That said though, if it was firmware issues, everyone would be having the problem, you have to be willing to try some troubleshooting yourself. How are you so sure its not an app causing a problem?

I can completely understand why Vodafone would fight it, however. It's pretty clear your issue was software related, and nothing to do with the hardware in the phone.

It's a shame you didn't know someone who is a bit tech-savvy to figure out the issue, because there are multiple reasons why your battery could have been draining. I can understand why it would be frustrating with a device that cost that much.
I completely disagree. I deleted all the Vodafone and Microsoft free apps. Deleted most of my apps and examined the battery to find the wave lock issue described in this very thread.
After that and only after I was satisfied that there was an issue, I sent the phone back.
They, (Vodafone contracted fix company, fonua) , sent the phone back to me and the problem persisted. It was at this point I factory reset the device and wiped all personal data can conducted the following "tech savy" test:
Charged it to 100% ( 5pm) left it at work, powered on, and came in the following morning to check the battery status, which was at 64%. I didn't check it until nearly 10am, but still.
Maybe I didn't explain what I did correctly but I hardly think I should go to any more lengths to either diagnose or fix what is an obvious failing on this device.
Vodafone are just following procedure that I backed out of a contract and they get the phone back. My issue with Vodafone was more related to billing, telephone calls and time wasted by me to correct my bill.
Again, disappointed, coming from a z1 which served my very well for over 2.5 years, I was looking forward to the next jump in phones.

Yeah, I can understand the frustration when things just don't work as they're supposed to. The reality is a wakelock isn't a hardware fault, it's caused by software.

There are other things you could have easily done to isolate the problem, but it's not your problem any more :p

Sure, I understand that the wavelock issue is related to apps or an app. I have examined the battery life looking for the apps that were the offending ones, but found nothing unusual.
I factory reset the device and wiped all personal data , battery still drained.
Tell me exactly what the other things that I could have easily done to isolate the problem please? I genuinely want to know, as you say, if it's something that could easily be sorted it should be publicised on this fourm for everyone to see. Not all of us are programmers but I wouldn't call myself a technophobe either.
Thanks for help so far, I was following this thread carefully and I genuinely would love to get to the root cause of the issue

When you say you wiped personal data, did it have a google account on it? Was sync on? Location services? You tried in airplane mode?

Here's an example of one solution I saw:

No google acc, no sync, no location services after the factory reset
    Edit; never tried airplane mode

That's interesting. It would pretty much have to be a system process keeping it awake, or bad signal, which also kills the battery.

It would be hard to find one solution for everyone, because not everyone has the issue. It's really just a process of elimination for each individual user.

Bad signal I doubt as I had/have 4g at work and at home. Both places had 4g signal registering, however, when I was testing I removed the sim after I factory reset it.
Just using wifi but no google accounts, purely "out of the box" bloatware.

I currently have an iPhone 5s which is on its last legs, so I've decided to convert and get an S7. From looking through the thread t-dimension are a good place to get them, does anyone have any idea how often they update their stock? I'de like to get a white one and preferably a single sim model.

Send that case back, shouldn't be like that at all. Although it was the s7 flat mine was absolutely perfect.

Btw, does the Spigen that you have mess with your screen protector?

Yeah it did with the screen protector I had first. I'm using this one which is the best I've used fits the edge perfect. It was a little difficult to apply but it fits perfectly to the edges.

Can recommend Spigen enough. Have both these covers from them and they are great. One for everyday and one for outdoors / gym etc.

    +1

I have the second on the list. It's perfect. Offers some protection and is not at all bulky. I also like the direct access to the buttons too.

No, Don't think I got one with either. I'm not a fan of screen protectors.

Having had mobile phones for the last 20 years without breaking a screen, I managed to shatter the S7 edge screen by letting it fall while out walking.
It fell screen side down on the footpath and is in bits. I had a unicorn beetle case on it but it didn't save it (despite it having raised ends that are supposed to stop the screen from coming into contact with objects on flat surfaces.
Anyhow, I think I'll take it to the samsung service center in Dundrum (I got an iPad screen replaced before by iRepair and I wans't impressed by the repair quality).
Anyone know how much this will cost?
I'm convinced that the edge screen is easier to break than a flat one, my ideal phone is a flat S7 with a screen that's the same size as the S7 edge...

I think for my s7 not an edge I got a price of 250! Expect yours to be more.

So i'm finally going to pull the trigger and get an S7. T-Dimension have this ebay listing but i'm unsure if its dual or single sim? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-S7-G930F-Dual-LTE-32GB-White-gft-EN-DE-IT-ES-FR-Ship-fm-UK-X1048-/252316366344?hash=item3abf3a3608:g:q4QAAOSwu1VW4l50

The add says model G930F which is the single sim model, but it says dual LTE after? I messaged them about this but they haven't replied.
