Semi final against the French coming up later.

They're looking a little better today although the Russians and British team on the other side of the draw do look better again. Passing is still mixed which is killing their own space and defensively they're a little bit too acute. But always improving and always increasing our chances of doing something special. The weekend that's in it, it'd be great to see a win in Kazan and Malmo!

Irish men win 31-12 in QF in Malmo, their semi final is against Ukraine at ~13.30

France leading 14-7 over les femmes at half time.

Good decision to kick at the end. Struggling to break through the defence.

Had a good period in the second half but the French tackling was fairly ferocious. They didn't do enough to draw in the French players so as to create space.

Men won quarter final against Cyprus 31-12, Semi against Ukraine was won 26-12 and they beat Sweden 57-0 in the final

Wom lost Cup semi to France 28-12 before losing 3/4 to GB Lions 32-0

    Good weekend for both sides.

What are the implications of this for the men. I know that winning the tournament gets them into the Olympics but how do they get onto the big 7s circuit

There will be qualification tournaments sometime during the year. We're not at that stage yet and if we win in Prague on July 2nd in the second leg of European trophy we will be promoted to European grand prix series and then we will have shot at making world series

As far as I am aware its only for the Olympics nothing else

Thanks for that. Good there's a relatively clear path of promotion through the levels

Yeah, a novel concept! Would be lovely if it applied across the board...

Do you know if the squad can be changed for Olympics if we qualifies? Someone like Niyi Adeolokun would be perfect for 7's

Of course it can but I don't see it changing if in the unlikely chance we do qualify.
Samoa, Canada and Tonga all big wins so far
