Dylan Hicks going to Cork Con not Nenagh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 CBC14

heard rock throwing huge money at schoolboys, Fitzpatrick, Deegan and Rock senior cup players at 5-10 k ahead. Mad how that club operates, maybe a sign of the times. YM adding a lot of bodies, 1A looks like it will be extremely competitive. Who do people fancy for top 4? Clontarf, Con, Lansdowne, Terenure? Presume all recruiting well and spending. Anyone know how Ballynahinch are preparing? St. Mary’s ? UCD under pressure? I think Nenagh will go well

You can go higher than that. I've heard 15k per head.

Tbf Rock club has been like that for years. Bit mad how they operate at times.

Too early to be talking how clubs are preparing. Would be nice this summer if irfu could publish a list of transfers like they have in past or at least clubs provide info to club scene podcast.

Any word on Connacht academy players going to Nenagh?

Couldn't Tell you. Too early to know anything yet

Connacht Academy players staying with Connacht clubs but a few development contract players have joined YM

You would expect Nenagh to get a few Munster players now that they are in 1A

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 Locky247

All these academy lads are all well and good but look at bucs a few years ago with all them academy lads getting up to 1B and now can only get 2 points in 2A going to 2B. It ruins clubs. So good luck to YM taking them on 👍🏻

Heard a rumour of Nenagh getting a few Shannon lads. Talks of Kieran Ryan heading that way could be a good signing. Great scrummager to add to the strong Nenagh Pack.

Training sessions in there will be like AA meetings “my name is _________ and I’m contracted with Connacht/Munster/ulster” ! Will be like a guessing game as to who walks in the dressing room door next !

Any updates on new academy player intakes at the Provinces and which AIL clubs are getting them?

Jonny Scott, Josh Gibson & Connor Magee all moved by Ulster to Queens from Banbridge. Other 3 academy entrants were already at Queens. Dan Green and Flynn Longstaff already at Queens, Tom McAllister at Hinch. Aitzol King allocated to Armagh.

Not much movement in Ulster, Pierce Crowe and Joe Mawhinney from Ballymena to Hinch. Ronan McCusker going from Hinch back to Rainey. Callum Florence from Queens to Belfast Harlequins.

Talk that Andy Warwick, Al O’Connor and Matty Rea are all going to play for Ballymena next season.

heard Blackrock signed a few of the UCC team that lost in the playoff final. Wanderers signed Louis McDonagh from Trinity - that’s great business for a 2a club. Terenure signing Sean French and John Forde from Con supposedly, big loss for Con and massive for Terenure if the case. Belvo signed a Young Munster winger, not sure of the name.

Interesting re: UCC players to Rock, I was wondering myself how many of that team were going to follow the UCC to Con pathway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭RuPi

Wesley is another club with good links to UCC, expected that would be where most would go if they ventured to Dublin.

Forde and French to Terenure would be a huge loss for Con.

Had heard Cian Whooley to Wanderers as well.

I dont believe Forde and French to Terenure is a thing

Locally – all is quiet – Cashel brought in a lad from Shannon - O’Sullivan and got some local lads back from oz. Seemed to have held their own crew I think. They’ve brought in mark butler as defence coach as they fancy going for promotion. Clonmel have new Mgt in with pat O’Connor back again. Nenagh have recruited well and will need a few more. I thought they'd get some of the Shannon players but cookies signed them. The Senior cup is scheduled for 6th September, and the draw will be done by 10th July and will be open draw - as it was seeded last 2 years..

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    In 1A

Lansdowne have got bobby Sheehan and tom Daly is back from France. James Tarrant signed from ucd also. Lost harry Riordan to wanderers

UCD have lost a lot players – they could struggle next year as going thru rebuild. They did sign Mikey o Reilly and Jim white from Nure.

Old Belvo lost Wisniewski to French prod D2 club. But sign Chris o Connor, Hugh o Sullivan, and Gonzaga 9. All 9s

Tarf have signed Hugo Lennox the irish 7s player. They also signed 3 more from UCD - Michael Moloney the 9, and Spicer the 2nd row and Dave ryan – ucd centre/wing

Marys have signed Oisin Michel, Oisin Kearney, Aaron o Sullivan, Andrew sparrow. Also signed will Reilly the Clontarf 9. Evan Moynihan from ucd.

