I'll have to call out and see some day.

I just in the door so I got 2 coats of blacklight on with at least an hour between coats and finished off with Collinite 845. Polished off a few heino along the way.

So over 10 hours of work and ran out of light so no pics I'm afraid but will get up tomorrow.

In the dark the pop off the paint is unreal and I've never seen that shine off it of course I have seen on other cars but delighted with the results and hope to keep it this way now

So started off with a full wash with apc and jet washed all the crap off and De tarred and then washed again then clayed the whole car including glass and then used the rotary with v32 and finished off with v38 final grade.

Done glass with rotary also using carpro glass polish then washed the whole car and dried with dry me crazy towel.
As said above polished and I still have the wheels to do but glad at what I got done.

So I got that detailing mag that linked a while ago just to cure my curiousity and a question cropped up for the Pro's in the house.

How many of your supplies are Professional versions of retail stock if any???

Koch chemie was company that raised thought where they train detailer's for there products so they can be officially be a user on the PVD circuit in UK, but noticed in one issue that they supply a more *enriched* product to there professionals than there retail gear. I have previously seen manufacturers saying for professionals to contact them regarding trade products before and just presumed it was trade discount sort of thing, less fancy bottles etc

** I say enriched as only word I think of for minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Enriched isnt a bad word, but 'more concentrated' is probably what you are looking for.
You'll find that most retail stuff, especially in the likes of Halfords, etc, are ready to use items. Powerful enough to do a job that it says it will do, but there will be far better options; but they are a no-brainer product. Generally you can use it without doing anything disastrous.
Then you'd have the products for the enthusiasts; which are can be diluted. So the user gets to decide that out of a 1l bottle, they need to make up a mix; take a concentrated wheel cleaner for example; initially they can mix it at 1:1 to get the heavy work done if their wheels need it, and then use the rest of the bottle at 1:5 for weekly maintenance washes. Its often something customers dont consider when they see the price of some products.
As for the professionals; some of it would be bottles with just a basic label and some would be a more concentrated version that the user uses at their own risk.

2 more Qs for the pros

Final product I used on the paint was Meguiars ultimate liquid wax
What do I need to do to maintain it?

    Glass
What product and what type of cloth ?

All you need to maintain the wax is washing with a Ph neutral shampoo (which the gold class shampoo and conditioner is).

It's amazing what a difference clean wheels makes to a car. I hadn't gotten a chance to clean mine is a number of weeks, and the EBC greenstuff pads I have are horrendous for brake dust, so they weren't looking great. But 20 minutes, with a wheel brush and a bucket and they were sparkling again.

I did that on Friday and then got around to giving the car a wash, and seal. Looks great now.

I do have an issue with rust though, which is starting to get noticeable. There's a spot, right below the boot lid, dead centre. I'd say it's about 1.5cm around that is bubbling through. Part of me is tempted to tackle it myself if I could get some reasonable paint and filler. But the other part of me is afraid I'd make a huge mess! The basic plan would be to cut out what ever rust is there, fill, sand, paint, sand and seal. Sounds easy...but...

You could try Bilt Hamber Deox Gel on the rust first as it may only be surface rust. Give it a paint afterwards and see how that turns out. If it's not up to satisfaction then start cutting.

Makes better sense the way you put it, the way I read mag was I was being cheated or something hahahahahaha

Used Bilthamber hydrate 80 myself on spots. Does the job of killing the rust and chemically sealing/replacing it. Also if there is spots out of direct site after paint spray some of there Dynax anti corrosion wax on area once it all clean. (used UC clear one to great effect under arches on OPC Astra)

I discovered this evening that BH Surfex HD is fantastic for cleaning the brown bin! Is there anything it can't do? :)

Would anyone here know when detailingshed would have tarX back in stock :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Well I know there has been an order placed a while back; but it takes time to arrive and then clear customs - better idea when it lands on Irish soil! :)

In the market for a new snow foam. Have been using 2D snow foam and found it good in terms of dwell time and thickness of foam etc. Anyway it seems the lads in DnD are either out of stock or not selling it any more. So decided to see what everyone else is using.

At present I'm considering the BH Auto Foam, I have other BH products and I'm happy with how they work and seem good value for money.

    As always open to suggestions.

BH Auto Faom is my current one and have no complaints with it.
Other one I was happy with was the Valet Pro PH neutal foam.

    VP was more clingy
I feel the BH cleans jut a bit better.

I've been using Gtechniq W4 Snofoam for a while now and find it brilliant. With the CLS/EXO it's all you need really in this weather as there's only dust and light dirt on the car.

Any snowfoam on a ceramic coating is going to do a good job!! ;)

Snowfoam is a catch 22; some have good cleaning power, but often have a gradual effect on your wax or sealant....wont have any affect on a ceramic coating.
Some people like shaving foam thick snowfoam....I prefer it so that its got some cling but that it also runs, maybe about 5 mins dwell time....though its nice to have longer if you want to get around all the nook and crannies with a detailing brush. But if you up the dilution ratio, the mix can be thickened.

    So its personal preference really.

Would I be right in saying that Halfords own wash and wax shampoo wouldn't do my freshly polished cars any good?

If so, anything else that can be picked up handy that compliments the work done on the paintwork?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Its not that it would do anything drastic, but if you apply a wax, you've chosen that wax based on the colour of your car, durability, the beading it offers or whatever. If you use a wash and wax type product, the waxy residue left by this product is now your top layer, the one reacting with the environment; so if you chose your protection for the great beading it offers, then its no longer going to bead like it should. Or if you chose it due to the fact it offers high surface tension (ceramic coating) and thus stays cleaner for longer, and easier to wash, youve changed the surface characteristics and thus it wont offer them anymore.
Thats not to say that it effects the coating - it will still be doing the job underneath, but some will assume that their wax, for example, was deteriorated with a matter of days, and then rate the product as rubbish; in reality the person has changed the surface.

Anyone here seen or used Nanoway Ireland Ceramic Products? They messaged me on Facebook earlier asking me to try out some of their products.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

They messaged me also, via the business page, offering a free sample, but not what they wanted to achieve by messaging me; if they wanted me to resell it, or thought that it would be a coating that I might offer customers, etc.

There is nothing anything more special about it than CarPro or Gtechniq by the sounds of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,875 ✭✭✭Foxhole Norman

Might get the free samples they're offering and see if it's any bit good!

Went for the BH auto foam. ODK snow foam is getting great reviews online, but for me BH seems better value. Now just waiting on Detailing Shed's speedy delivery service :) so I can wash before Friday.
