Unlikely. This is the response to both questions.

At this point, I'm wondering what stops him from scooping the career slam this year. Other than Rory's early season form I don't see any challenger who Scheffler should be worried about.

I see the rough is supposed to be brutal, although they say that every year. Apparently Scott and Rory got eviscerated in a practice round this week.

Personally I'm hoping for carnage reminiscent of Shinnecock 04. I want meltdowns, complaints about how they've lost the golf course, ridiculous greens nobody can hold, etc.

Anything can and does happen in the two Opens.

Brian Harman winning unchallenged, Wydham Clarke holding off Rory and that is just the last couple of years.

Be surprised if Scottie wins one, let alone both. Some kind of Rocco Mediate type run would be fun.

Who knows with the US Open. Anything can happen and they (USGA) do love it when par or over par wins. Much as I'd love to see Rory do it, and often he finds himself on the first page of the leader board no matter how bad he seems to play, I can't really see anyone coming close to Scheffler. He just doesn't hit the bad shots that everyone else does. I think it could be TV's worst nightmare at the weekend, Scottie 5 or 6 clear by Saturday evening, boring the brains out of everyone.

I remember the last time it was here Lowry was leading going into final day. It was a tough course

If we don't get a Rory - Scheffler shootout then I'm hoping Lowry can have a week like his R1 to R3 performance at Oakmont in 2016 where he played some brilliant golf. I remember he had to play his last 4/5 holes from R3 on the Sunday morning and he just seemed so relaxed and in control. Couple of things didn't go his way early in R4 and he struggled but did well hold on to a tie for 2nd. It's a very punishing course - hoping for dry and windy conditions.

Lowry's issue is a forth round that doesn't destroy the other 3 and of course streaking putting

Curious as to why Seamus Power didn't make an attempt to qualify - he's not exempt and I couldn't find in him listed in any of the final qualifying rounds. He's playing this week in the RBC Canadian Open, teeing off the first on Thursday just after Lowry.

I’d guess Seamus aim at the moment is retaining tour card than playing 36 holes for a major and what strain it puts on his body

He shot +2 for the first 18 and withdrew. Would have needed -6 for 36 holes for a playoff spot.

Found him (Seamus Power), he played 18 holes in Lambton, Ontario, Canada. The reason I couldn't find him earlier is because his name has the stars and stripes aganst it and his address is given as Las Vegas, Nevada. That's on the US Open final qualifying results.

But he has the tricolour against his name on the RBC Canadian Open leaderboard??

Saw good tweet that if USA wanted to be out of national debt, all they'd have to do is bet like 13 trillion on Scottie winning this

Jaysus , just watched Bryan bros golf , with that lad Horvat , two pros one actual fairly accomplished lower lever PGA pro play the course....it actually looks ridiculous..Going to be a blood bath.

When Ball in rough , hard to find , never mind anything else...

    None break 80 , closer to 90 ...

    Poor lad Horvat 94.

    All These very serious golfers.

I know the guys in event a higher standard..but going to be plenty of rounds in 90s...a thing you don't see in pro golf...

As it should be. Hate seeing -20 and even more rounds. These are supposed to be the best of the best, make them work for it.

It's going to be a massacre and very slow. I think Rory mentioned whoever is the most patient and deals well with the setbacks can win here.

I had a good laugh at Wesley Bryan hitting two wrong balls out of greenside rough. Neither of which belonged to the other lads. Impossible to see markings without lifting and checking the ball.

I'm inclined to think the course might be better suited for the shorter hitters with a high percentage of fairways hit. Obviously approach play is crucial with the treacherous greens but you cant bomb your way around by any means.

Scoring is going to be like a monthly medal comp.

They might want to rethink the phrasing of the sponsorship banner!

Looking forward to this, love watching them in tough conditions. Unless Rory's driving does a 360 he's doomed. Could suit Shane if he putts ok though, he's been great tee to green

I'm normally for hard golf, but I think this is stupid ..unless I'm getting soft with age myself....

Didn't think of slow...we could hit the near 6 hours too...not a good image either

Ah i love when they are struggling around

    Whining out of them.

The later the finish on Sunday the better, get home after a concert and watch the last 4/5 holes with some luck. Knowing said luck, Scottie will be ahead by 10, only player under par

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,961 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

I'd normally agree...but 6 hour rounds and can't find ball in first cut getting stupid...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,070 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

AAlways good to see the 7.29am tee time be delayed waiting for players to clear....6 hours could be conservative

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Ballister pitched pin high with way too much spin and the ball must have rolled back 70 - 80 yards!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭frisbeeface

Heck of a first driver of the day from Rory. 392 yards down the middle.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,453 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

And then sticks it to 5…10…15…20…25…30! yards 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,761 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

If the greens stay as soft as they are Scottie is going to ripmit apart. He'll shootb-6 minimum.

Obviously Rory capable of something similar.

Shane drops of f bomb after bunker shot and follows up with a bogey. Needs to keep the head

I see Shane is at his usual, bogeying the par 5. He has an awful record on par 5s, he's 139th of 176 listed this year.