Nure signed back Silvestre from USA, Sean Rigney and Julian Leszczynski from cookies. Alan Bennie is gone travelling

Young Munster – lost a lot players and signed a lot

    • the 9 Donnacha o Callaghan / Cian casey / Conor Nesbitt all went to Bohs - Simon Malone connection. Tom Goggin to Thomond,
    • they signed a lot of Pro players = Kieran ryan / Luke murphy / Harry west / Andrew Smith and then other club players = Kelvin Langan / Liam Macmahon / Orin Burke / Daniel Normoyle / ben Everard from Clonmel and bringing in a few foreigners again

Cork Con signed 5 lads from UCC = Cogan / Hyland / Foy / Condon/ French on top of Dylan Hicks. Cons losing Bowen and Taylor to oz, John Forde and dan hurley to BlackRock

Nenagh signed Luke Kerr the cons 9 / Cronan Gleeson, Kevin Seymour, Shane o Leary, and Blackmore is back also. Darragh McSweeney also going to them from Shannon. Lost ben pope the 10.

No real news up north – I see Marcus rea is gone coaching Ballymena.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In 1B it seems Blackrock have signed very well, john Forde from cons / tim corkery from ucd / jack pollard / jack Deegan the Roscrea 13 / ingo cruise from irish 7s / Lee Fitzpatrick / Daniel Squires from UCC / Dan hurley from cons.

Garryowen lost a few with Langan to cookies / Kearney to Marys / Seymour to Nenagh / Oliver to Glasgow / Colm Hogan retired / Hicks to cons. Signed a few club lads from around Limerick.

UCC lost a lot to cons, Squires to rock, Jed Dwyer from old crescent signed

Wesley seems to have a lot a few in Cassidy / Pim / Gleeson / Noonan / Fay and Doyle also but signed ben Popplewell from Lansdowne and jules fenelon from Nure.

Naas signed a Lansdowne 9 – Tadgh Brophy

Trinity lose alot players also. McDonogh went to wanderers.

Highfield have signed james cronin back as player coach. Cian Bohane is gone.

    Not much on northern teams.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In lower leagues – wanderers seemed to be signing everyone – ive heard 24 players have signed – sean Skehan effect. He likes to spend.

Kevin beggs will be sending fixtures this Friday or latest next Monday - 30th June

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭Stainalert

I stand to be corrected but I don't believe Harry O'Riordan has left Lansdowne

Is Sean Rigney the ex Munsters player that got sick in Australia - if so good to hear he is back playing?

Transfers seem to be very elevated this year

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,810 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Yep on nenagh. Local paper had piece saying Kevin Seymour, cronan Gleeson, Matthew Hodgins. Luke kerr all signed. As has academy darragh mcsweeney and then angus blackmore is coming back from oz

    Are squads ever formally/centrally announced.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,810 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

not really. Long time ago now but irfu used to or at least prov9nces used to release on their websites all players who transferred in/out of clubs ahead of season. Now it doesn't happen bar in a few places like local/regional papers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 970 ✭✭✭MICKEYG

Would help promotion of the league if squads with bios were listed. Seems to be only some of the clubs who do this

Good to see Nenagh have signed a lot of good lads, will be good for them. McSweeney & Kerr will be big for them and I heard Ryan rumours are true. Blackrock seemed to have recruited well & I see Trinity have brought in some new coaches including the Tarf 20s coach from last year's double winning side. UCD have a lost a lot of players, so you'd be worried for them again. Brewer & Sylvestre back for Terenure with Coghlan staying. Lansdowne addressed issues at 10 and 2 by signing UCD's starters. I heard Old Belvedere got in O'Sullivan along with some good young talent, heard they've brought in Hugh Hogan & Richie Allen, not sure on exact roles.

In the lower leagues it seems Wanderers have recruited very well with several Trinity players joining including likes of Whooley, while I hear Bective Rangers have brought in a lot of fresh faces and some proven AIL players from 1A and 1B.

I see Conor O’Shaughnessy has signed to the Connacht academy.

I wonder will he be encouraged to move from Blackrock as a result. I'm not sure where he'd go but it would be a big loss for Blackrock
