We're talking millions of refugees, and a few dozen radicalised potential terrorists.
You may very well succeed in keeping the millions out, that's actually relatively easy. Camps, barbed wire, ditches - that will indeed stop families with children and the elderly. Keeping the few people who are determined to do any harm they can out though is not going to be possible.
Only 2 of the attackers in recent weeks arrived as refugees, the rest had been either born in the country where they committed their attack or have lived there for decades before.

Instead of doing the people smugglers job for them, European navies can simply tow or return these would-be sailors to their shores of origin.

No harder than the status-quo of providing the free taxi they already do.

And how do you make the countries they came from accept them back? Most of them set sail from countries that are not their countries of birth, and have no papers.
