So ... how good is it?

Debating whether it's worth upgrading from the Nexus 5X, which is a pretty good phone itself!

Great phone, equal or better than anything else on the market right now... The details are the real winning point... it has allot of great features, but it's the entirety of all the little details that come together to make this such a great phone.

Does anyone else have problems with NFC? The Leap top-up app doesn't read cards on mine.

I used to be able to get mine to read my leap card if I held it in a certain position. Since the 1.80 update, I can't get it to read it at all. Funny thing is that 1.80 was meant to have NFC improvements, I'm pretty sure.

At least I'm not the only one. I thought mine was faulty, I was going to bring it back to 3 today. I hope this gets fixed soon, I got used to the service on my M9.

Last month I logged calls with HTC and Leapcard about this. Leapcard said it was a HTC issue and HTC said it was an issue with Leapcard. No way of winning. I still have my M7 so use that for the leapcard.

    1. Google photos (or "photos")

    2. Have you programmed in your prints?

    3. Which apps? Can you not just do it through settings > apps for compatible apps?

Yeah I'd an idea it was google photos,...music and videos??

I have been unable to programme/scan my prints?

I'm not entirely sure, whichever apps show up on Apps2SD as been suitable for transfer from the internal storage. When as you suggest I go into the settings>apps>select a suitable app>storage...CHANGE Storage used(Internal Storage) is greyed out!:(

Videos also appear in Google photos. There is play music for music.

For your fingerprints, go to settings > fingerprints.

From memory. Apps2SD is an old app dating back to Kit Kat, so I'm not sure what device you've come from. A lot of permissions have changed everything apps using external sd card, AFAIK. Your two main options are too keep apps on internal and media on external, or use adoptive storage.

It does'nt appear to connect to my htc media link that I used for my old htc one m7??

If u hold the card up to the very top of the phone so it's flat against the top, then slowly tilt it back a centimetre, then you'll trigger the NFC. It's very awkward I find.

You might have to move it away from the phone and back again so the NFC can detect it "coming into range".

Thank you, I've just tried this and it works. I'd say that puts the blame with HTC and not the leap app.

It's weird. That's the technique that I said worked for me going back a few weeks. Since I went to 1.80 base ROM, it won't work any more.

Edit: Actually hadn't done it with the tilt - used to just have to hold it flat. Bit fiddly, but can get it to work....thanks!

Hi. Any idea when this phone is being released to other networks?

Mid July for Meteor. Vodafone probably not at all. Haven't heard of any other networks such as Eir.

Has anyone managed to unlock this yet? I'd like to bring it on holidays next month.

I've tried doctorsim.com and sim-unlock.net without any success.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,972 ✭✭✭Flaccus

Same here. Waiting for unlock code from 3 after topping up 130 euro . Seems Three are unwilling to follow up with HTC. Once they request the unlock you just have to wait. Will be 12 days next Monday. Not happy.

Trying to port my sim unlocked phone over to another network but the nano sim card seems to be stuck??

Well finally got my unlock code. So the plan is to root and put the viper rom on.

Would this be the best guide for rooting

    any tips ?

Yeah, that's the method I used.

So guys, where's the best place to buy now then?
Vodafone don't seem to be getting it & I don't see it in carphone warehouse.
Is there any chance of more places selling this here?

Just Meteor next month, afaik. Just tried htc UK, and the promo code HTC10 still seems to work, meaning you can get it network unlocked for €622. Just use express shipping for free delivery, then Parcel Motel or similar.

Yeah, pulled it down late last night. Now I filter disabled apps and no longer get a blank screen.

Just popped VF sim in and did the unlock. Got a shock when mobile data wasn't working and found out the VF APN settings for Web and MMS didn't download. Had to put them in manually. Also no vodafone logo on top of screen (which is fine) and 4g shows up as LTE symbol. A quick speed test shows same results as Three (rubbish). So just hoping it's coverage and in city centre will be better. My S7 always managed around 100-150Mb/s in the city.

Will start the rooting process tonight. Is this a recommended app for removing system bloatware

    Thanks

I'm waiting on WiFi this evening to run the OTA, varying reports on XDA as to benefits, but seen a few mention getting an extra hour of SOT. Which would be nice.

I'm still not satisfied with battery life.

I've had to keep battery saver on constantly, and i'll still have to charge every night. Was out for the match on Sunday and had to turn me phone off for 2 hours just so i'd make it home with me phone one. :(

Yeah, I find the battery seems to discharge faster then the S7. Then again I am commuting 4-5 hours a day and I have been using my Three sim which has very low signal in many places, sometimes even no signal, so perhaps that is putting more stress on the battery. I will be able to tell over the next couple of days as I just unlocked and went back to Vodafone.

I just installed GSAM battery monitor, along with its companion app for rooted phones.
I've Xposed installed so then stuck on Amplify and Greenify from the App Store.

It's down to 73% (with loadsa Viber and Facebook and some gaming) from this morning so that's actually improved already. It's just sad the hoops we've to jump through these days for a decent battery life.

EDIT: Actually, on that note. Has anyone purchased a secondary charger for their phone? Looking for one for work and a cigarette lighter charger for me car. I went to buy some and then saw all this jazz about 56 ohm resistors and then just gave up. Ideally I'd just like one that'll charge me phone safely that I could keep for a few years.

Battery life isn't a huge issue for me, although I have my phone connected to my laptop at work most days. I generally don't charge again until the next day when I'm at work....although if I'm flashing stuff on it, it will drop a lot.

I purchased an Anker Quick Charge 2.0 portable charger last year, and I think it's a pretty useful thing to have. Don't use it a lot, but it's good to have. Haven't timed the charging speeds with it, but it seems pretty much as quick as my QC 3.0 wall charger.

Other than that, I have a couple of micro-usb to usb-c adapters. Can always find a micro-usb cable lying around.
