The Karcher battery was pretty much the same price €85 v £75. The Canon battery is a cheap copy - handy to have as a backup in the bag and was €17 versus about £8. The power bank was one that was mentioned here as good value, I have no idea what the UK price was.

At least you got an email! I ordered on 20th, delivery date was 24th. The app showed "arriving today by 8pm" last Monday, even though it hadn't been dispatched!

At some point on Monday afternoon, the app details changed to "delivery date 26th". No email, no apology for delay (which I've got from the .de site a few times).

@supernova5 From shopping on .co.uk your Total Price on your invoice should include any possible custom charges/Vat/Tax. It is amazon that is importing the goods, so it is their problem and not yours. Should not be any more charges on delivery, if that is your concern?

It will be interesting to see if more products that were very keenly priced after the launch follow suit now a lot of people have switched to the Irish site. I bought a few packs of them at 0.75c but not a hope in hell of spending €6.34 on them! I won't be switching yet until the dust settles and it's seen what's on offer here.

Can anyone tell me if it's worth taking the free upgrade from Prime Video to Prime?

I watch a lot of TV but would order products occasionally.

Get onto Amazon chat and explain . I used 10 euro but delivery date was too long so cancelled it and couldn't reuse vocuher. They gave me 10 euro credit to apologize

Just to follow up, as I suspected, the electrical item arrived the other day with the EU power cord. This is even after contacting customer support before ordering. Looks like the item shipped from Germany.

To be fair to Amazon.ie though, I got back in touch and they refunded 20% of the cost of the item to cover the purchase of an official UK power cord for the item so good customer service there.

The agent did admit that it is early days for the IE site and they are working through some initial issues and taking all feedback onboard so lets hope that the service does improve over the coming weeks and months.

Nice 30w anker power bank. £12.99 for uk residents.

Edit: and we are the most expensive for this on hagglezon.

How annoying. I clicked onto amazon.ie on the launch day and saw the 10 off 50 deal.

Came back another day and saw no sign of the offer anywhere so assumed it was a launch day deal. Bought firestick lite for like 47 euro and another thing for 30.

Firestick arrives a day or two later. I go onto amazon to see a spring sale, firestick is 30 euro on offer. And also the 10 off 50 deal is right there in my face again. lol

I know I couldn't use both deals but got screwed twice by myself.

The good thing about amazon is being able to get things like the firestick. Couldn't buy them from the UK site.

Bad thing is the product ranges seem to be smaller.

Does the firestick run the rte player or is that still an issue ? On the amazon.ie site it still states it’s not compatible.

    I've got a serious question!

Has anyone noticed their email address being sold to a 3rd party company, after using amazon IE?

I bought something on amazon from Joseph Joseph on Wednesday 26th.

I woke up this morning to an email direct from Joseph Joseph, a standard promo email.

I've not had any direct interaction with this company, apart from looking for the item I ended up buying on amazon, on other sites.

I've only made 1 order with the IE but I had the opposite experience. It wasn't due until Wednesday but it arrived an hour ago.

So your bought on Amazon market place and if you bought from Joseph Joseph that company was probably passed your email address in case they needed to contact you. Bad form they contacted you outside Amazon, you can report it.

Wake me up when it's all over.

I bought it on Amazon IE, it said dispatched by and sold by Amazon IE, forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's not marketplace, right?

    https://www.amazon.ie/dp/B004Q7EE32

Who do I report it to, would that be Amazon? :)

Sorry your right thats direct from Amazon JJ should have nothing to do with the transaction.

