It isn't gonna make him have better technique or be able to take a punch better but its relevant,it speaks to his overall fitness as its more of a lifestyle for him and Nick than being in and out of camps like most fighters and guys like that have cardio for days.

yeah I do kind of agree with you and mellor but I just feel it's not going to make as big an impact overall as people think. They are doing triathlons all the time, the two brothers, but they're also doing a sh!t loada weed all the time so who knows really what kinda man will step in this August. if that's fair to say.

OK so there is a video of him training with portal today in the gym.

Doing some ridiculous movements. I thought it was only the week of the fight to keep free and loose.

you want to be great at riding a bike, then ride a bike, same for swimming, same for running. it might keep you fit but there's a difference between being a fit triathlete and being fighting fit, this holds no water for me. it's a good base but no great edge to use as a magic bullet.

taking punches and holding your hands up alone saps the life out of you.
your body is moving in a completely different way. sure if it gave him an edge wouldn't all the fighters be on bikes. Ali and sugar ray did road work but if you want to do well, practice to fight, hone your technique, pace under pressure timing etc, it's more important than anything.

example, how does all the triathlons in the world help him if he's knocked out with a precise shot like Jose aldo?? he needs to stick with his good boxing and that jab, I mean Nate now.

You do realise that Nate is an MMA fighter who does triathlons and not a triathlete trying MMA??

Whatever about the Ido Portal thing that GIF of him and the lads poncing around in some mansion in LA never fails to make me laugh. I know its just a warm up exercise but they all look like a bunch of twats doing it, especially watching Gunnar dancing like a girl:D

how many times do people need to be told ido portal is a movement coach, hes not Conor's striking coach, hes not Conor's jiu jitsu coach and hes not Conor's conditioning coach, he comes in and does glorified stretching with him get over it already, getting quite tiresome..

He's doing more than that though (im not gonna get into a warz arguement just saying) the videos below are no movement drills or warm ups they are striking drills

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BHCxyzxgJ4J/?taken-by=coach_kavanagh

Im no expert dont claim to be ive no problem with him being used to loosed the body, warm ups ect but anyone saying thats not striking training is drugs he clearly has some influence on him (that I wouldnt be a fan of)

theyre not really striking drills atal to be fair, movement in around striking but from those videos and any other portal gives no insight into striking, never has

Roddy must find this **** infuriating.

Think this has got to be more about Conor standing behind Ido and not appearing to have changed his whole ideas based on some "touch butt " comments from Nate.

He is basically saying it wasn't down to Ido that he lost and he is not changing anything drastically or admitting to being wrong etc.i would say he has changed plenty this is probably more about appearances than anything.

Id say appearances is a large part of why ido has been there from the beginning

Yeah for sure i agree with that, its all part of Conors gimmick imo, selling this idea that he is an innovator doing new stuff etc. its part of what got him to where he is.

Was thinking similar myself. Roddy is Conors striking coach, wouldn't that also involve coaching on 'movement'?

    And angles and footwork.

What ****ing clue does Portal have about any of the above.

Can we open an Ido Portal appreciation thread cause this one will probably end up being about him

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 7,269 ✭✭✭Gamebred

its a discussion forum dont see the problem discussing his training methods if you dont like the subject move onto the next thread, not aimed at you just more a general statement,

I'd consider footwork to fall within striking.
Same was as guard passing/takedowns/etc each fall within grappling.

Don't know what to make of the Ido stuff. But I still maintain two 15second clips on IG gives zero insight into what he has done this week in training
