This guy has his facts wrong surely:

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/older_and_retired_people/state_pension_contributory.html

"The State Pension (Contributory) is paid to people from the age of 66 who have enough Irish social insurance contributions. It is not means-tested. You can have other income and still get a State Pension (Contributory)."

Maybe he's mixing it up with some other payments he gets?

He mentioned it's not actually a state pension, but some sort of disability pension or payment - so he's got a cheek to complain about it really. When he reaches proper retirement age, his state pension will be paid in full and unaffected by any clawback, as far as I can see.
    Basically, he's whinging about nothing.

I suppose we can hardly expect to have a pension "Expert" on to outline the true facts, this type of "Bar Stool" expert will only confuse people even more. Typical of the standard of the Live Line.... :(

You would think Duffy and his army of researchers would have used Google to verify the rubbish coming out of the first callers mouth was true. If your self employed the private pension is a great way to avoid be tax efficient so to speak.

If he was an employee of RTE he would be entitled to a big pension I presume.
I think he is a contractor so he has to sort his own out.

"Who's gonna pay for it? This is the question that's never asked."
    Sez Joe.
Oops, Joe. I wouldn't open that particular door if I were you.

No No no our Joe and the Bauld Derek Mooney are two of the few remaining holdouts within RTE who didn't take the dangerous plunge into self employment.

Less than €300 a week and also getting the €233.30 state pension if you have your house already paid for is a nice wedge so to speak.

No. Joe is a contractor. And a ridiculously paid one at that. €416,000+ for 75mins a day (incl. breaks), 4 days a week, 30-ish weeks a year in 2014 alone.

The state pension is fecked, on paper we need to at least double the workforce to come even close to covering it in 10 years or so.

Dermot Aherns pension is €110k a year...
He claimed to be in the dark about his own pension but new figures reveal former justice minister Dermot Ahern is collecting almost €110,000 a year in State pension payments.

Are you 100% sure on that? there was a list about a year ago of the RTE pensions and who was getting what and Joe was one of higherst earners followed by Derek M in 2nd place. I'll see if the interwebs will give up her dead:D

"The invested my money badly..." eh did you ever look at what funds your pension was invested in or check the performance each year to see if you should change it?

In fairness it's unfair to pick out on the HSE, a hell of a lot of civil servants got some good deals over the past few years when it came to early retirement in order to reduce staffing and salary levels. I would have loved one myself.

If only we discovered a massive gas field off the coast that would be inside out territorial waters.
