As much as I respect everyone's opinion here, have to say I understand NewApproach post. Calling Claudio Bravo a clown after a tough first game with a whole new (players & staff, way of playing, team balance, etc...) City team that still has to find its pace is a bit of a knee-jerk reaction.

Don't forget Guardiola's teams are generally CS whores and Claudio Bravo beat the "invincibility record" (don't know how you call it in english, I mean the most minutes without conceding a goal) in La Liga, which, even with Barcelona defense upfront is not an easy thing when you consider the amount of goals in La Liga. 754 min i.e. 8 CS in a row.

Anyway, it may still be too early to have or keep a City def but it feels to me exactly like Chelsea a couple of seasons ago (when Mourinho came back IIRC). We were all crazy about Ivanovic or Terry early on. Got disappointed by their first 4-5 GWs. Then they had a great run before and during Christmas, Terry & Azpi becoming essential for their CS & respectively goals and assists contributions. I'd be surprised if Guardiola's City doesn't turn out to be a must-have defense asset in a couple of weeks.

It doesn't really matter if you rate him or think he's a clown, Martin Tyler made a good point during the match that other teams will have seen that pressing City high up the pitch will put Bravo under pressure and maybe force a mistake out of him. This could work in Citys favour long term as it will give them more space to attack but it will also mean they'll concede more goals too which is probably all that matters with regards to FPL.

Admittedly but it was Mourinho's United and Zlatan volleying it in. And they both may be 2 persons I'm really not a fan of (too much ego kills it for me) but I can't and don't deny their talent. Also pressuring high a Guardiola's team... Well maybe I underestimate a lot the EPL but it is one thing to have seen what to do, it's a complete different one to actually do it. So, outside Chelsea and maybe Spurs, I'm not sure many other teams will be able to put City under pressure.

Liverpool also. I think they'll be ok at home but can't see them keeping many clean sheets on their travels.

Just checked some stats on Guardiola's defensive record in the league, goals conceded per game:

    Career: 0.66
    Barca: 0.72
    Bayern: 0.57

This compares to the best team in the prem in the last 5 seasons:

    Average: 0.83
    11/12: 0.76
    12/13: 0.89
    13/14: 0.71
    14/15: 0.84
    15/16: 0.92

Obviously it's difficult to compare across leagues, but you'd have to fancy City to rack up a serious amount of clean sheets this year.

Slight chance of Kane being benched after the mid week CL game imo

Dont get me wrong, I'm not strongly arguing either side. My issue is more with somebody jumping down the throat of someone offering an opinion.

The OP in this debate expressed an opinion. Not an outlandish one but certainly one open to debate. Demand it be 'substantiated' or 'LOLing' at people who you don't agree with is not really what this forum is about.

A considered reply like yours above makes some very good points.

City may well keep a good few clean sheets in timw, but they do have a habit od conceding silly goals while winning games, don't have a settled back 4 and have a new keeper who looks like needing some time to settle.

My own view is that at this moment in time there are better value 5.0 options at present who will get similar clean sheets but with more attacking and bonus points than Stones.

You're right about Klopp's Liverpool. Not as pessimistic than you about their away CS record once they'll be settled at the back.

Did not see the 'LOLing' part and guess did not get the real sense of 'substantiate' (thought it meant something like "care to develop/explain?").

Anyway, ya all be raging when Stones comes with a brace and CS next week-end :pac: =>.

One of Sanchez and Hazard has to go, which is the must have short term and longterm?

if you're talking season keeper i'd say keep Hazard. shorter term i fancy Sanchez to do better. Arsenal's fixtures are better

Just snapped up Benteke! I mean come on, I know he flopped at Liverpool but 4.5m is far too cheap for someone of his quality, I presume he'll rise in price after scoring at the weekend, so I had to do it early in spite of the midweek European action and potential injuries.

    That's Jonathan, not Christian, Benteke.

    I sure hope so
    Or not
    Either way it's funny :D
And ya know what the way it's going young benteke will probably outscore his brother this weekend now

That's what I was thinking too, was thinking about sacrificing Hazard now, with a view towards bringing Hazard back for Sanchez when their respective fixtures turn.

Stones has scored one PL goal in his career, I believe. He's also unlikely to get bonus with Man City scoring multiple goals. I think Williams and PVA are better picks at the same price, and ManU fullbacks for 0.6m more

Think I'll change my opinion on PVA being a better pick than Stones.....
Kone and Djilbodji off to the ACON in Jan as well, although I doubt JOS and Denayer could have done any worse of a marking job today

I'd rather have Hazard short and long. Pens in his locker for a team with no European football and 0.8m cheaper

If someone wants to make some outrageous comment like that they can feel free but should be prepared to back it up.

Either taking a -20 or wildcarding or accepting that last week was an anomaly

Can we assume that players like Kyle Walker (Trippier), Vertonghen (Wimmer), Rose (Davies) are all at high-risk of rotation with the Champs League underway? I'm worrying a lot about Walker and can't justify paying the extra for Alderweireld etc with the rotation risk.

I'd say vert is safe . Regret not getting him in wildcard like I planned. Walker and rose are very risky picks now.

Already brought Iheanacho in for Grey for the short term, tempted to bring in Kane for Vardy for -4, any thoughts?

I think so, I'd expect Trippier and Davies to come in at the weekend.

At least they are at home tomorrow and they aren't playing till Sunday in the pl. I'm targeting this match as a one week punt on one of their attacking players but who will start? Have a feeling that Son will be on the bench tomorrow and start Sunday, would be a big gamble though.

Wouldn't do it for a -4 when he's at home to Burnley.
That being said they are in Belgium tomorrow for a cl game and playing Saturday so the tinkerman could tinker with the team.

Yes lads, twas a bit of satire on my behalf thankfully, can you imagine I really did do it! Oh dear! Though when I heard someone say Benteke was replaced by his brother I was thinking WTF is that all about, I'd never heard of the guy, someone might fall into the trap!
