Watched the Dolphins game again last night and Jimmy G was fantastic, The commentator noted at one point - "Garoppolo is very Brady like" Jimmy said when he came to the Pats he thought of himself as a real, real hard worker and then he saw the work that Brady puts into his game. So it's obvious in his play & prep that Brady has rubbed off on him. Personally I wouldn't trade Jimmy even if we were offered two 1st rounders. I don't see anything coming down the pipeline QB wise and I think we should try and hold onto Jimmy. Because if we let him go and Brady's reign ends, then I think we'll really regret it.

We wont have the option to keep him. If Brady doesn't retire next season Jimmy like all the others will be gone. It would take extreme loyalty for Jimmy to stay and not want to get starting football elsewhere.

thats exactly it. Jimmy has shown up well and will have brought attention to himself. Plenty of teams would take a chance on him like they did with Cassell, Hoyer, Mallett, who all were arguably less of a prospect than Jimmy

Yes, I'm being completely optimistic that Jimmy will pass the big money elsewhere and I'm hoping for the fairy-tale scenario. But let a man dream.:(

It does bring the talking point of if Bill thinks Jimmy is the future QB for the Patriots will Tom Brady retire as a Patriot or will he be shipped out at some point. We all know Tom isnt ready to retire but it begs the question have they ever discussed it with Tom. Do we risk losing Jimmy or do we make a bold move next season and go with Jimmy and ship Tom. Easy to say there is no way we ship Tom Brady out but we all know Bill does what Bill does and that brings an interesting decision at some point.

Barring injury, I expect Brady to play out his contract which will take him to 2019 I think. His suspension over a pile of nonsense, has no doubt motivated him even further to keep playing at the top level, not that he really needed it. We all know Tom never likes to leave the field, but with Jimmy having earned his and the coaching staffs respect, who knows? Maybe they'll share some games or just do enough to keep Jimmy happy to stay. If Bill & Rob think Jimmy's the man to take the reigns when The GOAT retires, will they work out something with Brady & Jimmy and work towards a seamless transition when the time comes? The odds seemed stacked against that, but when it comes to football and the rest of the league, the Pats have always done things different. Jimmy's contract runs to the end of 2017 and if Brady wins a 5th ring before then, then for me, I think the likelihood of Jimmy taking over increases.

First thing, that Hitler video is awesome.

I remember hearing an interview with Brady's dad and he said it won't end well for Tom and the Patriots because he will never want to retire.

I hope it doesn't end that way because he is a Patriots legend and I'd hate for anything to get in the way of that even slightly.

I really don't want to think about week 5 right now. If Jimmy G plays Thursday at the same level as he did last Sunday and then beats the Bills on the first Sunday in October it's going to be awfully hard to bench him. I really don't know how I'd feel in that scenario. It would be eerily similar to how Tom started his career.

Brady will start week 5 no matter what happens in Week 4. The question becomes long term down the road. Bill has already stated Brady starts week 5 no matter what and I can't see him sticking to Jimmy. But if Jimmy plays well in week 4 if on the field like he did that first half on Sunday then the questions will be asked what next?

Trade him and we lose an already ready QB to take over which we knew would potentially happen.

Keep him and then we decide what to do with him and if he wants to stick around and stay in Bradys shadow.

Either way going to be tough decisions all round.

I know I am being overly optimistic by hoping it will end well for us. But I don't want to think about what could go wrong. When Brady took over from Bledsloe, Bledsloe had begun a decline, but we haven't seen that decline yet in Brady. He was the best QB in the league last year so I think he will start week 5.

I always imagined Bill and Tom would retire Patriots together.

The type of guy Bill is and how he lives for the X&O's I would be very surprised if he doesn't go at least another 6 years at least. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go until his mid seventies making it another 10 years.

Brisset doing the business so far. Clever in the pocket and nice little run game. I like the confidence he has in his own ability!

Sensational performance. I guess the only downside to tonight's showing is that it's probably cemented McDaniels getting a HC job somewhere next year which is a drag.

Matt Patricia too, defense was stellar...while we're at it, the special teams coordinator will be getting calls at the end of the season too

    That was extremely satisfying :)

The defense played for 60 minutes and Bill will be well pleased with that. Last week the secondary fell asleep and could have cost us the game. Tonight they were fast, aggressive and hunting in packs. And that was the most pleasing part of tonight's win for me.

Outstanding work by all involved. That is a hell of a job from Bellichek and co.

Nor did I, but what a coaching performance.
Bill, with Josh and Matt, just a masterclass in preparing a team.

Whats our qb trade value atm? would they be first round pick worthy?

Both backups looked so solid, and both could be potential starters on other teams.

Jimmy? Probably, even with the limited time he has had.
Jacoby? No. limited gameplan worked a treat, but long way to go for him yet.

I'd agree with your assessment there. I think we'd have no problem getting two first round picks, a second round pick and other picks for Jimmy G right now.

Brissett is not the complete article yet but what he did show last night is that he is not fazed on the big stage. He also showed impressive running when he got the opportunity. His accuracy needs a bit of work but he has had very little time with the first team and most would expect him to improve a lot the more time he gets with them.

I can see some teams who are really screwed at the QB position looking at him and thinking he is worth more than a top level college prospect. I think we will get good offers for him in the coming weeks.

Two 1sts, a 2nd and additional picks for Garoppolo?

    Are you smoking crack?

would Jimmy be happy to sit behind brady for another 2/3 years and then take his shot?

I'm really hoping for that. Ya we might get a good deal for him now, but looking long term, there's nothing in the pipeline talent wise. The sensible move is to try and keep him because he's proven he's comfortable in and can run our offense very well. The Cardinals game did it for me. We were given no chance of the win, McDaniels said the crowd was so noisy & hostile he couldn't hear himself think. But Jimmy lapped it up like a duck to water, looked completely at ease and had a commanding presence on the field and you could see the respect from his teammates.

No amount of 1st round draft picks can guarantee that's the kind of player you'll end up with a trade. Keeping him happy and hoping he'll wait his turn is the key though. And if Brady wins a 5th ring in the next year or two, you never know, he might be quite content and happily step aside to let Jimmy step up. That's not necessarily saying he'll retire, because I always had a feeling if Brady was going elsewhere, it would be back to his childhood team the 49er's.
