    I didn't say they are :)
Would be interesting to see if the chap with the gun was a member though or do his views even align to Britain First

It's all over Facebook that he was a subscriber to far right magazines but God knows how reliable that is.

Apparently now, she was the victim of a row between two other people. Not targeted?

Still horrible, but how quickly and fast the dynamics of the media reporting of these events can change.

I thought that had been mentioned earlier but later discounted by the British media?

Remember how Barry George was obsessed with killing Jill Dando and the proof was he was a Queen fan?

Nine years in prison - an innocent man - due to the initial media lies and hysteria

You appear to be getting rather worked up over people blaming britain first over this.
All people have to go on are a number of named witnesses that claim he shouted 'britain first' and that a 77 year old man was injured when he tried to intervene.

I hate BF, but there are some very serious consequences to the possibility of one of her own REMAIN people using her murder to lie for political gain

that is very serious in my opinion.

I would be surprised if she wasn't targeted. He was equipped to kill a person and was a bit too thorough. Will have to wait and see. Getting him alive would help to clear up what's going on. If it does turn out to be related to BF then I hope this thread turns out better than the Breivik one. People have already started with the conspiracy theories.

Someone with the name 'Thomas Mair', from Batley in Yorkshire, was a subscriber to an anti-ANC, pro-apartheid magazine. According to Wikipedia, the town has a population of around 50,000, so it may or may not be the same person. Even if he did have far-right beliefs, the murder may or may not have been motivated by that ideology. Nobody really knows yet, but it'll probably become clearer soon enough.

It's all so grim. All Jo Cox did was go to work today, just like any other day, to help people. And now two very young children have no mum.

She seemed like a genuine person. Cameron seemed to be genuinely upset about her death. shocking to think she survived working in some dodgy places only to be killed in a supposedly sedate spot. i really hope people involved in the brexit referendum don't start playing politics with her death. maybe a naive hope on my part

    From her husband:
Today is the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. More difficult, more painful, less joyful, less full of love. I and Jo's friends and family are going to work every moment of our lives to love and nurture our kids and to fight against the hate that killed Jo.
Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it every day of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people. She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her. Hate doesn't have a creed, race or religion, it is poisonous.
Jo would have no regrets about her life, she lived every day of it to the full.

At the end of the day everyone's a colleague in any parliamentary system. they're just not all in agreement on what they're doing how how to do it, but they're all doing the same job.

I know we're all a little cynical about politics and I know you get the odd bad egg in the political system but most MPs and TDs are very much salt of the earth people who their best to represent their constituents and improve things. They're the people who put themselves forward when most of the rest of us sit back and let things happen.

This is just a local mp doing what is at the core of community here in Ireland as much as it is in Britain; the local TD/MP chatting to constituents in their clinic.

Whatever the motive, it's a horrific attack on a very ordinary and very close to home part of society and democracy.

Yeah. The guy had a gun which is pretty rare in the UK. So she was either really unlucky and stumbled into something or the guy targeted her.

I hear talk of a homemade gun? or maybe a very old gun?

    The gun was homemade apparently.

You need only read some forums (not necessarily here) to see the visceral hatred dished out to politicians of all parties.

It only takes one of these nuts to get worked up enough to do something like this.

That's not to say this was the case here, but bear in mind when hatred is vented towards politicians, there is someone in that baying mob who is irrational enough to carry the threat further than just verbals.

And I'm afraid to say the social media is making it worse.

I would agree with that, contrary to popular perception, most politicians are decent people who get into politics as they want to improve society.

The statement from her husband is very courageous and compassionate- it would be very easy for him to be consumed by grief, bitterness and hate at this time.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen people implying that they want *insert politician* to meet a violent end.

Same as the Guardian shutting down comments on anything Islam related. News sites suiting their own agenda shocka.

It is a criminal case. Comments or rumours about what happened on the incident itself may skew public opinion.

A guy on sky news said it happened in her GP by someone from britain first?

Does anyone have a police source yet what actually happened?

Not really. like boards.ie does when cases have to go to prosecution here.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Doubt it. Doubt that the police even know for sure what happened yet

Or when someone mention denis o'brien....

Back to the poor lady family. I couldn't even think what the husband is going through losing his wife now with two young daughters. I really hope he can get through this.

Wow. What a poignant and powerful statement. How someone can not be filled with so much rage at a time like this is beyond me.

It is a criminal case. Comments or rumours about what happened on the incident itself may skew public opinion.

The Daily Mail's only reason for existence is to skew public opinion. The only reason they shut down comments is when the skewing won't suit their editorial agenda.
