I was issued with a warning by Jim2007 for being uncivil for this post in B&I&P:

The OP asked a generalised question while trying to apply it to their specific circumstances. My reply explained why they shouldn't do that, and what their next steps should be. I don't understand how this post was considered uncivil in any way, shape, or form, and I request that the warning be removed from my record

Hi @Jim2007, can you explain what I'm being warned for here? I wasn't aggressive or hostile, I didn't use any abusive language, and I provided the same advice as you did in your post on the discussion. I don't see anything in my post that merits a warning

Sorry for the long delay but I really needed Jim's input as I needed the reason behind it was not a clear cut decision for me to rule it either way. As noted due to the holidays Jim has not been available which has made this take longer than normal. Jim has now come back to me and given me the context I was lacking previously to help clarify the reason behind it. Before I give my ruling allow me to expand on this context because I think it's important to clarify. The banking forum is a more serious tone forum because people will (even if it's clearly flagged as not being professional advise forum) make financial decisions that can have serious impact on their economy and future lives. This is why the standards of post expectations are higher than in let's say AH or other forums. This is not intended to be your local pub talk and the focus is to give relevant and accurate advise and hence have a higher standard of posting requirements accordingly.

Now; with that out there let's return to your post and the zero point warning you got for it. Your last sentence was perfectly fine; the problem lies with your first part; this is does not rise to the standard expected but it's not a personal attack, racist, etc. but simply not useful. Hence; zero point warning stating this is not the level we expect here but it's not at the level of being offensive; it's a warning in the same way a mod posts on thread stating to up the standard of posting and was given to another user on the same thread for the same reason.

Hence; with this context in mind I'm upholding it.

Hi @Nody, thanks for the update. However, I'm still at a loss as to where the incivility is in my post. If anything, if I had only posted the "perfectly fine" last sentence, I would have understood a warning - it could easily be seen as curt and dismissive with no useful information. The whole point of the first part of my post was to explain why the OP needed to speak to their lender for their specific circumstances and not rely on a general answer.

Additionally, the reason given for the warning appears to have changed - initially, it was because it was my post was "uncivil". Now it is because it was "not useful/serious". As far as I can see, those are two completely different things.

As it stands, the warning hasn't served its purpose - I have no idea as to how I could modify my posting to avoid future similar warnings.

With those points in mind, I would like to continue with my appeal.

I had a look at this and to be honest, even with the context above from Nody I am struggling to see why the post was actioned. The post came off as a little condescending at worst but I don't think that's worthy of action here.

I will reverse it.
