was at Mary’s Vs UCD last night, my god UCD look very poor. Didn’t know half of their players and they looked totally disorganised and uncommitted on pitch, could be a long season. Mary’s looked decent, no Watters,Jones or Goggin playing. Going to head to Belvo Vs. Lansdowne tonight

Leinster league kicked. Marys had big win over UCD – going to be a tough year for UCD – think they lost 12 players. I was in Dublin and popped into Belvo Lansdowne game – belvo were unlucky but will take a lot confidence from the game. Tarf beat Wesley – tarf look strong again, Wesley team has changed a lot.

Suttonians playing young Munster tomorrow – strange fixture but fair play to Suttonians - must be preseason trip. Think Cashel are playing Garryowen next week – heard a few limerick fixtures happening next week, YM V Bohs, Shannon v Thomond as senior cup is following wknd.

A lot clubs seem to be away - Naas in Portugal, UCD were in Bayonne, Nenagh in La Rochelle, Hinch were in USA, Marys in Spain next week, Blackrock in Uganda,.

1A: Top 4 will be the usual folks, Tarf Cons Nure Lansdowne Marys – cookies signed a lot of Pros so on their day they will very good. Bottom half will be UCD Hinch Nenagh and Belvo but belvo were good last night.

    • Cork con will be v strong again – hicks will be good at 10, lots UCC lads which will add huge amount as they nearly got promoted with a lot of that team last season.
    • Cookies have brought in 2 Ozzie lads, 10 and 7 from Norths Brisbane, Fintan Coleman is back with them, kiwi 2nd row, Kieran Ryan, john Poland is training with Munster and signed for them, Luke murphy from Shannon signed, Shane o leary back full time on coaching ticket also and playing, , Josh Barr from Shute shield, harry west and Andrew smith,
    • Tarf claiming Cian Healy is togging out. They have sourced a lot of UCD players - I see ross Deegan on wing, Dave Ryan. Richard Whelan is back from la Rochelle Espoir’s. O’Grady brothers also signed, Michael Moloney is an excellent 9. Paul deeny signed from Marys
    • Marys have dan Goggin returning from oz and bringing an 2nd row also from Shute shield. Andrew sparrow will play tight head, Rob Gilsenan, Aaron o Sullivan, Oisin Michel played Wednesday, , Ruari Sheils
    • Lansdowne held Harry o Riordan, mark Roche is on wing, James Tarrant came off bench last night, Bobby Sheehan and tom Daly will add a lot
    • Belvo got James Dillon from 7s program, Chris o Connor was good last night, Ronan o Sullivan is v good 7, will need some bulk up front to survive
    • Nenagh recruited well – will hold their own against a lot team in Nenagh. Planning a big start v belvo and ucd and cons – a lot momentum also and add in Seymour, McSweeney, Kerr, Blackmore, Gleeson, but they need a 10
    • Nure has Carlos coming in – will add a lot, Silvestre is back – probably a small but good player to have back, Rigney, cookies 10 Julian, lost Bennie and Coghlan but Boomer and foreign 9 are good additions and will hickey is in with leinster.

    TOP 4

    1. Tarf
    2. Cons
    3. Nure
    4. Lansdowne

    Relegated

    • UCD
    • Playoff Belvo

1B: BlackRock seemed to have had busy off season, spent wisely – added Connacht pros Shane Jennings and Eoin de buitlear, as well as john Forde, dan hurley, Tim Corkery, pollard, lee fitz the Irish 18s hooker, dan squires, jack Deegan turned down AD ASTRA scholarship to join rock.

Rock plan on going to 1A and have the budget to do it.

Both ucc and Garryowen lost a lot players it seems, as did Wesley and trinity. 1B after BlackRock is wide open.

    No word on northern teams.

