Hey All, first time posting here, not sure if this has been posted before, sorry if that's the case. Don't see too many of these around but this caught the eye few weeks since. Days after taking the pic I noticed an Irish number plate in the front and back windows so it must have been adopted for use on these shores. Not a fan myself but noticed saab Ed rated the same car (i think) in the cool thread, so there's one I hope will appreciate it at least. Bit of rust at rear lights bar that it's in pretty good shape for a Lancia. Sorry I don't have model name/number, it just says 2500 so my guess would be that it is known as that. If not can anyone tell us please.

If you look at the badge beside the word Lancia is the greek letter gamma.jpggamma, the car dates from 1979

I know this thread is not short of a few beetles but sure what's another one!

Especially as it's a cabrio and lhd.

Perhaps the Beetle boffins can tell if it's a factory (Karmann) cabrio or an aftermarket chop, I'm guessing from the side window chrome surrounds it's a Karmann.

flat windscreen, tombstone rear lights, and 'bulging' wider front bootlid, makes this a 70-71 "1302"

I haven't seen this Lancia Beta Monte Carlo 6850 LI in a long time.

    14062009_edited-1.jpg
    14062009002.jpg
Passed it on the old N4 outside Clonard this morning.

It was originally imported new from Italy by an Italian Chipper in Mullingar (around 1980 I'm guessing, can anyone date the plate?).

He drove it here himself on Italian plates, I remember him telling me about driving through the south of England with 3 foot of snow on the side of the road, all that salt couldn't have been good for it.

I was only asking him about it about 18 months ago and he told me that he had sold it to the UK years ago, seems like it has found it's way back here again, (It has a Des Cullen Cars sticker on it now)

I have a vague recollection that it had a factory upgraded engine, although I could well be mistaken. I do remember that when new the Pirelli P6's on the back of it were the widest tyres I had ever seen in my life! :o

If any one knows or meets the present owner and he wants to get in touch with the original owner for it's history just PM me for contact details.

That is a '66 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Limousine.
Originally exported to the Netherlands and wore a Dutch registration. 29-09-VD.

It belonged for many years to the garage that I worked in- Headons of Hill Street.
It was originally blue but was repainted white sometime in the late Seventies/early eighties.

It led a fairly hard life and ended up on the banger track.

I got a few odds and ends off the car.

Had it an irish reg when it was here?It actually won the demolition derby today, though it was destroyed by the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Kevin_Herron

No, it was never registered in Ireland.
There was massive duy to be paid at the time and this is ultimately why the car ended up going down hill.

Interesting stuff,it looked like it had been raced a few times previous to now alright,im guessing that photo you just posted was taken in the early 90s going by the riva estate on the 88 plate ahead of it?

It had ford running gear, and a cortina steering wheel,so i reckon so,just for racing though. As far as i know you cant run a LHD car in bangers(unless its a big meet with alot of LHD cars) as theres a danger another car might come in your door by mistake.
