Fell asleep watching the Red Sox game last night only to be woken up by that home run from Bautista. Thought another loss was going to be on the cards so was chuffed to see we turned it around. :)

For someone very new to the sport that At Bat mobile app and MLB.TV are excellent services!

Yes, they really are. Great value for money too. I'd love if they added the MLB Network to it but it's been asked for numerous times over the years but they show no sign of including it.

I went and bought the app a few weeks back, the Gameday section along with the audio was great for matches BT weren't showing. Then signed up to MLB.TV premium for under about a fiver for the remainder of the season (think it's free now) and only then noticed you get the app free with it. :o Can't complain though, great value it is.

What does MLB Network give you that TV wouldn't?

MLB Network is just their 24 hour TV station. Talk shows, highlight shows etc. You get the NFL Network with Gamepass and I think you get the NBA equivalent with whatever their package is called too so it is a bit disappointing that MLB don't include it with their package

Great tackle by Angel Pagan in the outfield last night

Yep if they don't get it it's Big Papi's fault not their own.

Blue Jays had 13 batters left on base in the game, disgraceful that Ortiz contributed to that that from his DH position.

Then using his superpowers to make Russell Martin throw a routine throw to first out of play instead was just not fair. That error changed the game and was all Ortiz's fault.

He owes the whole city an apology

    Lol was only joking bud.

Magic number 0! Mets host the NL Wild Card game next Wednesday. Bring on whoever!

Key play: Ejection of Cespedes in the 9th. He's out, Conforto makes a tumbling catch to end the game! Woohoo!

Well you hardly thought I was saying that seriously about him when about a page ago I said I wouldn't begrudge him leaving with a WS.

If you look at replies after your post you'll see I'm not the only one who took it up like that

Bah, Mariners lose in 10 innings to finally be eliminated from the wild card race and to keep the longest playoff drought record alive.

Interestingly if Detroit win both of their last games and Baltimore and Toronto lose tomorrow, then there'll be a 3 way tie for wild card.

Seattle had their chances to win that one last night from what I've read. But it doesn't come down to just one game I suppose. How do you think the team looks going forward?

Shows what I know. When they were two games under .500 in August and the injuries were beginning to mount I was in favour of writing the season off and shutting down Noah, deGrom and Matz as they were all pitching with injuries and they could all come back and have a good crack at 2017.

As it turned out deGrom and Matz ended up getting shutdown anyway but Gsellman and Lugo have been pleasant surprises. I know only one payoff game is guaranteed but it's been a fun last month.

I think I'll need about 4 screens working overtime today. Going to a great day of baseball with plenty to play for and all the games start at more or less the same time so I'd imagine there'll be plenty of changes of fortune as the evening progresses.

As my team aren't involved, I'm hoping for a game 163 anyway, especially in the NL so I'm rooting for a Cards win and the Dodgers beating the Giants

Bad loss for Baltimore last night and big for Toronto (Boston fans should be worried about Kimbrel going into the playoffs too). Detroit still hanging in there despite loss but need help.

(And there's NFL and Ryder Cup this evening as well. Thank God Mrs. Presley is way for the weekend!)

2d time in franchise history they've gone to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. 2

20 other teams would gladly trade places with the Mets (or other WC teams) today. A few days off till the game, only a short drive up the NJ turnpike to get home, hopefully players can heal up a little esp. Cespedes who has been slumping of late and is playing through that leg injury.

I always felt this would be an injury-plagued season for the pitching and it was, I just looked at an e-mail I sent a friend before the season on how injuries would be the issue this year, due to the long postseason in 2015. Sure enough..... I did like it when Smoltz, covering the game yesterday, said every team has to find a way to manage pitching injuries, way too many of them.

Next year, pitching will be the number 1 question by far. Harvey's been quoted as saying his rehab's 'going slow', Wheeler's not close, Syndegaard due to have a procedure for bone spurs or something, Matz and de Grom having surgeries, theoretically it might be Colon, Lugo and Gsellman and who knows as the starters next year.

Well that didn't end up being as exciting as I hoped. The Giants had their game wrapped up early and Detroit never got going against the Braves.

Nice effort at a no-hitter for Sanchez as well.

"I've said enough for a lifetime. And for the last time, I wish you all a pleasant afternoon."

Wonderful sign-off from Vin. I'm going to miss him.

Aaron Sanchez wasn't even sure he'd be a starting pitcher during Spring Training. He finished as the AL ERA leader. Great performance from him today. What a stud. Looking forward to attending the WC game on Tuesday. Rogers Centre will be rocking.

I love the atmosphere at playoff games. Rogers Centre gets very loud if my memory serves me right.

I'd love a Toronto win so we can see them going up against Texas again. That would be a great series with the recent history between them.

Yeah Rogers Centre will be bouncing Tuesday really can't wait. $120 for a ticket in the upper tier but never been to a playoff game and might not get to see Jose and Edwin play for us beyond Tuesday.

Yeah that Texas series will be crazy if we get there. That will be a special atmosphere.

Best of luck to you guys too, Went to your game against the Yankees in August with my uncle and consider the Mets my second team! Very hard one to call that, as well as Toronto/Baltimore.

Mets going to need a bit of luck going up against Bumgarner. He's already won his 2 starts against the Mets this season but anything can happen on the day and with Noah going for the Mets, we still have a shout!

    Enjoy your game tmw!

So any predictions for the playoffs lads??

For me like most years, I think it's wide open but the impartial fan wants the Cubs to beat the Sox in the WS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,950 ✭✭✭McLoughlin

It's an even year so the Giants will win :) but as Red Sox fan it would be great if Papi went out a champion but honestly I think it's pretty open field

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,138 ✭✭✭TimRiggins

You'd have to fancy the Cubs but yeah its an open field. The American League in particular is very open. All 5 teams have a chance imo.

    Crap shoot.....like most other years.

You really have to say the Cubs are favourites but the team with the best record doesn't always win and despite having Joe Madden, I think the pressure is going to be immense on them and I can see them faltering. I can't see the Mets winning a series against them but if the Giants win Wednesday, I could see them beating them. Either way though, I think LA wins the NL.

I'd like Toronto to go all the way in the AL but I think Texas beats out Boston to take that pennant.

And Texas to beat LA in 7.

(Bear in mind that I am the world's worst predictor so it'll probably be Washington sweeping Baltimore).

It's nothing but a sheer guess (we all know anything can happen, it's a crap shoot between all really good teams) but I'm going Cleveland vs Chicago WS.

Id love Toronto to go all the way but if I was a betting man my head would say not to put a penny on them. But you never know...

Thing about the playoffs and Toronto is the rotation of Sanchez, Happ, Estrada and Stroman/Lirano is excellent and they may be a little more relaxed at the plate with the pressure of not making the playoffs over them.

In saying that, i'm incredibly nervous about tomorrow night an think if we don't have a lead going into the 6th/7th we don't have much hope as the Orioles bullpen is good and Zach Britton in insane.

1986 replay, Mets/Sox, Mets in 6 and no damn Bill Buckner errors needed this time!

(Disclaimer: I will always pick the Mets until they're eliminated.)
