Any particular reason why the park pilot decides not to work the odd time?

You must have spec'd the LUAS version?

on top of the dash I think, near the base of the windscreen, around the centre.

Correction. It's actually in the windscreen, part of the rear view mirror along with the rain sensor. So if you covered over it with a dark cloth as a test you'll probably find that your lights will come on and stay on.

I had it in my 132 GTI but it's not in my R. I initially assumed it was a cost cutting effort but yes, apparently it's actually due to several reported incidents where they came loose and damaged the rad fans!
The service guys might have broken a clip on your one? Not re-fitting it correctly after a service is probably the main reason they come loose.

I've gone over it with a tooth comb and there nothing broken or misplaced, and it was defo during the recent work that's loosened it, I'd say it had never been removed since it rolled off the factory floor. But from looking online it looks like its a little risky having it there in the first place. At a guess I'd say its slightly warped itself with heat maybe and is now a bit out of shape.

Also the wipers will go mental (thats if you use the auto wipers).

I put my hand over the sensor before which set off the wipers, I assume the computer is trying to remove the object from in front of the sensor.

I am closing in on my R. Reckon I will have it before the end of the month. Can anyone tell me if the dynamic chassis control is standard?

I have been looking for it as a build option on Volkswagen.ie and I don't see it. The one I am looking at doesn't have a specific reference to it on the spec. Unless I am totally blind. I will ask the dealer tomorrow.

Nope. It's an €1100 (approx) option.

That's what I was thinking but when I try and spec it on Volkswagen.ie it isn't an option there either.

    Is it worth it?

Forget the configurator. It's out of date and misleading. Full of inaccuracies. The product guide is a better bet but this is also now out of date - http://www.volkswagen.ie/content/medialib/vwd4/ie/pdf-downloads/product-guides/golf-gti-gtd-product-guide/_jcr_content/renditions/rendition.download_attachment.file/product-guide-golf-a6-gti---gtd_july.pdf

Is it worth it? I didn't spec it and see it as €1100 saved. Ride and suspension are absolutely fine without it imo. Those that have spec'd it will probably tell you it's worth it though.

Nice one. I imagine that 'normal' mode on the DCC is just fine for most. A nice extra alright but for just over 1k, I am not so sure. Wondering whether the use of ECO in traffic would save much and then also weighing it against the occasionally use of sport mode. Considering the power available anyway, it seems like a bit of a luxury. But I do like luxuries!

You are confusing DCC with the MODE (driver profile) button which is standard. This gives you Nornal/Eco/Race/Individual modes which gives you different settings for engine noise, throttle response, gearbox, etc, etc.

DCC then gives you extra setup menus within that Mode button for suspension setup.

Doesn't the R get the "Mode" button to adjust throttle response, noise etc as standard though? I seem to remember yourself and vintage causing VW Ireland heartache over it?

Exactly. I'm convinced we made them make it standard :pac:

Thanks for clearing that up for me. You are right. I was totally confused. I think that answers my question

I had nothing to do with that :)

I find DCC one of the best options I picked, it and dynaudio.

I don't use Eco or normal mode, I switch between comfort and race.

Comfort is excellent on bad roads, really gives a smooth ride.
Race is stiffer than normal, I'd class it similar to a car on uprated suspension, nice and controlled.

    All my fault then ;)

Oddly, for an option that was probably not commonly spec'd, Dynaudio is now standard (well, part of the gimmie tech pack).

Hmmm... tempting. I guess its what you are used to. You probably wouldn't go without it now. Whereas if you have been without it all along, you wouldn't know the difference. You obviously think it was worth the extra few quid though

Would people wait until october to order a new R for 2017 as thats supposedly the updated version of the golf release.

If it was ordered before one might be getting the 2016 existing spec one ?

There's still no official word on what or when - if any - facelift is happening.

All things point to a facelift/ mark 8 release towards the end of the year.
It's mentioned on most car websites and dealers are acknowledging it too. The vw dealer I dealt with told me it was happening.
I would wait until October if I was looking for 2017 anyway.
I presume the R will get the uprated 305 ps engine and 7 speed dsg same as Audi s3

Where's the test mules? The official spy shots? Nowhere. When a new "MK" is imminent it's usually well acknowledged in advance... The likes of Geneva / Frankfurt motorshows would have it on display... Months in advance of it coming on sale. As well as that, the GTI derivative usually doesn't follow until 6 months after and the R several months later again.

There might be a very mild blink and you'd miss it facelift but not a MK8 imo.

Autocar are reporting a facelift unveiled in October for 2017 release and the mk.8 released in 2018.

Most car websites are reporting some sort of facelift in October.
It may not be a mark 8 but there will be some changes no doubt but might just be things like led headlights, tft instruments screen minor engine changes etc. With a full mark 8 coming year or two later

Read the same in a different publication (might have been Auto express but I read way too many to be sure) . Mk 8 in 2018

There's very very few magazines / websites that I'd consider reliable for accurate news. Auto Express and it's clones are the equivalent of the Sun! Most Irish car "reviews" and news bites are little more than glorified press releases from the manufacturer. Guaranteed every car reviewed is a decent 8/10 no matter how average the car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Would agree with you re auto express and Irish car " reviews" in general.
Often wonder if Irish guys are afraid they won't be allowed test a car again if they say a model is no good.
Still though I think there will be some form of refresh soon.
However you are generally the most knowledgeable of us all on here when it comes to vw product. Do you reckon no changes at all later on in the year?

    Ha!
If I was to put my house on it I'd say there will be a very minor refresh. Stuff like you mentioned - LED lights, digital dash, maybe a slight bumper/grills redesign. If it was any more comprehensive than that we would have seen much more official info by now as I said.

Here is a new facelift Golf from AutoBild.

Should be in Ireland end of the year.

Yeah it'll likely be something like that - new lights and the digital dash in the Highline upwards.
