I can ensure you, that you would get sick of it very soon (i had this car in Czech for like 2 years) :-)) ... it's loud, slow and in hot weather when you're stuck in slow traffic the engine is overheating :-))) ... on the other hand to maintain this car you need just two screwdrivers and some spanners..

I saw this Skoda Estelle Rapid on South Ring last year.. 11th of November 2010.. Like new condition.. 1989 was the last year of production.. in late 2008/early 2009 i saw the same one in brown in Cork, but it was in rough condition, so who knows where it is now.. probably scrapped..

Now your just teasing me.. I would like both of them. Just to polish and use on a weekend.

I remember these motors beng commonplace in the UK. But this was back in the days when Skoda was a joke. I often get out to Czech myself, but even there they are not such a common thing now. In Prague you never see any of them - you need to get to the smaller towns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,750 ✭✭✭Diabhalta

You won't see them in Prague really... They are not practical, because the boot is very small and the car just won't keep up with the newer cars... People simply got rid of them, but as you say they are still in the rest of the country in smaller towns... Numbers are very small though.

And there is one more thing, and that is the safety. These cars are everything but not safe. It's not just because there is no engine in front, but the metal isn't the thickest and if you add some corrosion and hit a solid obstacle even in low speed you can be sure that you're in big trouble.

Don't mind the text, just have a look at the pictures:

    http://www.novinky.cz/krimi/237793-mladik-si-vyzvedl-ridicak-a-pri-ceste-na-koupani-zabil-v-aute-dva-kamarady.html

... This happened couple of months ago somewhere in Czech. 5 teenagers and driver with fresh licence slid of the road and hit a tree. Two of them didn't make it...

Is that old? or is it one of those repo's with transit running gear?

[edit] answered my own question by checking cartell, it's registered as a Ford Transit Popular.

My landlord arrived up to his summer house across the street from ours in this earlier today.

    280.jpg

    279.jpg

It belonged to his father from new in 1962 and then passed to him. He's had it at his other summer house in Spain for 18 years so it is rust free, brought it back and recently had it restored. Looks well although the paint looks a little heavy in places.

Some of these are called Asquiths, which were the body builders I guess?

Its a Renault 4CV. Once Frances biggest selling car i think a few were also assembled here at one point. Typical of cars at the time was the attention to detail in the design. saw this one a few weeks ago.
