Tense ending. Think Pats would have lost it if it went to over time.

Looking at free agent QBs. No inspiring options out there, Matt Flynn and Ryan Lindley have spent time on the roster before and TJ Yates has played under Bill O'Brien in a similar offence

Peyton Manning is free at the moment.

His very dramatic drop off in form from 2013 to 2014, after the NFL brought in HGH testing in 2014, probably rules him out though.

So is Brady actually any good or just a result of the system he plays in? Looking at Garropolo these last 2 weeks & Cassell in '08, the Pat's really don't suffer when Brady is out. :p

So Jimmy is out for game 3, such a shame as he's been doing a great job so far.

What do you think we do, sign a FA QB, or get Julian a few reps in practice this week...

It's not the first time the Cassell myth has been mentioned down the years, but it ignores clear and simple footballing facts. Cassell playing with virtually the same roster that Brady played with 2007, went 11-5 and did not make the playoffs that season.

In summary 2007 with Brady = 18-1, AFC East Champs + playoffs + AFC Conference Champions.

In summary 2008 with Cassell = 11-5, did not win the AFC East or even make the playoffs.

Brady won 95% of all games in 2007. Cassell won 68% of all games in 2008.

I think Jimmy G has been the best QB backing up Brady since Brady took the reigns. He's a very smart guy and was eating the playbook the moment he arrived a Foxboro. He quickly assumed a leadership role with fellow draftees and younger players, he has been brilliant on the scout teams and to me he has look liked the heir apparent to Tom. Unfortunately for Jimmy though, Brady was brilliant yet again last season and as long as Brady keeps being Brady, then Jimmy will have to sit tight or go elsewhere. Barring injury, I fully expect Brady to break records for the oldest QB playing at the highest level. I just hope Jimmy will sit tight, because he has proven to me that he has the smarts & the talent to run our complex offense.

Unfortunately, reports are suggesting he could be out for up to 6 week, but either way, it looks like he'll miss the rest of the games before Brady returns. It's real shame because it would have be good to see how his 4 games went overall.

It's unlikely they'll gamble on Minitron covering Brissett if he goes down. I also might be wrong on this but I think Cassell could be available to cover. He would be probably the most sensible choice, since he's had a previous handle on our offense.

I think Cassell is the backup in Tennessee.

Brissett has had virtually no time with the first team so we just have to wait and see how he gets on. I have a feeling he could be very, very good. If he comes in and looks good then I'm looking forward to all the first round draft picks we are going to have in the 2017 draft when we trade one of them.

On free agents, Josh Freeman hasn't ever stuck anywhere since Tampa but he has the type of game that would do well in New England I think.

Looks like they won't be signing anyone. Brisset to start with Jimmy as back up. Going to be a tough game.

My bad, I didn't know that.

I know Higginsj was having a laugh but what is funny is people being serious about Brady being the product of a system. Cassell had a great team around him including Moss. But with Jimmy G lets not forget he is a 2nd round pick and realistically what he is doing right now playing wise is what you would expect of any QB taken in the 1st 2 rounds. I hate the whole argument. Sure Bill and Josh make it easier for these guys but you got to laugh at the hater nonsense.

On the injury it is an AC Joint sprain and the Patriots are apparently hopeful he will be back week 4.

What is funny Edelmen is now QB2 for Thursdays game should Brissett get hurt

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

We better not be going in without a backup QB. That would equal parts arrogance and stupidity.

If Jimmy's only out for 1 game, I'd be happy with Jules as backup for 1 game. On a short week, bringing in an outsider would be of little benefit anyway. It'll be a tough game Thursday, Defence will have to play big!

Would Edelman have got many (or any) reps prior to this week?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,833 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

would there be scope for example for the titans to trade cassell to the pats for say a 7th rounder

Then for the pats to trade cassel back for that same pick?

Surely the Titans would want to make something out of that trade to leave their player out of practise for that period and to risk an injury to him while playing for another club.

we have a QB on the PS who imo is better than Cassel but not a vet, im thinking of the Jrob connection but maybe they'd look for something even if its swopping 7th for 6th rounders

If it was an out of conference game then maybe. But if anything happens Brissett, then you're handing the game to an AFC playoff rival and giving them H2H advantage too. Having seen this team piss away home field advantage last year, I'd be furious if Brissett got injured and we had no capable QB to step in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,053 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Brisset has to say healthy for two weeks. We have the GOAT back then so I'm not worried at all. There is no need to bring in a backup, if they do you can be sure he is going to be cut in two weeks.

Who here was expecting us to be 2-0 at this stage? We are ahead this season already. If we get one win from the next two it's been a great start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,618 ✭✭✭Shedite27

Play Brissett for 2 weeks, the practice squad QB as backup. Even if we get the GOAT back at 2-2, happy days. We'd have taken that at the start of season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,053 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

We don't have a QB on the practice squad.

Who could you bring in that would know the offense better than Edelman in 3 days? Where does arrogance fit in to the decision? It may be stupidity not to have a QB on the practice squad alright.

Jimmy will be on the bench as back up QB in case Brisset goes down. You can play through an AC joint sprain, though it would suck.
