Well, I've been following this thread since the beginning and unfortunately it looks like the kick up the arse we were hoping Irish publicans would get regarding pricing and choice aren't ever going to happen. It basically seems Spoons will only expand when the arse falls out of the property market, so we can look forward to some new pubs every 15 years or so.

An update on Camden Street: they've been granted an extension to the time period for revising their plans. Instead of the application expiring in mid-September they now have until late November. That they applied for an extension shows that it is still a live project, though it's still by no means certain that they'll get permission.

No planning application has been submitted for Abbey Street yet.

And they're pushing the prices up all the time, unless your drinking cask there is no real value, speaking from a Cork perspective, €3.75 for a Beamish and €3.95 for a Fosters is easily matched or bettered, even in the City Centre.

There's even places in Dublin that sells 3 pints of Beamish for around the €10 mark, never mind Cork.

There was an interview with Tim Martin in The Irish Times at the weekend. He's hopeful that planning for Camden Street will go through early next year but there's a year of renovation work to be done so opening will be early 2018 at the earliest.

Abbey Street is still "on the go" but there are no further details. However, I can see that permission has been applied for: reference 3660/16. The drawings should be online in the next few days.

New beer advertised in Derry so guessing you'll get it too. Treason IPA, 330ml can, brewed by Uprising Brewing (craft offshoot of Windsor and Eton Brewery). £1.99 a can. Will give it a go next time I'm in.

Some of them are also getting below in, 9.1% double IPA. I'd be surprised to see them in Dublin

Both Six Point Resin and Treason West coast IPA are available in Blanch. As well as Flying Dog Snakedog, Brewdog Punk IPA and one or two others. All welcome additions.
Tried Treason West coast IPA Yesterday, very nice.
Jaipur seems to be a regular on cask aswell, though I do remember it being a tad nicer when I had it a year or two ago. Still a tasty sup.

    How much is Resin?

Jaipur at €3.10 a pint is worth it!

Was better at €2.75 imo :-)

I can't remember exactly but it was either €3.75 or €4.25. Treason was €3.25. Cask now gone up to €2.95 (not sure what Jaipur is now, maybe that went up aswell).

They seem to be advertising the beer available for take away aswell. And an odd new food item on the food menu too.

They have the Beoir logo beside the cask section of the menu now, though I don't believe I've ever seen an Irish cask beer on. It's almost like they've done a ctrl + f for camra and ctrl + v with Beoir.

This is taking a seriously long time.

Cheers. The Jaipur was €3.10 last week, but has been that for a while. The rest was €2.75. Odd that they're going up when sterling has dropped so much.

They also have the Cask Marque logo on all their menus, which doesn't operate outside the UK (and each pub individually has to be inspected).

Pretty much. As long as they have independent Irish beer -- and they always do -- they're within Beoir's remit and A Good Thing™.

Can't believe Cask Marque hasn't had a word yet, though. Last I heard CM wanted some Irish brewers to run a local franchise but I don't think it materialised.

Was in the Great Wood this evening. New menus and not a Cask Marque or Beoir logo to be seen.

I'm fairly sure I saw a Beoir logo on the menu but it's exclusively reserved to the cask section.

yeah its on the menue, not really exclusive to cask as Irish cask is fairly rare. But the great woods has one of the best selection of Irish craft beer in the area

I've never known a pub not to. Mind you, they would probably see them to you at pub rates if they didn't have an off licence but many's the time in many a pub I got off sales. Don't see why they would be any different....... Or why you would have to talk nicely to the barman

Because they're run more like a supermarket or fast food outlet than a normal pub. If it's not in the procedures manual, staff aren't allowed do it.

Wetherspoons is a kip of a place, no matter what town or city its in.

We have 2 of them in Derry, and I prefer to pay twice as much and drink in a decent pub with decent atmosphere and clientele.

The 2 in Derry were, until very recently, the only places with a decent beer selection. Clientele aren't great but it doesn't bother me at all. It's a lot more than twice as much to drink elsewhere too.

As TheBeerNut says though, if it's not procedure it's generally not allowed. Hence if a cask runs out just as you get a 2/3rds of a pint pulled you can't have that for the price of a half and they'll throw the 2/3rds away. They're also sticklers for making sure to open cans/bottles when serving to stop you taking them away (although that's the law up here).

€5.20 for a bottle of Tyskie is a bit much.

The lads in Blackrock will happily leave a can closed for you for the Dart journey home if you ask nicely ;)

Its a while since I've looked at the intoxicating liquor act, but I'm pretty sure an on licence automatically entitles you to sell off licence (obviously does not apply to NI)

It does, but there are reasons why JDW woudn't want to get into the business of selling takeaway cans.

This.... The first time I requested unopened cans ( Sixpoint beers ) was in blackrock, staff were reluctant , but once I explained I lived about 50 miles away and I wasn't drinking as I was driving home they were ok with it. I paid pub price , didn't even entertain the idea of an off licence price, I was just happy to be able to walk out with my beers.... :D
