"The invested my money badly..." eh did you ever look at what funds your pension was invested in or check the performance each year to see if you should change it?

He should have made sure his money was invested in arms, basically.

Don't know about every pension fund, but as you say people can have some sort of say where their funds are invested, and how they're split. You can go balls in for the first few years and have it invested in riskier but higher yielding funds, or split it between safe and risky funds, moving it all to secure funds the closer you get to retirement etc.

Didn't this caller say he was responsible for designing and implementing the network, rather than the software?

Are you 100% sure on that? there was a list about a year ago of the RTE pensions and who was getting what and Joe was one of higherst earners followed by Derek M in 2nd place. I'll see if the interwebs will give up her dead:D

yes, I am. You must be mistaken. Joe's fees (not salary) are often discussed here, as is his holding company through which the fees are funnelled.

Trust me, I could be on Mastermind with Joe Duffy as my specialist subject at this stage.

No. Joe is a contractor. And a ridiculously paid one at that. €416,000+ for 75mins a day (incl. breaks), 4 days a week, 30-ish weeks a year in 2014 alone.

Just found the list and I'm standing in the corner of the studio corrected:D

Why did she have 2 critical illness policies?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,829 ✭✭✭✭Dan Jaman

Ah, feck off caller. If you'd come down with a Critical Illness, they'd have coughed up thousands for your hide.

The money would be for premiums, if she was "unlucky" enough to get no critial illness she would have got nothing too.
