Power gone in Castlebar. Worse it's getting. Really dreading to think what damage is being done. Terrified the solar panels are going to get lifted

Mostly awake here in Laois for the last hour. House rattling and creaking, wind whipping around the corner above my head and that disturbing whistling sound every few minutes.

This one is rough. They got this right to be fair.

Sorry, apologies if posted already but Mace head had a 174 gust on the last report from met.ie. that's 15km p/h faster than the biggest gust during Ophelia or Darwin (ignoring the 191km gust at Fastnet lighthouse in the middle of the sea). Wow. Is that the highest of the night so far? was asleep til now.... Interestingly that gust is way stronger than the next nearest on the last reports, being 137km in Shannon. A 130km in Knock also and then a spread of 120kms or so up and down the country.

South Leitrim here. Oh my God the gusts are insane in the last 10 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,345 ✭✭✭Rebelbrowser

And of course it goes to 183km while I typed that. Incredible stuff

South West mayo. Electricity gone at 2am . Very Very wild out. Consistent high winds with unbelievable gusts threatening to lift the roof. Gusts seem to be getting worse.

Thankfully my kids and wife are sleeping through this storm somehow.

Dread the morning scan of the damage around the place.

    Peaked?

it’s only getting started now in Dublin

I’m awake since half three here in Blanch with the wind whistling around the apartment. This is definitely the worst storm we’ve had around this neck of the woods. I can only imagine how terrible it must be out west. Stay safe everyone!

Gusts picking up again, something just flew past my window.

    NW Dublin

3 hrs into it here and 5 to go…(south east / waterford/wexford/Kk region) can’t say it’s been that extreme yet thank god. In an urban location and thankfully electricity still fine…….hopefully the worst is over🤔 hard to get back to sleep though.

Mace is on its own really, next nearest is Knock at 141km (which is a serious gust, don't get me wrong, but 42km p/h less)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 245 ✭✭sudocremegg

Seems to be calming a bit in the SE. Very intense gusts around 3-4am. Still quite windy and dangerous.

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like ophelia was worse.

Met.ie says we're in the worst of it right now in south Dublin, continues like this for another hour or two and then starts to ease off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭typhoony

Here on the galway Clare border it seems to be easing up just a tad, a few longer lulls in between the crazy winds

A cat just flew past my window Lietrim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,284 ✭✭✭Dazler97

I’d say we will get a 200km/h gust perhaps by 06:30 in Galway at a guess , lights flickering here a lot gonna go out and have a smoke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭lordleitrim

Then why are ME only giving RED coverage from 6am for Dublin if worst of winds was prior to it?

Roof tiles put up a brave fight but sadly faced one gust too many and a number of them landed on the driveway. Thankfully had moved the cars earlier.

If it ramps up any more in Meath the damage to the house will be significant.

seems to be getting more powerful again here in north Offaly. Hard to see how there won’t be huge damage done. Wish it would just fcuk off now at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,252 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Says 6-11 for Laois. It's already worse than I remember in a long time.

Don't think I'll be going back to sleep anyway. Might as well get up and showered etc while we still have power just in case that goes (hasn't in years)

Offaly Laois border. Zero ability to sleep in this.

Everything locked down thankfully. One single bucket flying around the back yard in a very freaky manner. I would not like to be out in that at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,604 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

That is to be expected given Knock is much further inland. The max gust for Knock is 97 mph according to Arpege. Let's see can it be realised. I doubt it will somehow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,252 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Ah jaysus.. Poor thing. No pets/particularly small animals should be out in this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 246 ✭✭Ros4Sam24

    Power gone f*ck north Ros

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 249 ✭✭GHendrix

By the sounds of it, some areas that haven’t hit Red yet probably should have an hour or 2 ago. Even if just for safety / precaution

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 836 ✭✭✭bazlers

Light of day going to reveal alot of hardship to come for many.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 322 ✭✭watchclocker

Well it's only giving the 6am time now, so I presume the timings across the top are up to 6am, and it uses my location so other areas of dublin may get worse at 6
