The river near me doesn't seem to spawn any water mons and on a hour long walk yesterday around a mid sized rural town I got 3 with 1 running away. 2 rats, a pigeon and a worm. Joke.
Going off the game completely in the last few days.
Ive caught maybe 20-25 different types, with a few of them being once offs and I've walked a 100k since I've downloaded the app and been in 6 different rural towns with populations of 2000-20000.
Also there's no incentive to go for a walk in the woods or out the country.

The Suir River quay in Waterford City is littered with water Pokemon. Guaranteed multiple Staryu, Goldeen, Magikarp. There's also a regular spot for Dratini.

I was in the states with work last week and caught a Tauros, my son excitedly informed me on my return today, that I managed to nab the US only Pokemon!

You can get Tauros from the 5km egg in Europe

Aye your chances aren't great though, you can get them all from eggs if you have the luck.

Well the game is meant to encourage exploration, if you could catch most mons fron your house or your desk then there wouldn't be any challenge or fun to it. I agree there needs to be more spawns in rural areas but I don't think it's unfair that you can catch lots of water pokemon along the quays when it makes perfect sense that that's where they'd be?

If it's meant to encourage exploration, it's executing it pretty poorly. You could explore half the island and find very little the way the game is at the minute.
I'm working in Smithfield, very close to the quays, but don't see the type nor frequency of Pokemon I saw yesterday. Presumably because Smithfield is that bit further from the city centre.
Where I'm living isn't rural, it's within Dublin, but there's pretty much nothing here. In the area, I don't mean while sitting on my couch. There's a park right beside the estate, with a lake, but there's very little there either, and none of the water Pokemon you'd expect unlike the quays in the city.
Increasing spawns in rural areas in line with what exists in populated areas would definitely make it fairer but I don't think reducing spawns in populated areas is necessarily needed. Lures are always going to be a good way to get pokemon because they make money for the devs

I don't think anyone suggested that.

    This tbh.
As someone else said, 'go to a densely populated area' seems to be more accurate.

I just read a comment that they can't be hatched.

They certainly could be hatched before the official release here, I got one in a 5k egg.

I said I totally agree that there should be more spawns in rural areas. I'm not sure why there isn't, maybe the spawns are linked to phone density or something?

Also I was in Smithfield only yesterday evening and there was loads of pokemon, caught a psyduck, jigglypuff and slowbro within 15 mins in addition to usual drowzee etc. And the quays are only a 3 min walk away from there, go for a walk around the area on your lunch break! :P

I've seen a few people hatch it in the UK, although whether it's changed post official launch or the latest update I don't know.

Does anyone know if it was Tauros only or were the other two region specifics available through eggs?

Caught a cp 1075 Victreebel the other day when I was almost home on the bus, very unexpected! Broke out about 6 times. And right after that a cp ??? Vaporean appeared but he escaped on the 3rd catch. An emotional rollercoaster but happier with the Victreebel, haven't seen one either in the gyms at home or in town.

I also got a Taurus through an egg so definitely was possible at one stage.

Just caught an 800cp Gengar in Firhouse  Hadn't even seen any haunters until now, let alone a Gengar :D Delighted!

Squirtel is a slippery little bast**d. I have hatched him once, but all the wild ones escape as soon as they jump out of the balls. Little feckers.

Have enough Duduos and goldeens to evolve. Yay

Where are all the ground-types at? I've caught a single Rhyhorn and Cubone so far, and that's it! I've also not found any geodudes, onyx or machops - where's Dublin's Mt Moon? :P

Dollymount? I've caught Rhyhorn and Cubone there, saw Geodude (I think) and Machop on nearby. There is Sandshrew too. Plenty of Cubone at the pond in St. Annes right beside Dollymount too, it's probably a Cubone nest at the moment. Onix I've only seen a shadow of, once, between Tara Street station and Trinity.

It's not a complete Mt Moon though, there's no Clefairy's.

To the northside so! I've seen clefairy at a few spots on the southside, the little mini-parks around walkinstown, perrystown and kimmage have clefairys and jigglypuffs :)

Ooh I've never seen a Rhyhorn. Where'd you get that?
I only found Cubone the other day, in Stephen's Green, and it was a rather pathetic CP 10. :( I've never seen Sandshrew either, which is a shame 'cause Sandslash is a little beast!!

Had a Machoke at the top of my nearby list last night but he never spawned :( Only ever had Machop and that was from a 5km egg

Plenty of Cubones at St. Stehphen's Green. Caught enough Cubones to evolve into Marowak from there.

There used be loads of Machops in Marlay Park. It's mostly Voltorbs now, but I still caught a Machop there today.

Caught my Dugtrio, Onix and 2 Sandshrews at Bull Island a while ago. Seems to have a wide variety pokemon

Was out with my boyfriend tonight catching Pokémon, wasn't too far from the George when we heard a loud scream so we turned to see what was the matter.

Group of women, all at various stages of inebriation and one of them roars "another feckin Weedle!!"

    Great night haha

So I hatched a Schyter (sp?) from a 10k egg. It's first move only has a strength of 3. Is it possible to make its base move stronger?

It's attack is very fast though, compared to others.

    Where's the Dratini spot?

The back of Adelphi Quay by the Marina Hotel, usually in the afternoons. Been down there five times this week, Dratini there everyday.
