Monday: plan called for some recovery miles. Travel to London coupled with a very long day meant more moaning and groaning than usual as I made my way down to the hotel treadmill late in the evening. Legs were willing enough but the mind wanted out so I left it at 3 very slow treadmill miles and retreated to my room for some room service comfort food!

Tuesday: changed hotel to one near Heathrow and got a late evening run down around industrial and housing estates, fairly monotonous but better than the treadmill.

    8 miles very easy @ 8.59

Wednesday: needed to be up early if I was to be sure of getting a run in today so I hit the same route as last night, just tagged on a couple of extra miles. Deja Vu run as it was done in the dark as well. 10.31 miles @ 8.25.

Flew to Casablanca today, and the hotel I'm staying in has a nice view over the town and mosque but better still had 24/7 gym access. Felt as stiff as a botoxed lip pout after the travel so I hit the treadmill for a couple of miles. Got 6k done very easy, to round off the days easy mileage.

    Total for day 14 miles.

Today: plan called for 2 mile wu/cd with 1,2,3,4,3,2,1 minute @ 5k pace off similar recovery.

Had an early morning meeting so I headed down to the gym around 6 to get this done. The gym has 3 treadmills, 2 were occupied already and the third was out of order. I'd to wait for over 30 mins to get on one and hadn't time to do the sessions so I just did 4 miles recovery. Watched part of a Saudi Arabia v UAE soccer match on the treadmill screen and it was about as exciting as my run!

I haven't been to Casablanca in about two years and the guy I met this morning told me I gotten very old looking, fcuker!!! Although he did almost made up for it by bringing me to a good fish restaurant right on the beach for lunch.

Another work colleague booked a late afternoon massage for us at the hotel spa. He kept giving me this big stupid grin as we made our way down for the appointment, and I was wondering what the hell was wrong with him! Got changed into a robe and some young one appeared and called out my name and beckoned me to follow her. She brought me into a tiled wet room with a big marble slab counter in the middle of the room and told me to get up on it. "Massage" says I pushing my two hands up and down in front of me. I thought she said "apres" so I tentatively lay on the slab after she motioned a bit more aggressively for me to get onto it.

The slab was heated and she put a towel under my head and then started spraying me with very hot water, I nearly crapped myself! I was tempted to get up and leave but I decided unless it started getting weirder I go along with it for another bit. She then covered me from head to toe in some soap and produced a rough cloth and brush (like you'd do the dishes with) and started wiping and scrubbing every inch of me. It wasn't unpleasant but I felt like I was been lightly sanded! Another round with the soapy stuff and then she covered me in this browny/black gloop, that was like muck. I looked like I'd just spent the afternoon bog snorkelling.

More soapy stuff and hot water and then she told me to sit up and she washed my feckin hair!! It must be 45 years since someone else washed my hair.

Was then taken to a relaxation room and my friend joined my thinking he played the greatest joke of all time, but I'd the last laugh coz his massage was sh1te and I really enjoyed my sandblasting. Wonder where I could get that done in Connemara :)

Feigned being a bit sick so I wouldn't have to go out for dinner and hit the treadmill for the mornings missed mini session.

Was very hot in there but I managed it all right, did the 1,2,3,4,3,2,1 min at 16kph and 7.1 miles done in total.

Total for the day 11 miles

Friday: travelling all day very late home, no run.

Saturday: missus TbL had a list of jobs longer than Donal Trumps apologies list for me to do around the house. By the time I'd finished I retired to the couch for the evening and got intimate with a bar of chocolate the size of the Golden Pages. No run.

Sunday: plan called for 3/4's marathon. Living in the bog has its advantages but having to get up in the middle of the night to travel to races outside the Pale isn't one of them!

