Ah look it is a tactic, it's a tactic that needs savage work rate to implement because these guys need to get back up the pitch from these defensive positions and to get scores but it's a tactic nonetheless. I know the story goes around that Kilkenny "don't do tactics" but I think any serious hurling follower knows this to be bull. They put as much into tactics as any other team.

But ya we are agreed on Joe alright, he's doing his best work this year further out the field where there's a bit more space so he can pick off points and deliver in quality ball. Now I still expect him to spend parts of the game at 14, and if he can get a quality ball or 2 while he's in there then the umpire will be reaching for the green flag but it's too easy when he's in there for 10 minutes to go by without a ball going near him and we just can't afford that.

No, Kilkenny go 15 on 15, man to man real hurling. No extra defenders or midfielders in Kilkenny, just hungry instinctual hurlers. If at times they have just a couple of lads left in the other half of the field that's just how the game developed. Under absolutely no circumstances is this some sort of planned system or tactic to close out a game.

Pretty poor trolling blue note, although it does appear that galwaylad took the bait :D

Not trolling to be honest, more just sarcastic. Unrealtime seems to believe that Kilkenny don't bring extra men back. He mustn't have watched last year's all Ireland final.

Yeah surprised at blue note tbh, the whole Kilkenny and tactics thing has been done to death at this stage.

Kilkenny are there for the taking this weekend, an unsettled full back line and an unproven forward line and bench. If Cody can get a winning performance, it will be some achievement

When KK PLAY 14 Back in their own half to counter Galways only possible scorer, then tactics will win out and the game will end scoreless, of course

From what I hear, he is not a "Cody" type player yet

    As in workrate?

Wouldn't say no surprises, Lester Ryan in the forwards is unusual. He's been solid enough so far this year though

    Is Shane Prendergast injured?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,747 ✭✭✭brookville

Lester played wing foward and corner foward against dublin and at the moment his probaly the best of the rest.shane prendergast is out with a hamstring injury.

Not putting as much in during training

I know its not nice to single out players but from what i heard its more attitude than hurling ability that his in and out of the panel.ive no doubt he has more to offer than a couple of lads on the panel but its obvious his not putting it into training.he'll have to learn from this and come back stronger

He did well when introduced V Clare in League semi-final. I thought he's push on from that as he obviously has the talent.

Wally has come on very well this year and it's hard to see us doing without him now - nearly first man down on the teamsheet nowadays.

Glad Lester is in also. Gives us a bit of defensive cover. In league games, as a forward, he chipped in with a few scores. Let's hope that continues tomorrow.

JJ will hopefully be on form in Croke Park and get an early score to settle the nerves.

Never really worried today. Galway hurled well in the first half but we left scores behind us and I knew we'd finish strong. We're just better than them and that was always going to tell in the end.

Credit to Joey as I've been critical of him this year but today he was solid as a rock.

Fogarty immense again and the difference maker when the game was there to be won. MOTM for me.

Richie back looking like Richie after a poor league is great to see.

And as someone who has slaughtered Jonjo as not being good enough for the last however many years I'm delighted to be wrong. His touch down the sideline under the Hogan Stand in the 2nd half was magic and his movement is a nightmare for a corner back.

Brilliant how this squad of players refuse to lie down.brillant second half by all.but Richie hogan was pure class.hes like Messi with a hurl.anyone see the bollocking he gave to tj for not putting him in.as I have said many times we're blessed as supporter's watching this team.

Great second half performance. Sitting in Applegreen now. Herrity was saying on the Marty Squad Show on the radio that block/hook count was double to the Cats - 34/17 (if true) which is always going to win any match.

Didn't hurl well in first half but never let Galway out of sight. Mannion was giving us a lot of trouble. We were in same position at half time as last year's All Ireland Final.

I thought Mick Fennelly roared into it in second half aided by Fogarty, Lester, and the half back line. In 2nd half, with Richie and John Power there, the scores came.

Richie was unreal, a real magician with s hurl and i was impressed with Power. He showed well and worked hard. I'd be critical of him on here at times but he was excellent today. He knew he couldn't get to a high ball in but he was aware of Richie around him and he just directed it to him with a nice flick. Richie popped it over. Great awareness by Power.

Defence never really looked liked conceding any goals and Lennon took a wild bat of the hurl to the head but recovered. Joey was excellent beside him and Paul Murphy is...well Paul Murphy.

All in all, a good day but with stuff to work on.

Forgot to mention JJ...1-5 and 1-4 in 2 games. An excellent return and a real handful.

Great 2nd half performance. Drichie hogan was really chomping at the bit when he came on.

Really annoys me the way people say galway didnt turn up for the 2nd half and kk upped the intensity etc.

Galway cameout and put it up to kk in the 1st half and their hooking, blocking and work rate were excellent. This takes a toll on a team and it showed in thethe last period especially when galway were pretty much out on their feet.

KK I think seem to be able to absorb whatever is thrown at them in the 1st half and be within touching distance and the key thing here then is they make the relevant adjusments in order to get on top in the 2nd half of games, we see this time and time again in games over the last number of years and no team does it better. It really is a testament to Cody.
KKs tactics (yes tactics they clearly use them as every sports team does) have a huge bearing on games and Codys greatest trick has been to convince everyone that he doesnt do tactics.

Thought today Conor Fogarty was excellent and Michael Fennelly really drove them on in the second half and the midfield really got on top.

The backs wasted some ball in the second half but overall were pretty good but there's still some shaky moments as all three of the galway full forward line of mannion, whelan and cooney had plenty of joy and took some good scores.

The forwards weren't in it for the 1st half and cody made two changes which made a massive difference. Some of the scores taken were of great quality and jonjo has his place nailed on for the year now.

Conor Fogarty motm for me and on to next week now and see what the munster final produces.

Yes.alot to work on.larkins form a concern and Colin fennelly fitness.traininf will be intense with the likes of jackie trying to make a statement.thought Lennon really grew into the game second half.also great to see Jon jobs back up the dublin game.

According to radio..Colin Fennelly had tightness in hamstring at end of first half.

Buckley and Walsh hit a mountain of ball. Joyce and Mick Fennelly came strong in the second half but Conor Fogarty was mom. Still a lot of concerns as the forwards were out of it totally in the first half and we were lucky to be only three points down at half time. Unbelievable contribution from Richie Hogan considering his preparation. Interesting to see who will start in the forwards the next day. Tbh I don't see Lester Ryan as a forward, worked hard today but not a lot went right for him. Eoin Larkin is going to have to work hard to win a place

Lester could have had a goal in first half but shot straight at keeper. That was at a crucial time. He puts in a serious amount of work during a game. Need to see game again on tv.

    Is it on anywhere?

Great win by a great team today. Put alot of doubters to bed journalists and pundits alike.
A point I've been itching to make, some of our greatest players have left the scene (DJ, Sheflin, Tommy, JJ etc) but one constant remains that is, Cody. Not taking anything from the current players but as long as the boss stays Kilkenny will dominate Hurling.
