as cool as that Yojimbo chap looks I think a drawing of your own would be the shiznit (I believe that's the popular term nowadays)

Yeah, but I did graphic design in college, the trick is to blast out as many variations and combinations as possible to really get the creative juices flowing, then you'll end up with something really cool by the time it's all come together.

On second thought....hmmmm. I dunno - the blood does add something to it, tbh.

I just stepped away to do some dishes (as one does in situations of great dilemmas like this) and came back to have another look. If you keep the red to a minimum it might give it a bit more character...

Yeah, with just the black & white motif, the blood stands out very sharply. That's why I love the design, but more colour would kill it.

Keep to black, white and red, nothing worse than a gaudy guitar

Not a fan of Petrucci then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

    Don't really know him tbh

Off you go and don't come back until you know Erotomania, ya hear?

Oh he's from Dream Theatre! I do know him so. He's good but not to my particular tastes. Although I only really know A Change Of Seasons

Then I suggest you get the Live at Budokan DVD. A favourite of Doctor J's and Karl Hungus's I believe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I'll have a look for that. Still a horrible looking guitar though :D

You're confused by it's prettiness. It's ok, you'll come round in time :p

You're not colour blind are you?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Nope. Tone deaf but not colour blind :p

    Yeah....

What about an Inlay on the head Karl?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

didn't he already say an emphatic no to inlays?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Only on the ebony fretboard. I reckon a funkeh Japanese symbol in abalone would look sweet above the tuners. Or a serious of symbols.

It could work. I think this could be ok if done a bit more tastefully. Actually now that I look at it a bit closer, I think it's a bit naff. But on the headstock, yeah, that would be pretty cool

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Na, BIG inlays like that don't work unless they're joined together somehow imo. Like the guitar I posted or the Jem Vine of Life.

    hungus.jpg

    1 x SD JB
    1 X LR BAGGS Piezo X-Bridge
Vol and tone for JB (Tone is coil tapped to activate single coil use)
Vol and concentric Bass/Treble Cut/Boost for piezo
    3 way selector

Caine from the popular TV series Kung Fu overseeing matters.

    Geeerupowradah! :D

I know inlays aren't a good thing but a tasteful one, in theme to the guitar might be. You could have a little Samurai figure on the twelfth maybe, done in silver. Could really stand out on the blank board and it'd add to the general aura of the guitar.

Nice! Although it doesn't exactly suit the 'Samurai' idea... And David Carradine has nothing on Toshiro Mifune. A Piezo system is definetly something I might invest in tbh, but I think for now, the plans are just the Hum & 2SCoils. I could always build another guitar with JUST a piezo!? :p

Here's another one I did up, the text this time is from the film Zatoichi.
I really like the way it curves around the body:

    That's quite lovely actually. :)

Thanks. I also left the Doc's "Hungus" logo on there too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Noticed, though you might want to change it to Katakana or something.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Yeah, but for the purposes of these mockups, hungus is a damned fine logo!

Get an engraved truss rod cover. Make it from sterling silver and get it engraved in a jewellers. Fill the engraving with epoxy and ebony saw dust then sand back and polish so there's no epoxy leakage...
