I think it's the new mentality of the TV folk.

Sky has been saying bad is good for 20 years now, and now rte are saying it.

Can't criticise a hyped up product that brings in major money all round.

Admit it, it's ****. You saying there hasn't been entertaining games in the rain before? Come on.

There have been but generally it doesn't happen and rain like this ruins a game in Croke Park above all our grounds because the surface is very hard underneath and the rain settle on top of it a creates a very slippy surface.

This has happened over and over in Croke Park when it rains like this and it is a large factor. The players can't keep their feet on the surface which makes it very difficult to play well if you are not properly balanced on the field.

It's unbelievable that Mayo aren't getting a 2nd man in around O' Shea for the high balls they are playing in. Ball is bound to break in these conditions.

He was put off - correctly- for a black card offence. Then the ref, like every other ref, makes an utter sh1te of it all by allowing at least 3 other similar offences to go unpunished within the next 10 minutes- right in front of him.

I think the main point about the black card is that it absolutely impossible to administer it with any consistency and for this alone it should be abandoned.

Did the fellow in the window behind Brolly just give the finger?

It was the most entertaining thing in the coverage so far.

Another game and Connolly gets away with a dirty tackle. He's a scourge on the Dublin name

Keegan is pulling , dragging and holding Connolly off the ball. Connolly gets a free /dead ball situation, which Keegan can nothing about, and puts in a fantastic pass which leads to the goal.

What players get away with against Connolly, off the ball, is the real disgrace !

Its like a skating rink. The players are struggling to stay on their feet.

I walked on the pitch there a few weeks ago, in trainers it was slippy when dry. I wonder does it have anything to do with the fact that part of the pitch is artificial.

But we all saw the fouls that should have been black cards, they should have been given but once again the ref takes an easier option and ignores them.

Jim McGuinness - didn't see enough different from Mayo, but they did manage to ruffle Dublin

Jim McGuinness' opinion is worth very little to me. If he was chocolate he'd ate himself

Lane should never have been made ref for this, not at this level. He'll make himself the story. McCarthys black card was just COC doing his usual blaggarding.

There seems to be such a mental fragility to Mayo. They could play 10 men and still find a way to lose.
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result......

It is not the refs fault Mayo are losing this think of another excuse

Well, whatever about quality, at least this final will be remembered. Already so many talking points, weirdness, etc. In 50 years time it'll be a table quiz question 'what team lead twice without scoring in an All Ireland '

By the way, do you agree with third man tackles and taking players out, off the ball? It would actually be a bit easier to referee if it was allowed.

2 problems - first, like you said, McCarthy's been black carded when 3 or 4 incidents have been let go. 2nd, Cillian O Connor also lead in with his shoulder, the difference is Cillian jumped on the ground and James stayed on his feet, so James was penalised.

I don't want to see 3rd man tackles but it's difficult, and Cillian played the ref/linesman a wee bit imo.

When your full back line continues to give away goals by bad defending in several finals, it's not bizarre, it's predictable. It's happened mayo against Kerry twice and Donegal in recent years and again today.
Paddy Andrews on is a huge plus for Dublin Ref did them a favour

right, a score at 7/1. Come on Mayo

Yeah but fairness it would have been difficult for the ref to see the first hand trip by McAuley.

I think the main point about the black card is that it absolutely impossible to administer it with any consistency and for this alone it should be abandoned.

Spot on. It's the complete inconsistency of the application that makes a total nonsense of it. It doesn't even punish the real cynical play at the end of games when teams are defending leads.

Referees don't want to put a player who trains all year off for technical infringements that were previously yellow cards in the first 20 mins of games. But the black card rules affect their judgement.

They feel its enough to give one to appease assessors and play by ear on the rest which makes a complete joke of the system.
