick in the first round of the draft, they have to offer the player a qualifying offer which is a one year contract for the average of the salary of the top 125 paid players from the previous season. This is $17.2 million for this year.

Qualifying offers are still new (only around since 2011 I think) and only one has ever been accepted.