Got to Longwood at about 8.45 and met a very official looking Tang in the Gaa grounds car park. He kindly offered to pepper spray me but I politely declined!! Fair few Boardsies knocking around and I met Meno, Younganne, Singer, Dublin Runner, Ecoli and introduced myself to a tall lad in black. Apologies Auld Man King I didn't have glasses on and besides your tan has receded from mahogany to brown :)

Picked up my number handy enough and got ready, big queue at portaloos meant I'd to high jump a gate into a field! Got a very gentle half mile warm up done and made my way down to the start. Agree with Singer, pushing everyone off the road and into a car park beside the start wasn't the greatest idea. Slogger Jogger was pacing the 3 hour group and he patiently answered the same question again and again despite the info been pinned to the back of his t shirt!

Decided I'd go with his pace group (7.15) and see how I felt. After about half a mile the "Black & Tan" AMK pulled up beside me and we had a good auld chat. We were running slightly ahead of Slogger Joggers pace group and I was feeling ok. After 8 miles I was desperate for a whizz and I pulled into the ditch and AMK sailed off into the distance not to be seen again till the finish.

Caught and passed the pace group which kinda left me in know mans lads but decided I'd just keep plodding on. By mile 10 I was dying for the jacks again but this time a quick stop in the ditch wouldn't do so I just kept going. Probably lucky for the pacing group that I was a bit ahead of them coz I was stinking the place out like a mobile silage bag! Struggled a bit from mile 17, and then I saw a police car coming up the road, the loudspeaker was turned on and blared out, "caution wide load approaching" Feck you Tang :)

    Think I finished about 2.20 for a 7.04 average.

20 miles today and s bit of a step back week this week with 56 miles.

Monday: plan called for 4 mile recovery. Absolutely no interest in running, was all over the place. Motivation always seems to drop off a cliff after a decent session or race so I resisted the urge to take the day off and binge eat, and I got 4.2 recovery miles done around the local GAA pitches.

Tuesday: again felt very lethargic, lazy and heavy legged but forced myself to get the planed 7 easy miles done over the Seanadh Pheistin roads @ 8.26.

    Wednesday:

Was driving to Dublin later in the day so I got 4 miles recovery done early this morning at just under 9 min pace.

First magical mystery tour of this cycle. Met up with Ecoli in the PP, and we headed off on a 2 mile warm up before doing a 3 & 2 mile and 1 km session at slightly north of MP, HMP and 10k pace. Nice day for it and it was great to have the company doing this, hopefully I'll be able to do it a couple more times before San Seb. Sluggish start but once I warmed up I felt ok and finished strong, had to rein in the pace towards the end as I didn't want to drain Ecoli too much given he's almost in taper mode ;) 8.9 miles.

    12.9 miles for the day.

No AMK wasn't there on first meeting,:p but he was there for the second meeting, but I was also meeting my legend Coach for the first official meeting, after 4 years of training. So overall it was quite a momentous day for me.

Far to quiet in here C what's happening? We need a travel log update..

The only thing travelling was my head rapidly hurtling into a meltdown!

Thursday 13th: 7 very early morning miles around Santry and the airport. Ankles and shins were very niggly and completely tightened up when I finished. Very sore so I decided to see the physioterrorist. Talus bone area completely inflamed and very nervy and cuboid area on both feet was very tender. Shin muscles were also like concrete. Was told to scale back the running completely and only run on the grass for a week to 10 days :(

    Friday: eating chocolate

Saturday: recovery miles around the local grass pitch.

Sunday: a bit longer easy miles around the same pitch

Monday: travelled to London for the week, recovery miles treadmill

Tuesday: burgers & chips, no run

Wednesday: over a hour at recovery pace on treadmill

Thursday: 12" mushroom pizza, no run

Today: got into Shannon late last night and drove to Kildare. Met up with some army friends to do a long run over the Curragh Plains early this morning. Got a classic backhanded compliment from one of the lads I haven't seen in a while: "the bit of weight suits you"!!!

Over 2 hours at recovery pace and all on grass.

Fingers and crooked toes crossed that I'll be able to go back on plan on Monday.
