Bloody hell, I followed George over to Facebook to watch him tell us why he would vote for Trump. I wish I hadn't, because I can never listen to this gob****e again now. His main point being Clinton and the democratic party's policies would never led to the certainty American needs, but Trump would. So according to Hook, Trump = certainty. Christ!

This all under a headline "Almost 1 in 4 Irish people would vote for Trump, according to a recent poll." Well 75% wouldn't. For a commercial entity that has never made a profit, does it really make commerical sense to have one of your primetime shows pandering to the 25% and alienating the other 75%?

The funny thing is he was quite the Hillary fan a few years back.

The funny thing is he was quite the Hillary fan a few years back.

He's turned into a complete fraud. He's reasons for supporting Trump are ludicrous and I don't think he believes it himself. The social media/text response to his islamis/refugee rants flattered his ginormous ego and he's being playing up to that image ever since.

But the thing to remember is..."it's only George"...and no one takes George seriously. The Right Hook was the show politician's used to go because the knew they would get an easy ride. Whenever he has anyone knowledge on to discuss these new found believes of his he looses the argument - easily.

    High Noon me hole.

Should've called it "The Bald Ego".

Turned it on today by mistake to hear Michael Graham spouting off. Turned it off after 30 seconds.

It's the exact same show as The Right Hook, just moved to an earlier time.

    I'm afraid it's actually worse.

I'd go for "The Man Who Shot Journalistic balance"

    I concur.

I used to turn over to George for a while most evenings, enjoying exclaiming 'ah George, you bollix' when he'd go off on one of his rants..

For some reason, maybe it's the time of day, or maybe that he has just seemed to have dialled up the level of smugness one notch too far with the new show, I can't hack it at all.

I haven't lasted more than 5 minutes of the breakfast show or the same of George since the 'revamp'

If it weren't for Moncrieff, I'd remove the station from my presets.

I think it's meant to be a slightly different format, prioritising "straight-talking, shoot-from-the-hip Hook" and his rants.

It doesn't even pretend to be a proper current affairs/news show now, which at least the Right Hook did. I agree with an earlier comment that the restraining influence of a producer seems to have been reduced in favour of giving Hook his head...

Hook is a terrible radio presenter imo

his voice and presentation style is all over the shop, liked him as TV rugby pundit though

I could not agree more, I have lived outside of Ireland for 30 years and cannot believe the downturn in the quality of our radio presenters. He must be the most useless irritating presenter I have ever come across.

From a purely business point of view the 75% are probably well served, who caters to the 25% ?

I have tuned a couple of times at 12 but he is just too much to take in the middle of the day.
He was fine when I was sitting in my car in the evening.

I loved The Right Hook, but this show is just a bit off the wall. George seems to have ramped his opinions up to be even more controversial than normal.

Hadn't listened for a while, caught a bit of it today to see if George had changed his mind on Trump.

He seemed to be saying he doesn't support Trump, but does think Irish people shouldn't be telling citizens of America how to vote.

Now, if that is the belief, should we be giving this election any coverage other than occasional poll results?

And wouldn't that mean the last number of months on his own show should not have happened?

    I'm very confused.

I will say, though, I do love the old eejit when he's doing less of the serious political stuff. Movies & music, even sport the odd time.

I often wonder why the american election is given so much coverage here.

I'm not ignorant tot he fact that the results will effect us in several ways, international relations and mainly trade, but the level of coverage and the scrutiny it gets baffles me, why are we dissecting press conferences and explaining what's behind what people say, we can't vote on this matter. I like a bit of coverage, see who's favourite and why etc...

To answer me own question really, is it just a bit...lazy... take what other news agencies are doing and build it into our media. Taking Newstalk as an example, it's going to be covered on 3 different shows, if not 4 throughout the day.

Because american elections are both hilarious and terrifying in equal measure.

Today George hook had a guy on to talk about maths, and spent about 5 minutes talking about how great he is at remembering phone numbers. I don't think George knows what maths is.

Next he's going to be talking about how ADHD is a made up condition and the kids just need a slap to sort them out. This is from the George Hook school of believing in false medical conditions relating to Vaccines, but not believing in actual real conditions like ADHD

Hook is a total joke who hasn't a clue about the real world and isn't interested in finding out.

The biggest troll on Irish radio atm, well apart from the host of that phone-in show on another station where scummers are given a platform to display their ignorance :(

I can see Newstalk dropping 70/80 thousand listeners as a result of these changes.

Breakfast will kill the station. 100%

I think there should be a disclaimer before the health spot. "The views expressed by George are half baked and do not reflect the medical proffession or any respected science."
George really has gone on an anti medicine/science bent lately. I bet if he gets sick he will be straight into a proper doctor. The man really is becoming a dangerous fool and I think he is doing it all for attention.

Peter Boyle making a statement on the HPV vaccine at the start of the item (which had nothing to do with what he had come on to talk about). Cant think that George is impressed with him.

Only one scummer on that station.

Hook is hopeless. A Katie Hopkins for the 30-50 year old middle class Newstalk listeners.

George thinks there are Eskimos in Iceland. Good Lord....:o

I'm beginning to like the show.

It's certainly better than the news show that was previously on Newstalk at the same time.

My biggest problem is that they took the first half hour interview off Moncreiff's show though.

I basically listen to nothing aside from OTB anymore.

I've 'moved the dial' to Radio One in the mornings.
