Fair play I didn't know that. It was not my main point through, which is even more reinforced by this. A few posts and research and it is now very clear to me it is part of Catholicism - no argument to be had (as opposed to impossible arguments about what is "real" Islam since there is not authoritative answer).

It's a common misconception to be fair.
Are you still a catholic then? Do you believe in transubstantiation?

Considering its one of the major beliefs of the Catholic Church, it would be interesting to see the result of a poll asking Catholics if they believe in transubstantiation.

    Why still?

    Ok

    (1) are you a catholic?
    (2) do you believe in transubstantiation? (supposedly happens in churches every day of the week)

In the Roman organisations's eyes, can they still be considered catholics if they do not believe in transubstantiation?

Well I don't even believe in God yet they still like to consider me a Catholic since my parents decided to give me the sacraments and they removed all avenues of leaving.

    Back to the subject matter..

Good to see the local Muslim community and Imams coming out in solidarity with the murdered Priest's local Catholic church.
Muslims in several parts of France and Italy attended Catholic masses yesterday, as a gesture of solidarity following the killing.

The rector of the Great Mosque of Paris, Dalil Boubakeur, who is also the president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith, attended a morning service in Notre-Dame cathedral in central Paris yesterday.

The Basilica of Saint-Denis, outside Paris, also gathered hundreds of Catholics but also a large number of Muslims and people of other confessions who showed up after religious authorities in France called on the population to express sympathy to the Catholic community.

Imams representing their Muslim communities also took part in mass in many Italian cities and towns including Rome's Santa Maria in Trastevere and Milan's Santa Maria in Caravaggio.

"Thank you to all those Italians of Islamic religion who direct their communities along the path of courage against fundamentalism," Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said on Twitter.

    No and no.

Interesting though that because someone uses the catholic church as an exemple of how subgroups of Islam could organise if they want to avoid being amalgamated with everyone who does something in the name of Islam, there is an automatic assumption that the person is catholic and that the next step is to question their faith. Mind you, I agree questioning catholics about it would probably be a very interesting exercise and would give good insights about catholic beliefs in Ireland, but it seems quite remote from the topic of this thread.

I've only anecdotal evidence for this, but quite a lot of Roman Catholics don't actually know what they're supposed to 'believe in'.
I have, on numerous occasions, found myself as an atheist explaining the strict rules and T's and C's of Catholicism to so called believers....and not just the older generation either.
Also, other atheists of my acquaintance seem to know more about Catholic dogma than its adherents.
Some older generation Catholics still believe in 'Limbo' for instance, despite what the Pope says......''What does he know?''
    Just a thought.

In my experience , atheists of the more militant variety tend to come from deeply religious families so it wouldn't surprise me if that was part of the reason for their familiarity with Christian or Catholic teachings . I see someone above talking about parents leaving them with avenues of leaving. If someone feels that weighted down they might as well have themself excommunicated.

Edit:Apparently, you can't defect from the church these days.

Me too, and yet I'm more concerned about getting off the mailing list of various companies that clutter up my gmail account than I am the baptismal register since they are far more annoying and take up far more of my time. Also, nobody in my local the diocese is calling for my death as an apostate, well, as far as I know.

Isn't frankincense lovely though? It's almost worth going to mass to get a good hit off the thurible because those cheap ass sticks you burn just aren't the same. Love the stuff!

Another priest stabbed in Belgium this time after inviting an asylum seeker in for a shower (first mistake) the asylum seeker demanded money and when the priest refused he was attacked and stabbed

How many more attacks before something drastic is done how many attacks have to happen before this is acknowledged as the huge problem it has become burying ones head in the sand only works for so long, not a single day for the las month has passed without an incident of murder rape or brutal assault involving asylum seekers in Europe

The shower probably wasn't Halal so that priest had it coming.

Absolutely , feel free to do your research and come back to me I'm sick of seeing the same bull**** posted here defending asylum seekers I don't post prefer to view as I couldn't be bothered getting into it with people who refuse to see what's right in front of them maybe if it was someone's daughter here who was raped they would see it differently

If I just had to pluck a few random cases from memory right now

Munich park - woman asks two drunk asylum seekers to please keep it down middle of the day attacked and raped by both in the middle of the park both caught and arrested response to police "we were having a bad day"

Syrian asylum teen hacks pregnant woman to death with machete not so long ago

Iraqi teen rapes 10 yr old boy in Germany his excuse "hasn't had sex in 4 months"

I frankly couldn't give two ****es if someone calls me a racist these people are not integrating in Europe and never will they seem hellbent on raping and murdering anyone who is of a different religion and has different views to them you only have to watch the news to see packs of young men roaming around causing havoc

We should lock them all up or deport them. Men I mean. They keep doing this and I for one don't trust a single one, not even myself.

You've literally invented a world within your own head where the only option you see is available is "they're all gon' kill and rape us and the only answer is to kick em all out forever".

In your first post I quoted you say you're sick of or don't want to argue with people who "can't see what's right in front of them."

Well what's in front of me is your frantic rant which is a big long stream of consciousness post decrying all of them asylum seekers as evil as if they all speak as one. This isn't a Saturday morning cartoon from the eighties. There's a major and genuine social problem to tackle. They're not a virulent species here to kill us all. Radicalisation is an issue. It's not going to be dealt with by pointing at entire populations and saying they're the issue.

And don't come back to me talking about the most recent victim as if you give one iota of a flying fück about them. You only care about using it to shoehorn in an agenda you can't even put into words properly. Now wipe the foam from your mouth.
