Are there any small changes happening to the Golf for 2017?

Yes. Read the last couple of pages of this thread. A minor facelift. Actual details are sketchy and based mostly on speculation. But it's going to be minor enough. Lights/bumpers tweaks. More tech inside (digital dash).

All orders for the R and Clubsport will cease early next week in the UK, don't know what the situation here is but suspect the same will happen sooner rather than later.

Anyone here got a mk7 GTD, I've 3300km on mine and only getting 6.5l/100km long term, first new car for me so not sure how long it takes for engine to run in. I thought it would be better by now though. Thanks,

I've had that engine in two different cars now and it takes 15-20k km to start really giving it's best economy.

Has anyone fitted the R LED tail lights to a GTi/GTD, i'm considering it and I think that it should be a straight swap,

    It’s a straight swap.

If you’re to change into LED from a standard set-up, then this requires a lot of extra work in terms of wiring, adapters and removing trim panels to gain access to wiring looms.

Straight swap, very easy. Costly though.

I've been looking to buy a GTI for a few months now and I think I'm going to go for a 171. I have a trade - 08 Corrola with very low miles (40k). I hope I can get 4-5k for a trade then another 5-6k down in cash. On the VW site it looks like the spec I'd be after comes in at about 40k with payments of about 500 per month on PCP. I'd be looking to buy the car at the end of the three years. Just curious if anyone knows if the figures quoted on the site are what you would expect to pay at a dealer and are my figures realistic. Also is there any advantage of shopping at different dealers. Not sure how true it is, but I've heard you may get a better price from dealers outside of Dublin. Thanks for any replies!

Of course you shop around, different dealers may offer you more or less for your trade-in. And don't be afraid to shop afar either for the right deal. The car doesn't need to be serviced or warranty work done by the dealer it was bought from, any authorized dealer can service it or do warranty work on it.

If you are buying a 171 you may be able to try and shift your own privately to better the dealer's trade in value. Remember though, that their trade in value should be against the straight price of the GTi (a few K less than RRP) and not just RRP.

That's not how it works I'm afraid. The 4-5k you get for your trade in comes off the RRP. No discount. Of course they may say they're giving you 7-8k for the Toyota and they're building their margin into that. What matters at the end of the day is the cost to change.

As Gustavo says it will improve. My wife's 184 Leon was only doing a little better than that for the first 1000k or so. Probably around 6L/100k. It did steadily improve all the time though. Just past the 15,000km mark and long term is hovering around 5.6L/100k 50mpg. Alot depends on on your type driving. Most of our trips are around 20k on N roads with little town driving stuck in traffic. Pushing hard on the motorway does raise consumption to around 6L/100.

I do get better consumption than her when I drive it on normal roads as I brake a lot less :D and on motorways worse ;)

It really has impressed on long trips close to 4.5L/100k

Thanks for the reply. If the RRP is 40k they want 25% down, or 10k. If I can get 4-5k for the trade then 5-6k in cash, does that not give me the 10k?

It does surely, not sure what your question is?

5-6k of your own cash, right?
VW dealer will offer you X (say 6k) for the Toyota. That's 40k - 6k = 34k. So you need to find another 4K.
Alternatively try to shift the Corolla privately, then you're in a better position to negotiate a discount on the new car.

I took the R on a spirited drive around the backroads of East/South Galway yesterday with the fellas on Autostadt.ie. It was a brilliant day. I don't get to drive the car "on" very much in my normal commuting but yesterday, I really got a chance to see what it's capable of ;)

A great selection of cars old and new made the event! I averaged 25mpg for the day :D

I'm disappointed that I couldn't make it. Reading the comments, seems like it was a well run event. I'm definitely going to make the next one.

Same here bought a new car last year and posted a few pics and only one lad commented there seems to be a clique there allright because if someone buys a Vento for 100 quid they are all drooling over it....

I wouldn't say that's the case at all. The lads are all dead on and very welcoming to newbies. Like any forum / community it can take a few posts of your own to integrate yourself. There was at least 3-4 lads on the trip yesterday that were new to the forum.

If you're looking for a clique, look no further than the Motors Chat thread on here.

That does admittedly make it look a lot more active than I had thought it was previously. Maybe I was doing an iPhone 4 and using it wrong.

Well it's nowhere near as active as Boards.ie to be fair. But there's a good core group of lads who keep it going and I chip in myself as much as possible. There's also a very active FB page. The event yesterday was all in an effort to keep the community going.

It can be pretty dead Mal not that cliquey at all though, it's too small to be.

I found the same as OSI to be honest. Finding it oddly difficult to find a decent VW community and I thought it would be a case of having a choice and being spoilt, what with the following they seem to have here! :D

It really did make me realise how spoilt I was with the Ford community though, even the UK pages of the Ford owners clubs are seriously active compared to the VAG ones.

Pop over to Autostadt... say hello, post up a few pics of your car... attend a meet up or two. The event yesterday had a mixture of old and new heads, all got along fine. It is a fair observation though that there tends to be more interest and fawning over the older stuff, but that's to be expected in a way. Another picture of a new MK7 Golf is probably not going to get the pulses racing, but if you put a bit of a story up about it or tell a bit about yourself you'll get far more "interest"... I'm making it sounds like Tinder now, but you get the idea :pac:

Maybe people just didn't like your car?

Can you give a link to the Vento they're all drooling over that was bought for 100quid?

I was just wondering, just how much more VAG can and will push the 2.0 petrol and diesel turbo engines. The diesel has bhp figures that performance 2.0 turbo petrols had not too many years ago... And the high hp petrols like the R have figures that were once the realm of out and out sports-cars.
