Yes, the NTA placed their first order with Wrightbus back in June 2022, the first Double Decker BZL's didn't arrive until 2023 (though single deckers were around earlier).

I've no idea if true, but I also remember another poster saying in the past that the contract for the SG class was with Volvo, not Wrightbus and that Volvo were responsible for service and maintenance, but the NTA weren't happy with the service, which is why they might have tried ADL for the PA's. Again I've no idea if true.

These BZL's are made in Turkey by MCV. Volvo Chassis, MCV body.

I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing that our buses are made just up the road and the relationship is with one company, the manufacture of both chassis and body. That should make support easier.

The Electroliners are extremely popular in the UK, Go Ahead UK recently placed an order for 1,200 of them over 3 years! And they seem to be working quiet well for us, despite some issues.

Having said that, it is great that there are more options now, these are the double deckers widely available:

    • Wrightbus Electroliner
    • ADL Enviro400EV (the new ones, with CATL batteries and no involvement with BYD).
    • Volvo/MCV BZL
    • BYD BD11

No idea what has been going on with Switch/Optare.

What is was told BK, at the of the hybrids being ordered the Volvo hybrid (VH fleet) was the first choice but since Wrightbus went bust at the time it went to ADL, that was from someone in the engineering department that said it. So take it as it is

The Volvo hybrids were VH not the AH. The AHs were the ADL hybrids on trial.

Had an unfortunate incident with one of the new EW class buses just after Hartstown roundabout yesterday . It broke down . Given the setup of the road , it was a bit tough for people getting off the bus etc.

It was still there 90 minutes later when I passed that area again .
