Looks decent enough Ros4Sam24. That LP dragging in warm moisture rich air, could be high teens / 20C fairly widely and a bit over in a few places, Dp's above the mid teens so very muggy day. Looks like an arm of the Jetstream over us too for parts of the day which will increase the Deep Layer Shear and a fair bit of vorticity with that LP rotating away from us to the South giving decent Low Level Shear as the lower winds become cyclonic . Good Lifted Index. I wonder could we get a couple over night to in the S or SE? Funnels might make an appearance tomorrow also.

I don’t think this amounted to anything. M.E didn’t issue a warning for here yet the one above mentioned it would be worst further west which is eventually here ha.

Scattered heavy showers and a few thunderstorms are expected during Sunday. Rainfall amounts will vary from place to place but in some locations 20-40 mm is possible within a couple of hours. Heavy downpours of rain will be the primary hazard, but lightning strikes and hail are also possible.

    Valid: 12:00 Sunday 20/07/2025 to 20:00 Sunday

I think that thundery rain in the Irish Sea will arrive before the match ends?

Yeh looks like it. For what it's worth Met Eireann have thunderstorms for Dublin from 2am onwards. Match should be a belter.

The Hurling final will experience some very heavy rain at around half time or into the second half. No lightning in that cell currently, hopefully it stays that way for the sake of the match.

Absolutely serious downpour in Oranmore Village about half an hour ago, heard no rumbles or saw no lightening but probably the most intense rainfall I've seen this year.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

serious one coming my way in cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,315 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

anyone know why lightning frequently happens over the sea off the south coast and west coast but never happens over the Irish Sea. The sea temperatures would be similar so that’s not a reason. I can’t ever remember a thunderstorm approaching Dublin from the east in summer - not once (thunder snow is completely different)

Siobhan Ryan mentioning possibility of heavy thundery rain tonight for north Leinster and East coast in particular. ME forecasting thunderstorms and high humidity for me in Portrane.
