It does, but there are reasons why JDW woudn't want to get into the business of selling takeaway cans.

Why is that? Or are you talking about up north?
Blanch JDW has specifically started to advertise as a bottle shop - all craft beers/ciders are available as take away.
It's on the menu screenshot. Noticed it the last day also.

Just thinking that since a number of products, especially the cans, are unique to them, they could be liable if there was littering nearby. Good to hear takeaway has been added to the procedures manual though :)

Are prices the same in the bottle shop or are they operating it as a separate offie?
I'm in Wetherspoon wilderness but it would nearly be worth going to stock up if the takeaway prices were cheaper.

They are the same as the pub price

Speaking from a council perspective, they'd never get done for that and it'd be unlikely that any council litter warden would be likely to know of the uniqueness of the cans anyway.

but I'm pretty sure an on licence automatically entitles you to sell off licence

It does - there are actually at least two off-licences in Dublin City which are trading from former pub premises, using the pub's on-licence without ever having converted.

The lads in Blackrock will happily leave a can closed for you for the Dart journey home if you ask nicely ;)

Depends on who you get. First time I asked I was told it was illegal. When I pointed out that it's not illegal before 10pm, he switched to the "it's company policy" line. So I waited till I was going to the bar again, was served by someone else, and they didn't seem to be aware of "company policy". :)

It's one thing about Wetherspoons in Ireland as a whole tho: absolutely everything is inconsistent. Most of it seems to be down to staff training, or lack thereof.

Once you convert the licence you can never go back. I don't know why anyone would convert...

When moving licence it's hell of a lot easier to get permission for an off-licence than a "I promise I'll never do on-sales, honest" pub. The two I'm aware of haven't moved though.

    Further information requested yesterday.

I wonder what they'll call it... the salty blaa maybe

Sorry haven't been on this thread for a while. Wetheys have been given a 3 month extension until November 2nd to submit reviewed plans for Waterford Arundal Square/Broad Street.

They're also sticklers for making sure to open cans/bottles when serving to stop you taking them away (although that's the law up here).

I take it all back. Went in last night and they are now advertising on their menus that you can get the craft beers to takeaway. Handy for me as it means I can grab a nice can for sneaking into the Brandywell now. :D

Had the Treason IPA, lovely aroma but the flavour let it down, wasn't a lot going on. It's priced at £1.99 and they've upped the price of Punk IPA to £2.29 but I'd still favour Punk. Flying Dog IPA also available, didn't taste very fresh though, hops were very muted.

Cans of Sixpoint Resin(£2.99) were there too but at 9.1% it was a bit much for a school night. Will try those next weekend.

The Bottleshop section of the Menu has been on the menu's in the rest of the England, Scotland and Wales since earlier this summer so I'm not surprised it's crossed the Irish Sea now. If they could introduce Growlers or Crowlers now that would be awesome.

IS anywhere in Ireland doing Crowlers yet?

That Resin is a bold boy.

Real ale festival with British hops beers is going ok. Birrificio Foglie D'Erba's Italian Porter has been the standout so far.

Finally got the manager of my local spoons to promise to order in more casks of Jaipur as well. :D

I liked the Old Crafty Hen. And surprised myself in doing so. :D

The company has submitted all the further information and redrawn plans that were requested for the Camden Street application, btw. I'm guessing the thumbs up or down will be in the next few weeks.

    Ok so what's a Crowler ;-)

If you want to ramp things up they will fill a polypin if you bring one in....!

I'm presuming it's a canning device so you get a can of draught instead of a bottle.

Haven't seen anyone doing it. They were doing it at the Indy Man Beer Con in Manchester this year.

Permission granted for Camden Street. It should be open late next year, if the company doesn't tank in the meantime.

Abbey Street has been asked for revised plans but the Council seems less concerned about the details of it than they were about Camden Street.

Spoons in Derry have both been sold to a local bar group that own a terrible hipster bar where all the staff wear peak caps and the place is decorated with old furniture and antique junk. They have a deal with C&C so don't sell any craft beer at all either. I can only hope they have another place lined up in Derry but we've not got a lot of vacant places so I don't know if that's likely. :(

There is but they don't do 1.65 pints of cask.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 12,054 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

It's almost as if 1.65 pints of cask are unsustainable.
