About a week ago my phone suddenly crashed and rebooted, started up as normal. Since that happened there has been a huge improvement in my battery life. Before the crash my battery would be at 20% or less by 10pm. Now it's at 50% at 10pm. Nothing else has changed.

My battery is proving no different than the S7 and the edge before it. In a 16 hour period very little calls, typically lots text, hangouts, at least 2 hours spotify and browsing and often in areas where wifi and data coverage is poor. It goes from about 95-100% charged in the morning to around 15-20% by 10pm at night. Seems decent enough and definitely charges faster than the S7 did.

I have nothing that pushes the 10 so performance between it and the S7 and even the S6, M9 seems about the same.

The only disappointment I have is the screen is not as vibrant as the S7's. That's amoled for you and I actually do prefer Samsungs touchwiz UI but once I root and flash a Rom I can fix that. Other than that I see the big advantage the HTC 10 has is the headphone audio which is in a different league to everything out there, and of course the solid build construction and can even be used without a case. The S7 was too slippery and always worried about the back glass breaking or scratching as it has been proven not to be as resilient as the front glass and the back camera does not have a sapphire protective covering either, unlike the 10. The 10 on the other hand feels better in the hand, has a nicer design in my opinion, and from what I can tell so far - the camera is as capable as the S7's in the shots I take.

The only annoyance is there is a countdown timer for 4K video recording. Considering the IP6S has no limit and doesn't overheat I don't see why HTC did this. Very annoying. I assume this won't be the case once I flash something like Viper. Still waiting for unlock code though. Now Three are saying up to 7 days I have to wait.

Viper has the timer, but I just asked the devs about removing. I could probably find it myself, if I went digging.

Personally, I only use FHD. My phone is the only device I own that is higher res than that :D

Yeah, i have a 4k sony camera and tv. My imac is 5k, pc monitor is 4k. Do a fair bit of video editing. So it would be nice not to be limited on the 10.

By the way, if you go trying to remove the 10's encrypion does it kill the antennas. Probably old news and sorted now. Definitely looking forward to flashing a new rom. I take it viper is highly recommended. Any alternatives as good. Leedroid seems popular.

All the encryption stuff is confusing as hell, but pretty much sorted now. You need to make sure you use the latest TWRP, there are issues with older ones.

I've only used Viper for years now, have been 'part of the team' since their inception. Beta testing, theming, basic mods, managing hub etc. Can't really comment on other ROMs, I'm sure they all have their advantages.

    Something about sandwiches

I've mine SIM unlocked and the bootloader unlocked from HTC.
Does that mean I'm S-OFF or is that another step?

I saw an app callde Sunshine (I think) but it cost about 25 euro to get S-OFF.

Yeah, you need sunshine for s-off. It's not necessary, but the main benefit is that you can flash compatible firmware. If you're not s-off, you have to return to stock to receive any OTA's that contain firmware, then unlock bootloader and root again. Saves a lot of hassle.

Dunno what the **** is up with my phone. I tried to install the latest version of venom rom dirty flashed it rebooted and it hangs on the htc screen. So i wiped the phone *Which im sick of having to do at this stage* tried to go back to factory settings and still hangs. Just stuck on the htc screen now and i dunno how to sort it as ive tried full wiping it and it still doesnt boot up.

Sorry for the stupid question but are you refreshing something after the wipes? A wrkn previous version or anything?

At this stage im literally just fully wiping the phone and trying to reboot it as theres no custom rom installed and just factory settings. It hangs on the htc screen for a long long period of time.

In one of the Venom updates there was changed to framework.jar, I think. This will make it hang for ages before a cache rebuild starts. How long did you wait?

Post in the XDA thread, someone will help.

Been posting in there last while now trying to sort it nothing seems to work.

Ive tried everything now and it has just stopped at the htc screen for a LONG time. Im just gonna leave it now and see how long hopefully it comes on. At this stage ive no phone.

Probably no consolation, but I don't think I've done a wipe at all on the 10 yet, except for when going s-off :D

You've no system to actually boot to if im reading you right! You need to flash something after a wipe or restore a nandroid if you have one. Download a flashable stock zip from xda, im sure its easily found, and run that before booting.

All this talk of stuff goin wrong, i might scrap my plans and throw on nova launcher instead. Lol.

Found a weird bug in sense. Can no longer filter disabled apps in app manager. Shows no results found. Only happened after enabling adopted stotage. Can get the google system apps back by enabling them in playstore but for the rest like the htc touchpal keyboard, thats all she wrote. Might do a reset from within the ui or is a hard reset recommended.

35 mins and its still hanging on the htc screen.

Is there anyway i can flash the stock rom without having to move it to the external sd? I cant connect my phone to the pc at the moment because its either stuck on boot screen or i can go into recovery.

Is there a way of flashing it from the pc?

Boot to recovery and connect to PC. PC should be able to see it to copy across. If not, adb push file to sdcard.

You need to navigate to wherever your adb is located with command prompt (unless you've set the path in environment variables). Then it's just:

    adb push "fileyourepushing" /sdcard

    Or

    adb push "fileyourepushing" /external_sd

Edit: transfer is damn slow that way, will take a while

So i moved the file to external card and went into download mode it found the file i pressed volume up and it got 3 errors and doesnt work.......

Which one from this link do i pick?

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297

Can anyone tell me how to re-enable an app.

I did a factory reset, disabled Facebook. Then under settings, I select apps, filter by disabled and I get 'No Apps Found' !!

Just go to the play store, and download facebook....i think it tells you you have to enable it first?

Edit: I also have Facebook disabled, and it displays when I filter by disabled....

Yes, I can re-enable via the play store. But certain apps like the htc keyboard, once disabled I can never re-enable at a later stage. But nothing displays when I filter by disabled. Pants.

Not a huge deal. Encourages me to flash now. There is stuff like three mobile services, three app cloud and another few bits of crap I can't get rid of.

Hmmm...seems I am not the only one
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/disabled-apps-filter-doesnt-t3383185
it's a problem with 1.53 and fixed in 1.8 OTA update which if course 3 have not put out.

Is there a user manual available in a pdf format?Just wondering where I go to access music I transferred over today...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,972 ✭✭✭Flaccus

Another thing I don't understand....why is there a linkedin and twitter for htc sense installed (under system apps) but no actual twitter or linked app you can physically open. About the only thing you can do is add a Linked In for HTC account under Accounts and Sync inside Settings.

As I use both of these apps I had to install them from the playstore. I then disabled the htc sense versions which as far as I can tell do nothing. Googling reveals it's part of some integrated HTC hub. So I'm guessing when you open the People app it probably shows you those peoples tweets and linkedin details.

I imagine it's used for stuff like integration into BlinkFeed.

Ah right never thought of that. Hate Blinkfleed, especially NewsRepublic it ties into. I find Feedly far superior, even Google Play News Stand as your not limited by the pre-canned topics and can add your own feeds. It's a pity you can't add other News curators or aggregators to Blinkfeed.

Anyway, I think Adoptable Storage is also a waste of time. Any apps I moved are just too slow to load compared with internal memory as expected. While the sd card is decent it's random read speeds are not great. Better of using it just for photos, spotify cache etc..

So ... how good is it?

Debating whether it's worth upgrading from the Nexus 5X, which is a pretty good phone itself!

It's fine, battery a little better than m8 ,quick charging is good,I upgraded for 120€ with 3,I think the difference between upgrades has got narrower, however I am not technically minded like many on here but I would not have noticed it any quicker on internet or any more user friendly than my last phone other than the quick charge ,I know nothing about nexus so I cannot compare it
