Is it 100% certain this is ntsc compatible? This would be the clincher for me.

what is the sound output like? already have a beko 15" , the sounds is akin to an old transistor radio - very "thinny" (my best attempt at describing the sound output)

MainShane - I'm pretty sure this thread on avforums confirmed that it is NTSC compatible:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213625

when you say 'this would be a clincher for me' it sounds like you have an option to buy one - they were all sold out round my way in tallaght by 9.30am - dont suppose you happen to know of somewhere I can get my hands on one?

OhPinchy -- No, I suppose it will be keeping fingers crossed hoping the ALDI near me gets more in.

Does anyone know of a site that actually states the NTSC spec, or can anyone who got their hands on one confirm this from the manual?

Just left Aldi in Clane and they still have them - look very nice

hurahh! Went back to Aldi and they stil had some here in Galway so got a quick replacement. No questions asked, no forms to sign. Happy as can be with my shiny new tv. And best of all the Tevion badge comes off so knowbody will know I'm an Aldi whore.

According to the manual...it's Multi-standard PAL, SECAM & NTSC.

Base2 - how easy does the badge come off and does it leave a mark? I think the badge is a bit big and would look a lot cleaner without it.

Think Lidi tv is a 30inch.Those extra two inches could make all the difference :D .

The LIDL TV is 30", and only has a single tuner, not dual. (Still excellent value at €999, mind.)

The Tevion aspect ratio can be changed via the Picture menu, or also directly from the remote using the ARC (Adjust Ratio Control, I presume) button, which cycles between AUTO (based on input picture), 4:3, PANORAMA (non-linear scaling of 4:3 to 16:9 so centre remains undistorted), CINEMA (stretches 2.35:1 back to 16:9 to remove black bars at top & bottom), and WIDE PICTURE (anomorphic wide screen).

The sound quality is actually pretty decent: apparently there are six speakers buried inside the case. It looks like it should be crap, but sounded not bad at all when I watched an episode of the West Wing just now.

Re NTSC, the Features list in the manual on Page 5 says "Mutli-standard PAL, SECAM, and NTSC", and one of the picture menus describes a "Tint" option, with the comment that it only applies to NTSC sources. So, should be covered on that score.

Any idea how many they had left in Clane? Might give it a go this afternoon if it sounds like theres a decent chance of getting one. Don't suppose theres any phone number I can ring to check?

Out of curiosity, can any of you new Tevion owners tell me...

What type of wall mount does it take? Vesa compatible?

Do the speakers detach, so only the screen is wall mounted?

    :o Hi all,
has anybody seen a pink tint on the aldi screen? I bought mine
yesterday and unpacked it last night. Watched GMTV this morning
and the presenters has a pinkish glow, tried all the backlight, brightness,
contract and colour settings but its still there. I know theres a tint
option but that only for NTSC. I wonder if it could be the scart cable
as I've got sky -> video -> lcd scart setup ?

Try going directly from the sky with a scart cable if it's still there then eliminate the cable and try again.

hi jammer, i went out to pc world and currys in blanch and neither had this model, they had the 26 inch version but even that was 1199. of course nobody there had a clue either about them, was asking one guy did he know the main differences between two of the philips models, he said one of them was an LCD and the other was a 'FLAT TV' and
that the flat TV one was 'nicer'!!
    cheers mate!!

i'm going up to pick mine up from PC World in a min :) they were in the paper yesterday..did PC world not have it down the back? The 26" white philips is a horrible TV

Haha. I love asking pcworld/ currys workers basic questions.

One day I was approached 4 times by various fools asking if I needed help. I knew they have a clue so I refused. When I did as for help, as expected your man didnt have a clue. Why bother the customer if you dont even know your own job?

Tony, this is almost definitely your SCART connection. I had the same issue initially from my NTL box; the SCART sockets at the back of the Tevion work against gravity, because the cables plug into them upside down, rather than sideways like most TVs.

When I changed from the slightly dodgy looking SCART extension I'd been using to a decent quality SCART, everything looked sharp again, so I'd suggest switching cables and also making sure it is plugged in FIRMLY at both ends.

There are four mounting holes on the back in what looks like the standard 100mm VESA configuration, but they might be a bit further apart than that - I haven't measured them yet. I'd be surprised if they weren't standard, but you never know...

As far as I can tell, there is no easy way to detach the speakers - they are built into the same part of the base that also houses the front A/V inputs and manual controls. So if you're looking for just a plain screen on the wall with no extra embellishments, you might be out of luck...
