Only half heard it but Clarke said something about not having enough time to pick his pairs yesterday, presume he was talking about the 4balls but interviewer didn't press home the point.

I guess referring to Bello playing really well in the closing holes - should/would have picked him instead of WW.

So were they 4 down when he submitted his afternoon teams or not?

I think we all know the next one is in Paris at this stage.

Ah yeah, got it now. To be fair, I could see where Clarke would be coming from on that. But he's not in much of a position to be making excuses.

    So what?
Great talks don't help you sink putts.

No great putts don't but you need someone with a bit of personality and va va voom at times like yesterdays disasters and Clarke do not have it. Look I like Clarke as a golfer but he is not someone I go for a talk when down after a bad day

Exactly. If you could bring seve back it woulldnt have made any difference. No can say the Europeans weren't up for this. Beaten by better side. Some of our bigger players didn't do what was needed. Not because of captains, speeches or lack of motivation but because US team was better. No shame in admitting it. Europe lost Ryder cup on Friday morning session and were always playing catch up.

Best ryder cup match ever? Wasn't even the best match played today.

    Clarke. Europe's Hal Sutton.

Phil and Sergio were 100 under par today yet Rory and reed is the best match in the history of golf according to Sky????

    Really!!!!

    Just realised

Pieters got 36.3 % of our points and played with Westwood in his first game.

That man deserves a serious few Belgian beers.

    All from Clarke.

I decided to give this a swerve after about 8pm. It was just too vitriolic and heated so I turned it off. Fair play to US though, they got the job done.

I'm sure they'll be a lot said about today, who did well, who didn't etc, but it's interesting to compare the narrative on social media versus the reality of the scoreline.

You'd swear McIlroy and Reed was a game for the ages......McIlroy was (only) -3! One shot better than the much maligned Lee Westwood. -2!

You can laugh about the statement of it being closer than the scoreline suggests, buts it's true. The US won 4 matches by 1 hole (Europe lost the lead in each of these 4), compared to Europes 1. The back 9 was shocking for Europe today, had they played that differently it's a different ballgame.

All the English players lost today, and delivered only 2 points of the 11 earned by Europe over 3 days, despite making up 50% of the team!

The score of the Europeans today

    Garcia -9
    Stenson -8 (16 holes)
    Pieters -6 (16 holes)
    Kaymer -5
    Cabrera-Bello -5
    Wood -4
    McIlroy -3
    Westwood -2
    Rose -1
    Sullivan E
    Willett E
    Fitzpatrick E

The best player only managed to get a half! I think Kaymer and Garcia did enough today to show they were valuable members of the team, excellent scoring from both of them. 6 of the bottom 7 scorers were English. The top 5 scorers there put in a great scorecard today.

"The US won by six points. It looks like it was a drubbing but it wasnt"

Such rubbish they come out with.

I knew Europe would get a drubbing.

    But I get that narrative.

A match swinging is a 2 point swing.

    Rory lost his match today.

    Day 1 - morning was a freak.

Rose hold nothing all week. Yet just won the Olympics on a harder set up.

It is slight changes that change the score dramatically - momentum moments cause 3 / 4 point swings

It was yeah, but I'll be honest I've been boozing and don't understand the 100 under par.

    They are all mates
    Play same tour
    Live in same areas
    Are friends
    wives are friends.

I loved Rory being passionate - but , I'd prefer he was more up for a major to be honest. This is just as he said himself an exhibition.
He needs 10 +majors , not to worry about Patrick Reed a lad with hardly a top 10.

But that is always the way. We just dont scrutinise each point won so much when we win the cup, particularly if the win is big like several in the last 20 years. You walk away from a win of several points - and the Americans will do it this time similarly - thinking you gave the opposition a tonking, the strategy was perfect, you were the best players, inspirational, team spirit, etc. The Americans will put this down to the 'task force', 'process', having Tiger there but in a discrete way, having bubba there, whatever. But in truth, it swings on small things, and mainly random ones which could as easily have swung the other way. A one inch swing in a few putts for example, and the story can be very different. Without anyone really having done anything differently.
