I would say most likely racist

I doubt it, it's most likely the border between Not Cork and Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭edburg

    The unknown International border :D

Regarding the tester freebies I'd be wary, had a handful sent to me once and couple of them were horrid. 1 leather cleaner was a horror show inparticular, turned cream leather funny grey and some kind of detergent in it or something that reacted with Microfiber.

Gave the car a wash this evening. Very impressed with BH auto foam. Much better at lifting dirt off the car compared with 2D snow foam. I could visibly see brown streaks within the foam on the ground around the car. I never got this with my previous snow foam.

Thanks to all for suggesting. (I might try ODK snow foam next it's getting good reviews online)

I must try BH wheel cleaner next.

Could someone recommend a good leather cleaner?

My steering wheel is getting a bit shiny, so I'm looking for something to remove the oils etc from the leather, as opposed to a dressing.

    Thanks.

Wolfs Chemicals Insider interior APC. Think that's what it's called. Or any APC really diluted correctly.

AG leather cleaner is also very good I find. Follow the instructions on the bottle and you won't go wrong. A soft bristle brush is also good to have on hand for more dirty areas.

This is my experience too, a properly diluted APC will do it followed by a conditioning or AG leather clean I also found very good!

Personally I never condition afterwards. IMO basically makes the leather dirty again! I prefer the properly clean plain matt finish just cleaning leaves.

    That's what I'm looking for.

I have BH Surfex HD, I take it a pretty weak diluiton of this would be enough?

I saw that used on leather before and it striped all the lacquer off it. That was at 100% concentration though. Still, I would avoid.

I prefer the Matt too but generally if you don't condition the leather it will start to dry out and crack, especially with harsher APC's.

Actually from talking to Curran and a few other detailers in videos this is not a problem with heather from the last 30 years or so. Leather is sealed for life from the factory and will not dry out anymore and will need conditioning. The leather in my 166 for example has god knows how many miles on it, 17 years of abuse and I doubt it has ever been conditioned (or even cleaned before my ownership :eek:) and is not at all dried or cracked.

Ah yeah I think it's from the mid 90's on where leather got a Vinyl coating where conditioner keeps this well rather than penetrating down to the actual leather itself. For the most part though, barring newer rubbish leather like what you'd get in a modern BMW I've found conditioner always makes it a bit cushier than just cleaned.

I had an awful squeaking from the seat in my 335, I tried wd40 and lots of other stuff on the rails etc to no avail. I applied a leather cream to it and it stopped. The leather had dried out and when moving and rubbing it squeaked.

Decided to give the MER brand a go. Bought their shampoo. Tried it out, lovely smell, good suds from it too. What more can I say :pac:

What an utter moron! That surfer stuff shouldn't be near leather at 100% concentrate, it's super strong.

The Dr Leather stuff I find is excellent.

The manufacturing process of leather changed in the 90s, from a breathable material (if you spill water on it, it would absorb) to a almost totally non-breathable material (if you spill water, it will run off or sit on the surface). Therefore years ago, leather could absorb a conditioner, and indeed, leather needed to be treated or it would dry out and crack. Modern leather however, cant absorb the conditioner, so only really sits on the surface.

There are people who do both. Those who dont find that the conditioner acts as a dirt magnet as its not absorbed, and those that use it and feel it does benefit. No doubt it does help slight, especially if you have two surfaces rubbing and causing a slight squeak.

Modern leather suffers in different ways to old leather; from abrasion of people getting in and out of the car, and creases in the leather from sagging/stretching from repeated movement.

Mild APC can clean the leather, but as seen, it can cause issues with the leather, and if you want to be 100% certain of not doing damage, but a leather cleaner...whether you feel you'd like a conditioner also, is personal decision! ;)
