Looking to get a panel wipe to use after polishing. To make sure that all residue from the polish is removed from the car prior to applying a coating/wax. Any recommendations

Carpro eraser from detailshed, been using it there recently does the job.

Otherwise an IPA from a detailer.

    Thanks will look that up.

On the IPA for panel wipe, is it 100% IPA as I may have a supply of high purity 70% IPA in DIW but a small bit of 100% IPA (500ml or so).

I managed to get some large texwipes (two packets) and I was thinking of using the IPA on a Texwipe for a panel wipe......

Texwipes would mark the paint - nowhere near soft enough

Started decontaminating a friends car last night, just heading out to begin claying it.

Need to get some suede micro fiber cloths and an applicator block. Any suggestions where I can get them much appreciated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 920 ✭✭✭Ron Burgundy II

I saw them after I posted but now I'm looking for just the applicator block/pad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

There isnt anything special about the block - surely you can find something in the house thats of an ideal shape/size

This detailing obsession is getting bad. I went shopping and bought this for feck sake!

    prodzoomimg7148.jpg

It's Dometic acrylic window cleaning and polishing kit. The acrylic windows can get easily marked, especially from poor washing technique. I know the Brass trick works on heavy scratches but I don't want to use Brasso for light scratches and tension marks.

Before you start shouting, I didn't mark them when I was washing it! I knew how to wash them before I got obsessed with the Detailing lark.

I'm getting slightly mad at this motorhome detailing lark!

If you can try and pick up some Microfiber Madness microfibers, it's worth it.

On a small downer I spilled half a bottle of TarX, put it down on the ground and the wind caught the gate and knocked the bottle over.

Guys - didn't want to start a new thread for a basic question.

Just bought a weekend / summer toy, its a ragtop and the roof could do with a good clean and treatment with a waterproof spray. Its an 03 Boxster so would like to use good stuff to get as much protection and life out of the roof as possible.

What would be the best stuff and where would I get it. I did a search and someone mentioned Halfords stuff on a 3 series but that was back in 2013 and products might have moved on since then. There are some products on detailingshed but they only have 1 review each.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Its not that products have moved on drastically, they were available in 2013, but Halfords dont sell them. The top will need a very good clean, and let dry completely, before applying any product on it, if you want to achieve any sort of durability.

My choice would be CarPro Fabric Coat

Thanks -so thats a suggestion for the final treatment, what about cleaning and getting some stains off it, few places where there are bits or green / moss and bird crap stains.

I have watched a few youtube vids about the process etc, just trying to find the best products for the job.

Plan is to clean it really well and then bring inside for a day or two to let it dry completely before treating it.

If usual cleaning doesnt work then for tough bits try a APC sprayed on dwell for a minute and maybe a detail brush to agitate, rinse/wash area again.

Leave Curran suggest more as I not had to clean fabric roofs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

As said an APC (All Purpose Cleaner) and work it in with a reasonably stiff bristle brush. Hose off and repeat if necessary.

    Ladies,

The break pads wore down on the fsthers jeep, causing brake dust to be scattered all over the side step and some on the wheel.

Got most of it off with petrol, but there's bit's in the corners that won't budge. I'm out of korrosol, but is that my saviour? A pic of the way it is now, with them little bits in the corners.
