    That seat is wide open.

They won't give it to Yuki and I don't think Lawson is ready for it yet.

Colapinto's recent crashes have probably ruled him out.

Would they give Danny Ric another run at it?

Sainz deserves that seat, the Williams is a tractor at the moment!

If Danny Ricc wasn't good enough for RB, he's hardly going to slot into Checo's seat. Sainz wasn't picked up initially, won't be now that he's in contract.

It's going to cost to get rid of Checo. I'm betting he'll still be there next year. Hoping not.

Good evening all. Dinner is in the oven and looking forward to qualifying.

Not going to happen but man I’d love if Alonso took the second seat beside Max. Great combo that would be.

Jensen really is so much better than nearly all the Sky pundits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,797 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Jensen button, Naomi Schiff, and Bernie Collins are much easier to listen to than most of the rest.

The speed they carry through turns 12, 13 and 14 is proper impressive!

    This track is getting quicker.

Where have Redbull found this pace from?

Perez gets into the top 10.

Not going to get my hopes up just yet, surely Max can’t get pole?

    Class pole Max

    Will that be investigated ?

    edit: it’s been noted anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,794 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

He would have gotten pole in the McClaren or the Ferrari too, even Hamilton's Merc.

    Might be punished though.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,725 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Hopefully he doesn’t lose the pole, Russell wasn’t on a fast lap might be his saving grace.
No doubt Sky will spend 20 minutes analysing it…

Mercedes car seems to have improved considerably in the last few weeks. I wonder what have they done to that car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,795 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Not a great qualifying session, but mad to see the improvement of the red bulls.

Qatar track is a bore. And there's so few fans there too...

Max gets a 1 place grid penalty.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,725 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

What a load of bollix. Russell wasn’t even on a push lap. Well hopefully the Red Bull is competitive on race pace and we get a decent fight at the front.

max wont give a rats ass, he still claims the pole

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭niallm77

Cooler temps with races at night seem to suit them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,795 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

The feeling that Max is unfairly penalised for things will continue.

Wow This sport is gone to the dogs or should I say the stewards. What a load of crap. Corrupt f1.

Russell is such a cry baby, I really hate that guy. A penalty on the out lap. A new rule made up. Its sincredible. But hey Sainz can cross pit lane entry, nothing to see here. Also Sainz didn't get a penalty for unsafe release today either.

There are bigger issues going on here behind closed doors. Dare I say, there are people high up in this sport who have a personal vendetta against Max.

Just read this from the report. Let this sink in.

it was obvious that the driver of Car 63 had clear visibility of Car 1 and that neither car was on a push lap."

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 700 CMod ✭✭✭✭LIGHTNING

Whats the bet Max doesnt bother braking for Turn 1 and just wipes out George.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭quokula

The penalty for Verstappen was ridiculous, but there was nothing wrong with what Sainz did in the previous race.

It's not against the rules to cross that line if you're not pitting, Sky just pulled that out of their arse. On some tracks such as Austria the racing line even goes across the pit entrance line. The rule is pretty clear - you can't cross that line from the outside in to pit, but it's perfectly fine to cross it from the inside out and continue on your way. Which is why Sainz did it without a second thought and there was no issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭Longing

Ok was not aware going across pit lane entry was legal. But what about this has a comparison.

Look at Brazil, where Mercedes got away unscathed after altering their tyre pressures, which normally results in DQ. Or Norris, who started the race when the lights weren't green. Nothing! Which would hinder the driver's progress.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭quokula

Oh yeah without question both of those should have been properly penalised. The stewarding has been terrible in general without question. There are specific stewards, Johnny Herbert who has been involved in a host of terrible calls this year and Gary Connelly who is at this race and is no doubt behind the Verstappen penalty as he has a long well documented track record of holding a grudge against Max and taking decisions against him.

There have been a lot of sackings at the FIA recently and MBS looks like he's in the process of breaking up the old boys club that was running things, which might end up with a more professional organisation in the medium term but probably more turmoil in the short term. The new race steward at least is definitely leagues ahead of Wittich who was going to cause a tragedy sooner or later with his repeated delays to safety calls to wait for competitive situations played out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,346 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

At this stage the stewards are just making sh!t up as they go. Nobody got a penalty in sprint quali for doing the same thing driving unnecessarily slowly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭niallm77

Except the race directors notes apparently said you cannot cross the line once your inside it IIRC.

Kinda like Hamiltons practice starts in Sochi in 2020, that penalty came from his disobeying the RDs notes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,481 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Just to remind some of the amateur referees here, the race director has no say in handing out penalties. It is at the discretion of the stewards. The race director is NOT a steward. The race director can ask stewards to review (incident noted) the stewards can agree (under investigation) or disagree (no further investigation)

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭Longing

On data released. Max had to brake because Alonso was slowing down in front. Meanwhile, George was barrelling down the straight as if on a hot lap. Then Russell slowed down after overtaking Max.

Im surprised RB have not appealed. Or will the use this can of worms in the future.

Was he done for being too slow across the lap? They have target lap times to ensure they're not too slow. If that's the issue then not as much of a concern.

If he's been done for impeding when the car he impeded wasn't on a flyer than that's suss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭Longing

''Quote'' he was investigated for driving unnecessarily slowly in front of Russell. End Quote

Not for Delta. Russell accelerated to make up delta on his lap that's when he came across Max. All cars were jockeying for position, Max had already let two cars passed, one of which was Alonso who then slowed to snail pace.

Unnecessarily slowly considering the circumstances that was FIA take on it for the grid penalty. Even when all drivers are looking for the best positions on their out lap for a flying lap.

Why did it also take them so long to even reach a decision.

THat Verstappen penalty is a joke. How often do we see it and no action.

Not sure if he just means he would like to see corners taken quicker.