    TOP 4

    1. Rock
    2. Instonians
    3. Armagh
    4. Garryowen / Naas

2A: A lot good recruitment done, this will be very much top 6 teams dominating, Wanderers like rock spent well – Corinthians have v good 20s team coming thru and msised out last year, cashel got a few lads from Roscrea school and got few local lads back from oz, dungannon signed well up north, Greystones will be going for playoffs again, Shannon will surely be in the mix Barnhall also. crescent and Ballymena and banbridge will be fighting for survival

    TOP 4

    1. Wanderers
    2. Cashel
    3. Greystones
    4. Corinthians

    2B:

    TOP 4

    1. Wegians
    2. Clogher
    3. Bohs
    4. Corinthians

I thought you were only allowed one "foreign player" as in one player from Australia or New Zealand. I know you can have lads on european passports.

It is worded as one non EU passport holder is your ‘overseas’ player and then you can bring in as many players as you want on EU passports or if a player on a non EU passport is playing his second season in Ireland (I think on the same visa) then the club can apply for them not to be counted as an ‘overseas’ player for that season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 CBC14

Young Munster always seem to go to the foreign market more so than other clubs, I think there is just a lack of players in Limerick and a lot of clubs to populate. Ronan O’Sullivan is a serious signing for Belvo - was always really regarded in CBC and has been very good for Con, losing him and Forde will be a serious blow. UCD Vs. Terenure on Sunday, you would imagine Terenure will win handy, anyone heading to any matches this weekend?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,997 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Terenure beat UCD 33-0 today in cup group A. So UCD lost 2 games. nure and marys beaten them. rock yet ro play bc of their tour to uganda.

Clontarf 40 wesley 17 and belvedere 16 lansdowne 17 in cup group B.

Senior league group A Barnhall beat Skerries 38 21 Naas host Wanderers tomorrow

group B trinity beat Navan 71-0.

    Shield Bective 36 Malahide 21

Think people are sleeping on Bective for 2C this season if I’m honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

Home for a few days from Germany, got to see us play UCD today, to be fair, a very young UCD side, and we overpowered them pretty easily. Think they will struggle this year

Most Junior Sides who come up in recent years go very well, Bective will be decent

Think teams sleeping on Barnhall in 2A too, consistenltly in the top 4 of their league and their u20s were in all ireland final in Terenure last year, was in at it, they will surely bring a few of those up. Great to see this group active, a big help when living away from home to get the updates and gossip

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭luke9311

did college have any of there main players out playing at all? i know alot of players have left and im of the same view as you and others in here that they will struggle this year unless proven otherwise…. im just looking at this time of year thinking sides like them and trinity probably still have lads not back from travelling j1s etc etc yet no? cant imagine it being good for leinster if ucd go down either tbh

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,997 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

teams from all leinster games played so far are on leinster domestic website. UCD back to classes in 2 weeks so many would be back around now in country if on J1. mightnt have done much training but the colleges have lot of guys in mini training camps around this time year anyway

theres enough clubs in 1A that if UCD were to go down it wouldnt necessarily affect Leinster as players if needed would just move to other 1A clubs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,253 ✭✭✭Hey_Ho_Lets_Go_3

Dont think it will make a difference to Leinster tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

Hey Luke - hard to tell, few names from their team sheets from last year but think just the nature and turnover of college sides with sides likes Rock, Belvo, ourselves, Lansdowne etc taking more young lads, means UCD and Trinity in a bit of a downturn

Terenure have Harrison Brewer back from Japan he was a big loss last season. They have a few decent u20's that will be pushing for a place in the 1st XV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 Limerick-Kid

Shannon played Thomond in a friendly last night. Ended in a draw. Shannon relying on a lot of their U20s. Talk locally is that they have struggled to recruit new players in the off season and a number of experienced players retired at the end of last season. They also lost a lot of their Munster contingent following relegation. Not a good sign.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,335 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

Did Keith Earls play for Thomond? Had heard he went back to playing with his old club after retiring from professional rugby.

If so, what position and did he stand out?

He is rumoured to be playing for Thomond this season. wasnt involved in that pre season game and wouldnt expect him to be either. he'll likely if he does play to just come in for any league games.
