Tachy? No idea, never heard of it.

As for distortion, MXR pedals are really bloody good. I'd use the amp distortion if it was good. My Fender has dreadful amp distortion but the Peavey Bandit distortion absolutely rocks!
Really? I thought SS peavey distortion sucked.

When you put a tachy on a user, it lets that user post/spam away to their hearts content, but nobody sees the posts only themselves! Its great, much better than banning, because when you ban they just sign up for a new A/C with a different IP.

    Interesting.

Na, this distortion absolutely rocks imo. Real crunchy, really responds to the amp eq and rolling back the guitar volume. Might flog my amp and get one.

So, any opinions on the Mesa Boogie pedals? I know whatshisname had a V-Twin and wasn't impressed, but anyone else?

How about you sell your kidneys and get a classic 30 not a bandit. I think you'll regret getting another SS tbh.

The Rackmount V-twin preamps are supposed to be nice. Get one on ebay before they get really expensive though if youre getting one.

This one. Really really impressive, great growl with only one 12" speaker so it's easier to lug about.

Fitz had one I think. Some people like them, other's don't. Never had the oppurtunity to play through one. They're supposed to be built like tanks though.

they are strong bastartds the have a few of em in sound lease studios in walkinstown (thats in dublin) i used them for a while there before i could transport my own amp...clean is **** od has serious punch

They cant be that good... Budget SS tbh. Good for beginners and people who know no better. I really think you should get valves for just a couple of hundred more

Oh, believe me, it is a rather savage amp! Sounds surprising but it is really nice. Lovely sounding clean, great distortion. Stick the ME-50 in the loop and you're sorted!

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of, they might skyrocket in price, so I might give musician inc a ring and see if they have any boogie pedals around, see if I can blag 'em for myself.

Classic 30... 'nuff said, theyre supposedly nice amps.. especially at only €569. But then again €750 isn't THAT much more for an ENGL..

Off Topic: What do you work at john, youre always on your lunch break at this time! Do you actually DO work or just post on boards?!

Dont think Musician Inc do Mesa pedals, especially since theyre discontinued. Have they ever sold a single Mesa in there? Its like 3k for a single rectifier in there.

Classic 30 doesn't have a particularly high gain sound. And it's almost twice the price.

BTW, that off topicness is exactly the kind of thing I was highlighting for the pm system.

I don't know, but it wouldn't hurt to find out if they've any old ones in stock. I think I'd like to get hold of the V-1 Bottle Rocket as I've heard people saying they are quite superior to the V-Twin purely as a tube Overdrive/Distortion pedal. Found one here, but £250 is quite steep.

Yeah, i just included it at the end of that post for handiness... I guess im just lazy.

But if you add maybe a tubescreamer in front of the cranked clean channel of the classic 30 you'll get a nice distorted tone.

If i HAD to go solidstate on a budget, i'd get a H&K tour reverb TBH. Its only like €300 on thomann, but can sound amazing.

£250 is VERY steep for a pedal.. I'd go ebay if i were you, then if you dont like it, flog it for 50 quid more than you paid in the buy and sell. I think Dave Franklin was gonna get a bottle rocket at some stage but he got the muff instead

Dave Franklin = It Wasn't Me

Ever tried the Bandit? I just think it's gorgeous. I'll try and record some clips if I could be bothered :P

Never tried it... but ive seen a few bog standard pop punk bands gigging with them...

With hillarious conciquences might i add. That kinda turned me off them TBH.

I've seen crap bands with Mesa's behind them...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,693 ✭✭✭david

True... but it all depends on how use the gear you have... Its been said before, but Conall from MGS gets AMAZING tone from a budget solidstate halfstack. His tone on that album is even better though... He used Pete Slanksters Dual Rectifier I think with a nice PRS McCarthy (not too sure about the guitar but i think thats the model he used anyway)... Thats for the dirty sounds

Can't find them on ebay though. And in fairness, it is a tube pedal, so you'd really expect to pay for that kind of thing.

    EH do tube pedals tbh.

And didn't Conall use an ENGL on that album too? It's a nice tone but it's not the nicest I've ever heard.

    Big Generator? :D

I've heard the EH Hot Tubes pedal and wasn't too impressed at all. And that's nearly as much as the Bottle Rocket.

I think he might have gotten a loan of Alan from Pinion's Powerball (or Fireball? cant remember) for some tracks but the hi-gain stuff was almost all Dual Rec. In all fairness though... that album has extremely nice guitar tones and is very well recorded taking its low budget into consideration. Peter Slankster did an amazing job.

Theres an article in this months guitar buyer about loads of new vox valve overdrive/distortion pedals. I've heard great things about the hughes and kettner warp factor pedal
