Someone suggested we name our soon-to-be-born daughter Sal
    Not Sally. Sal

I could only think of Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon

It's chess restricted to women. Just like women's football or women's tennis. And a thousand other women's sports.

I met a child called Dunne today. I thought it was short for something but they spelled it out for me. It's not the worst but please, it's a surname! Apparently he was given that name because the name was gonna die out with him in the family. I reckon very much this is where the American trend of surnames as firstnames came from, and reckon we're not far from it ourselves.

Precious and Marvelous. They were 7 year old African kids that I met in a Limerick City national school.
They were male twins and seemed sound, but with names like that they are going to go down the Johnny Cash route.

That's very African though! I had a housemate called Eric, his real name we couldn't say, it has clicks in it and all. His best friend was Innocent. He brought around some mates called Carly and Fabulous. Also had a neighbour in Balbriggan who had a daughter called Fabulous. Eric told me his father knew he was going to need an English name so chose one he thought his son would get one with ok. Eric's father would have been more educated than many of his peers. They have their own African names that we'll never be able to pronounce, and the English name they've been given to make life easier. A (white) South African friend told me of a guy he knew called Oxford after the dictionary!

The famous county singer Patsy Cline was married to a man named Charlie Dick. They had two children:

    A boy called Randy Dick
A girl called Julie Dick (after she married, she became Julie Dick Fudge).

    You're welcome.

Puts me in mind of the late, great Randy VanWarmer - what was he getting up to in his HiAce anyway?