As a long time user of Amazon (co.uk), with Prime, I thought the opening of Amazon.ie would give me the same product choice but maybe some benefits with regard to duties, etc… so opened an Amazon.ie account and transferred my Prime to it. Well, I am disappointed… maybe it is startup problems… though never had ANY problems with Amazon.co.uk. Products on the .co.uk site are not available on the .ie site. I don't quite understand what is going on but as one example a friend provided a link to an item on the uk site that I wanted so I tried to find the item on the .ie site, (to get my free Prime delivery) but it was not there. Now I have had to order it on the uk site + pay delivery charge (as I transferred my Prime to the NEW Amazon.ie site). Annoying!!! The question now is, should I transfer Prime back to the Amazon.co.uk and continue to use it as in the past… so much for Amazon.ie!!

    @marcbrophy Report it to amazon!

But if you google "does amazon share the buyers email with retailers"

    image.png

It has me wondering about your internet security, that this information has leaked out to seller! (if it's a valid email from them and not some scam?)

Was the email routed through amazon's service?

This is why I had asked specifically here, I've never encountered this from Amazon UK or indeed any other site that I can remember!

It's not the 3rd party Amazon one, that you might see if you bought marketplace and they want a survey or something, this was from that company themselves, like I was one of their customers that had signed up for a newsletter!

    image.png

Thing is, the only interaction I have with the company is buying one of their products from Amazon IE, 4 days ago!
My update settings are the same as yours!

I did visit this site once, on the 7th March, put a couple of things in the basket and went through to checkout, to see how much shipping would charge.
I didn't complete the checkout however, a process I've done on loads of sites in the past, trying to get a final price on something, but never had those other companies e-mail a flyer afterwards.

Could that be the cause of it? I don't want to blame Amazon, if it was me being careless, you know! :D

Maybe chalk this one down to me being dumb, but others who read this, let us know if you encounter any behaviour like this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,237 ✭✭✭con747

I did similar in the past with companies and deleted my info before actually purchasing and received an email asking did I forget to check out so it happens. Maybe not an Amazon issue if you entered your email on the J&J site. I could be wrong though.

I went back to take a look at the checkout, and it would not have needed any email, for me to get the shipping estimate, so I doubt I did it. Just didn't want to leave out that I'd been on the site before, cos I honestly forgot, and just found it on my other browsers history :D

Also, that was more than 3 weeks ago, when Amazon purchase was 4 days ago, so I'm more inclined to blame Amazon, as a "did-you-forget" email would have been much quicker, and not a generic flyer!

At this stage, we'd just need it to happen to at least one other person, otherwise I've no proof either way :)

@marcbrophy and others, if you use a gmail address you can modify it to see who is misusing your email address.

For example say your email address is marcbrophy1974@gmail.com gmail will treat marcbrophy.1974@gmail.com exactly the same because gmail ignores full stops in the username. m.arcbrophy1974@gmail.com would work just the same.

So if you are putting your email address into a site you aren't sure off add the full stop in somewhere, can be a different place each time, then when you get hit with spam with an email address with the extra full stop it it you know where you used it.

Wake me up when it's all over.

@The Continental Op Good tip! Utilised it myself recently (last month) to create an alternative account on a site.

An easier way is to use an alias in the Gmail address. So I can do ohnonotgmail+companyname@gmail.com

Anything after the + and before the @ is ignored by gmail but it is displayed by gmail. Change the companyname part for every company you give your email to and you will see who is selling your email.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,372 ✭✭✭corkie

It is not just gmail that you can do it on. Haven't tested but this is what I was informed:-

With any email system, you should be able to add a + and then words after your name, but before the @ in your email.

It's part of sub-addressing, which is part of the email standard to support inbox filters. It's often unused though, which means that some websites don't actually support it, because they get the regex wrong.

    Thanks all!

That trick with the dots is a new one to me! fairly useful I'd say!

I was aware of the sub-addressing with the + which would work too.

Thing is I'm nearly 100% certain I didn't enter any email on JJ site.
I'm still blaming Amazon on this one :D

Just noticed the available items on .ie are significantly different. I was looking to buy a cheap tripod! 20€ on UK but now I have to pay shipping. It's around €100 on the ie site. I asked Amazon! I cannot switch back but I can purchase an additional UK subscription.
