Back in the late '80's, The Sunday Tribune (I think) did a fabulous 3 part profile of Heffo. I kept it for years, but it got thrown out in a house move. I'd love to have another read of it, if anyone knows of its online home. There was plenty of Dubs football stuff in it, but there was loads about his career in the Labour Relations Board & how he went about mediating strikes. It was fascinating stuff. We could certainly use him again, to have a word in Dublin Bus's ear, on Saturday week.

Think that was Magill PD? Have it somewhere buried in the debris!

On current matters, I reckon Dub women have great chance of beating Cork at last today.

If that search fails, there's an online archive here for a small fee http://politico.ie/magazines/magill

I've no connection with them but my first job in the Big Smoke was with them. The early 00's....My heyday, not theirs.

If I find it I will scan it. Definitely Magill. Doubt you find it online.

    Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll give it a go. What time do people start queuing down at the ticket office on Tuesday to collect Parnell Pass tickets?

I have a hill PP for myself but collecting for friends who have stand passes and they're concerned about where they'll be sitting. Seemingly they had a choice of sitting together in the upper Hogan or separately in the lower when they collected for the last game.

    Thanks

Dublin girls cheated out of it today. Scandalous decision too not award a point that robbed them of a replay.

Very VERY soft penalty at the end. Were well beaten in the 4th quarter

Maybe so,but there'll always but periods in the game when one team is on top. Very much tainted AI for them, not that they'll care.

Be a disgrace if no replay after the hurling fiasco. I didn't agree with the Meath replay earlier in the year but the GAA have set a precedent so they need to implement this across the board in my opinion.

It was clearly a point. The game might have taken a course a little bit differently had it been given. I very much doubt the softest of pens would have been given if there were but 3 in it at that stage though.

'Tainted' all Ireland - don't think so but you are probably correct in thinking cork people won't care, I certainly don't!

Any ideas why Hawkeye not in use for the ladies, would have sorted out the issue pretty quickly.

Edit,. Link posted in the cork thread about why it wasn't in use last year, costs of recalibration of the smaller ball apparently.

Ladies football isn't part of the GAA.

True. Remembered that the second after I posted. My bad.

If you're going to be that wasteful you don't deserve to win.

Same old story with this ladies team. They were the better team last year also.

Disgusted is the only word that I can use. LGFA have left Dublin down and the game down by not paying for the recalibration of Hawkeye. Can fork out to send their top brass on unnecessary jaunts around the world, but not to ensure the best of technology is used in the game.

Though I have a feeling, when emotions run cool again, the 13 wides that they shot will be identified as a big cost. It does come back to ifs and buts, if that point was over, if they put over one of those wides. This Dublin side is a fantastic side, and Sinead Aherne coming back was a big extra, but I think the management team may need to be changed. Four time the manager has come up against Cork with two different teams and still can't beat them. Some group of players coming through as well, with u21 All Ireland winning players starting to come through - will definitely be near the final again next year

Ah, yes, because if they had been correctly awarded that, the whole game would have played out the same way.........

It was an awful decision at the time but they shot over a dozen wides after . Had ample opportunity to come back. And were even awarded a very soft penalty

All we heard from Dublin fans after the Kerry match (re the kickable free not given at the end) was how these things balance eachother out over a course of a game.

It was not a game changing incident though. This is the point. The penalty awarding was a possible game changing incident though. There may have been a point in it at the end but was countless time left and they had countless opportunities.

If anything, Cork could be extremely irritated that that penalty was given at such a crucial time, had Dublin managed to go on and equalise.

    Well said.

How the management don't realise what Cork do to them every time is a mystery. You pay for the early rabid intensity if the other team hold you and are biding their time. Cork saw them coming and when they upped the intensity late on they were all over Dublin.

Wouldn't make too much of the point that never was. Better team won.

Dublin lost the game due to ridiculous wides and numerous balls dropped short into the goalkeepers hand. They absolutely dominated the first half and played some outstanding football up until it came to finishing off with a score.

The intensity of the game today was ferocious and the physicality was massive. Once Cork got their nose in front they showed the experience and cuteness that Dublin don't seem to have.

The bad call on the point shouldn't have made any difference. Dublin have only themsleves to blame for not killing Cork off earlier in the game. They are still a young panel and hopefully the can add the killer instinct to what are an extremely talented group of footballers

Dublin attacking with 6 players; Cork defending with 10.......Dublin couldt get through it; this is where all the wides and balls dropped into the goalie came from.

Kicking points from distance is a skill that Dublin didn't display today. Cork kicked some great points from distance in the second half.

If Dublin had done the same thing they'd have won the match irrespective of the 10 man Cork defence.

Fair play to Cork who ground out the win.

Can you imagine Wimbledon having Hawkeye for the Men's tennis only!

All the money they make, especially the bonus of the men's final replay. Totally insulting to these teams today, regardless of the outcome.

Two separate organisations which is where the problem lies

The cost wasn't the issue. Using Hawkeye was voted down by the Ladies GAA because it is not available in all grounds. A wrong decision then, proving costly today. In any case I don't think we can blame that on why we lost. Even the penalty puts a gloss on it and gave the scoreline that crucial point difference which ignites the controversy. We lost because we couldn't score when we had the chances. We were all over them in the first half, but didn't put that advantage onto the scoreboard. The absence of scores, not the absence of Hawkeye is why we lost.

Have you got a source for the piece in bold - I haven't heard anything like that come through

    Mentioned in this

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2016/0925/819151-dublin-cork-appeal/

A spokesperson for the Association explained that using Hawk-Eye for Ladies football championship games was discussed at Central Council level earlier this year – but it was decided not to do so.

The spokesperson said: “It went in front of Central Council, whether or not to use Hawk-Eye, earlier on this year.

“The decision was taken that in order to have a level playing field for all teams playing on all fields throughout the country, throughout the championship, that we wouldn’t use Hawk-Eye.”

LGFA President Marie Hickey explained before last year’s final that Hawk-Eye wouldn’t be commissioned – partly due to associated costs.

Hickey said that there would be logistical issues around using the score technology, as the system would need recalibrating due to the fact that the size 4 football is a size down from the football in use for men’s fixtures.

However, the spokesperson today insisted that this year's decision had nothing to do with recalibration work due to ladies using a smaller ball, or cost.

As for what Dublin might do regarding an appeal, McGonigle added: "We'll see if anything can be done. That's something for the county board to look at. We manage the players and we'll leave that to the people on committees.

“If there is a right there then I do believe we should be offered a replay. There’s possibly a loophole where there mightn’t be a replay.”

When asked if Dublin have a case for a replay, the spokesperson replied: “I don’t have a rulebook in front of me but I would think no.”

I haven't seen recent Central Council minutes, but that is a rubbish excuse tbh!

Any truth in the rows in the dub camp?
Or is just the media stiring it up

Nothing I can see in the reliable media sources - RTE, Irish Times, Independent, Examiner - perhaps the Mayo News are running a feature.
