From 0100 to after 0300 you have 1500 men, 800 women, 5 k men, 4x4 women and men and then the men's marathon.

I'm genuinely not a fan of his, he really gets on my nerves altogether, and if I'm honest, I'm not sure I believe he is as squeaky clean as he would have one believe.

He's clean. At least as possible. I believe in him.

Lads am I missing something about the supposed enormity of the soccer? It's only the Olympics, a nothing under 23 tournament in an unloved Rio games and the full stadium is going wild. Players hugging, people crying. I could safely say if Ireland won this competiton there wouldn't be as big a celebration. Regardless of 7-0, I think this is bananas.

I remember hearing a report from Rio the day after the last Olympics ended and it said the only thing people cared about was losing the football final to Mexico.

If he wasn't clean he would surely have been caught by now? I watch all athletics assuming they are all clean . Maybe just like Bolt , he is that good

Look I believe very much in innocent until proven guilty when it comes to athlethes and their performance, so let the record reflect that to date Farah has been shown to be clean.

That's not what I was talking about, as a person I find him incredibly false, I thoroughly dislike his stupid hands over the head gesture, and his always using his family for publicity, I just don't like the guy.

If he fell over and collapsed in the winning strait I'd probably applaud, I just don't like how he comes across as a person at all.

I like him. Quite a happy go lucky chap.

Anyway, most importantly. Any chance Brendan Foster has contracted Laryngitis?

Apologies. I interpreted your post wrong. I don't mind putting it on the record that I don't really believe in him in any way at all, just can't find the faith others can in these situations but maybe that's my loss at the end of the day.

I also have faith in someone who shouldn't even be making Olympics, never mind finals. Lagat.

Actually it might be the Brendan Foster love for Mo that has tainted me :)

No worries, it's one of those weird things where I have never really liked him :)

I'm pretty sure this is the first Games where we've medalled in two sports which are not either athletics or boxing.

Love that we won in the water sports! Basically started watching the Olympics because of Annalise but was gradually enticed into watching so many more of
the events, not just the Irish ones! So many new stars have emerged. Gary and Paul O'Donovan's win raised the hearts of the nation and their lives will never be the same again.

Just saw something on FB which, I must admit, really annoyed me - an article saying that Olympics 2016 will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. As far as I am concerned, that is most definitely not true!! We saw the best sportspeople on the planet giving their ultimate in their performances. They are absolute heroes. I am not just talking about the medal winners. So many amazing participants on the Irish team alone. Will never forget Thomas Barr's race or those fantastic people doing the pentathlon!

On team GB, Nick Skelton winning his first gold medal at the age of fifty eight, in spite of having broken his neck some years ago. It was really moving to watch that man with tears in his eyes as he stood on the podium listening to his country's national anthem being played. Saw Liam Heath winning his gold in the kayaking. Must say, I really love the water activities! Puerto Rico winning their first gold, as well as Fiji - I know there were others, but those are the two I can remember seeing.

For anyone to think that that old goat Hickey has spoiled the Olympics, I say 'cop on'!! Mind you, it will be hard to erase that image of him appearing at his bedroom door in the nip!!

Without doubt, though, the standout moment for me was Annalise winning her silver medal. :):) I thought it was the measure of the girl when she sent the message to Thomas Barr after he came fourth, telling him she knew how it felt but that it would motivate him for 2020.

Just feel sorry for Michael Conlan and Katie Taylor as Rio was a nightmare for them. Can only imagine how Katie must have felt when Nicola Adams won her second gold in boxing for GB.

I love Michael Johnson on the BBC Athletics presentation.

He calls out British Athletes who haven't delivered, unlike the others who ignore the facts and try to make excuses for their underperformances.

He even took the loss of his 400 metres World Record in good grace.

It's their national sport and the only one they're genuinely interested in. They'd much rather win the gold here than in the men's 100m.

Michael Johnson is the epitome of a good athlete turned pundit for me, he is superb.

I agree - he oozes class and knowledge, but that Denise Lewis tears the arse out of it, she can gush to a painful degree.

Annalise's silver was definitely the high point. I don't think I've ever seen an Irish medalist look as happy as she did, the four years of hurt after London meant it was a huge release for her.....she was beyond overjoyed.

Mick Conlan was robbed clearly and I'm beginning to think Katie was too. I read today that she outscored her opponent by 14 punches in a fight she supposedly "lost".

It will take a seriously special run from someone tonight to beat the track performance of these games. Nie Kerk's 400 record is D performance on the track.

Yeah, that run hasn't had nearly enough coverage.

Michael Johnson's epic World Record gone, in an Olympic Final, from Lane 8.

    Epic.

I'd be curious to see how Ireland's performance compares to countries of a similar size.

Does anyone know if there is a way to measure medal wins by population?

Also, was there a medal target announced for Team Ireland?

I'd argue it better than Rudisha's WR from London.
