Is that Andy Lee? On the newsround?

    What gives?

I agree with the above about Kevin Kilbane. He's way too nice to replace Woolly, if that is who he was directly brought in to replace. When they are looking through the CVs of ex sports stars, they should have been looking from the prospective broadcasters previous managers. If there are any of their previous managers who ARE prepared to give them a favourable reference, then they are not suitable as a replacement for Woolly.

OTB need to understand that they are not looking for somebody who you want to marry your sister, you're looking for the guy you would never let anywhere near your sister.

Wooly was awful, he was acting stupid all the time. And newstalk were delighted because loads of people used to text in, like for example when woolly was getting a new dog at the start of this summer. Who gives a sht!!!

I'm glad hes gone, he hasnt a clue about anything but gaa. And all he did is moan about the leinster championship.

Kilbane is too nice??? Well at least he knows more about sport than wooly. And its a Sports Show! Not a show about wooly visiting a pet store.

And I don't know what it is about Kenny Cunningham but I just cant warm to him at all. He always comes across as "superior", as if he's a complete authority on everything. He's extremely aggressive in the way that he speaks, barking down at the presenters, and occasionally belittling them when they offer their own opinions.

Have you ever read any of your own posts???
Kenny is not like that at all. You are going way over the top.

Enjoyable show tonight. Adrian Barry is a good interviewer, leads his guests along and doesn't interview himself like Gilroy tends to. He also avoids giving his political tuppence at every opportunity.

Delighted for Annalise Murphy - she seems like a lovely person.

Andy Lee and Stu Byrne enjoyable as always.

Was it Brady that was on a few months ago and gave one of the worst interviews of all time. On as a panellist about doping or something and just flat out refused to accept Performance enhancing drugs could in any way improve a gaa player. Or have I that completely wrong?

Can't agree with this. He was the light hearted contrast to other presenters seriousness.

Also he often brought that simplistic viewpoint that lots of listeners would have regarding their own favourite teams and the way he used rise himself up as he spoke was funny.
He didn't profess to be an expert on anything (not even GAA).

It is a sports show but doesn't need to be all serious. We get enough of that across several other offerings where you wouldn't know are they discussing Brexit, housing shortages or the Arsenals transfer strategy.

I thought Kenny comes across very well on radio. Gives his opinion, not afraid to upset anyone plus is insightful and knowledgeable.

Spot on re: Adrian Barry - it was refreshing to hear a different voice on the show tonight....I genuinely find it hard to tell the other lot apart as they drone on in their Newstalk accents (Ger, Joe & co.)

yep, him and someone else were guests during one of the weekend shows.

"sure drugs wouldn't help you kick points" was one of his arguments.... :pac:

Well, I'm obviously in the minority on that one. I'm actually quite surprised that he's so popular. So it's just me and Dunphy that dont like him then? :D

Agree on Andy Lee though. He's such a soft spoken, kind guy, you would never imagine that he's a boxer. None of that oul "I'll bate any f**ker in the world" nonsense that a lot of them go on with. He's always interesting to listen to.

Well thats the thing, he wasnt actually funny.

Maybe thats the difference between you and I. I want a sports show where we hear from people that know something about sport. Stewie, cunningham, Kilbane, Odriscoll, Thornley etc. Loads more... Annalise murphy was great the other night.
Let the presenters do the presenting. I just want to listen to a sports show. If I want funny, I will go listen to a comedian, not Wolberto.

But in fairness, when a gaa topic, interview or a live match was on, Wooly was decent at doing his presenting.

I think Kilbane could well turn out to be a good acquisition but he is still a work in progress. In his favour is that he enjoys huge respect from fans and fellow professionals and probably has a good book of contacts.

On the negative side he is still a little too excitable and inarticulate in his questioning of contributors. His questions and contributions tend to be a little repetitive and rambling but this should become more polished with experience.

Prefer Richie to the other presenters as well.

    He strikes a nice balance.

Listening to Richie yesterday and it struck me that he's now my favourite presenter on the show. Good personailty, never fells forced or condescending. Obviously, he knows he stuff about sport but never forces his knowledge into the conversation, prefers to engage the guests and let them do the talking. Ger kinda annoys me in this aspect, loves the sound of his own voice a bit too much.

I never thought I'd be saying this but much as I like Kevin Kilbane as a person I'm not sure he's an improvement on the sometimes annoyingly cynical journalist co-presenters who've featured on OTB football show over the past year or so (Dan 'necessarily' McDonnell or whatever his name is). Kevin conspires to be precisely what you'd think a show that frequently speculates with absolutely no basis in knowledge on all manner of things from players motivation/the impact of managers on the team would need. However when speaking about the recently departed Robbie Keane his analysis was you always relied on Robbie to pop up with the important goals and he was good to be around in the squad. Now perhaps he was conscious of saying something he shouldn't given he isn't out of the Irish setup that long but I'm not entirely sure that's the case. If we were expecting insight and expert analysis from his playing days unless I've missed it I'm don't think he's provided any so far.

I am reminded of the pasting that John Giles frequently gets on here for not knowing the players/repeating the same mantra endlessly but he's been out of the dressing room for 30/40 years and yet sometimes depending on who's asking the questions he can still be interesting. Not sure if we'll be saying the same about Kevin Kilbane 20/30 years from now. I did enjoy the more illuminating Stephen Hunt chats they've had on the show - always found him to give a good insight, ditto the sometimes too serious Kenny Cunningham (if more on the tactical side). Be interested to hear what other people think of him so far....

A few weeks ago someone on OTB put that line about Robbie being a good guy to have around the squad to Brian Kerr and he demurred, saying he was if he was playing and scoring goals but otherwise not particularly. You're always looking for an analyst to go against conventional wisdom like that IMO...

If they got Brian Kerr to join, OTB would instantly become must-listen radio again.

Kevin is new to OTB, not to the whole punditry thing though but what exactly do you want him to be? Anytime I listen he draws on his own experiences from playing which isn't something OTB have because they are journalists and presenters, so that adds an extra dimension in my eyes.

I found Hunt to be trying to be controversial, most of the time he was good humour but then he'd get serious about something, make a point on something without any basis and then find himself backing down a few minutes later when hes challenged on it, which is exactly what Wooly was, but he took it in good spirit and made a joke of it, found Hunt getting upset and angry then, maybe if he was more regular he would relax into it.

Yeah, but he's not that insightful or articulate. I think Daniel McDonnell has got a raw deal here. He was very much part of keeping the show together when the others left. Did a good job on the football show for 3 years and was then unceremoniously dumped. He should of been kept on. Kilbane is more suited to a weekly slot.

I get the feeling that OTB want us all to start calling Kilbane "Killer".

I think, as I mentioned already, I want him to provide an insight that the current OTB crew simply don't (and given their background will never) have. I listen to the frequently superficial analysis given by ex-pros who, as far as I can tell, may have experienced the game and played at the highest level, but never actually thought about it either while they were playing or after they were finished.

I previously heard Kilbane as a contributor to the BBC 5 live football show and he was likable, fine and one of the more sensible talking heads but this is a different format for him and I am sure he will develop. However as someone else said if Brian Kerr was on the show regularly I wouldn't drift in and out, it would make essential listening (even if he might do me bleedin' nut in occasionally....)
