Ah yes, those clubs are what it was all about, wish I was there!
The system is were I mainly went, Buttery Brasserie beforehand,my mate use to Dj there on Sat night, great place to start off. Pod, Temple of sound I made it to, the Blue note once!

But unfortunately I never got to the Sides, Ormond, Asylum, Columbia Mills & UFO etc

Really appreciate the detail Bohsboy & Dstar.

We had a good go at our own little rave, twas in 1998, a club called Ressurection, held in Pegs on Sunday afternoon, well at in the begining it started at 12pm and ran to 10pm on Sunday night, great way to start your weeks clubbing, ah yes even then you could be guaranteed a good gig 7 nights a week, maybe monday as a day of rest tho.

Check out Youtube for Ormond footage, heres one to get yis goin.....

Yeah sure thing. That's Global "A better love" on Gorgeous Records (1993). It was actually the B-Side of that EP, and had a track by Para Dice called "Can you hear me", which sampled the riff from Kariya's "Baby let me love you" and was an Olympic favourite. I'm sure you'd know the "Para Dice" track really well, it was one of my favourite piano house tracks of that era, the vocal was great, really uplifting. I'm looking at the vinyl copy here in front of me, I'm sure you'd pick it up on a second hand site somewhere. I couldn't see it on Gemm or Ebay mind you, it seems to be quite rare. Here it is on Discogs anyway, its not cheap as you can see, but the copies are in mint condition:

I knew I recognised that track when I heard it and I'm nearly 99.9% sure that I have a copy of it at home, must have a route around for it tonight.

Yeah it says on Discogs it was limited to a pressing of 200 copies, but I really doubt that as I don't think we would have gotten copies in Ireland if that was the case. Some of the sellers on Discogs really take the piss, this record is not worth £50 Sterling, but it seems that's what they're asking for it.

Try and get an MP3 copy of it Derra, as the artists are not going to receive any royalties from the second hand sale of the record anyway, and these prices are extortionate imo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

Well it is possible that only 200 copies were pressed and a couple made their way over to Abbey Discs I suppose. And I used to buy an awful lot of Vinyl from AD.

But as for the prices on Discogs, I'd agree that they're ridiculous but there's a hell of a difference between what someone wants and what someone gets. I'd be very surprised if any of them ever get close to the asking price.

I got my copy in "Music Power" under the arch in Temple Bar! I really don't see how there are only 200 copies, but I do think its quite a rare track. Any time I played it years ago at parties I was always asked who it was by, and I only know one other person who has a copy. Its not really the type of music I like these days, as once I hit 19 I got more into US house, but this record brings back a lot of good memories, which is why I wouldn't sell it. As a rule, I don't sell any of my records, however bad (and I've plenty of bad ones!), as they all tell part of the story of my musical journey through life. Might sound corney, but its my excuse anyway!

That'd be my philosophy too, although down through the years it's been a pain when moving home, vinyl ain't light!!! :D

Btw, are you the Aidan Kelly that used to play on Power FM?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 57 ✭✭aidan kelly

That's always a difficult one to answer! Yes I am an Aidan Kelly and I did play records on Power FM, but I'm not the more famous Aidan Kelly who plays on Sunday's on Power FM, if that answers your question! The more famous Aidan is a photographer and DJ, he still plays on Power as far as I know. Good DJ too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

I used to play on Power FM for a couple of years and the more "famous" AK used to be on after me so I was just wondering if that was you!

Found that track. Luckily enough it was in the first pile and I didn't have to trawl through hundreds and hundreds before I found it. Just listening to it now, real blast from the past!!

It's a RED Import, i.e. Red Records, so the limited to 200 copies is probably bull.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 275 ✭✭Gen:FX

Derra, I've not forgot bout' ya buddy. There is a mass of gig's here for you to play with,.... although Mediafire is 'awsome' , I just dont have the time to UL all them gigs, - PM me if you will.

    CAF.;)

PS - have you 'rummaged' anything else from the SP? - as I said B4, you need to hook that puppy up to a sequencer to get the best from it (same as other kit). GB2Me ;)

    How's it going gang?

Great thread. Came on after googling MW.

The first time I ever heard of the Asylum was the morning after the guy got shot. All the lads were talking about it on the bus to Donegal and I think a few of the older crowd were still fresh from the previous night:D The crew were listening to Asylum sounds the whole journey.

The Asylum only ever existed for me in stories and recordings so it was great to see some of the old pics and fliers. Thanks to all who made the effort and big shout out to Gen:Fx. Great website mate and thanks for the Hallucinate mix. I'd love to see the Asylum vids if you get a chance.

Did any of you ever go to the Pavillion? Who used to DJ this?

Also I noticed there was a bit of debate about HP5. I have a copy(there's a robot/sci-fi kind of thing on the cover). I posted it on Ministry a while back, but if anyone didn't get it, give me a shout and I'll u/l.

Finally would be really if someone could u/l some Dilly.

Be gentle, it's my first time:p
