Maximum number of magazines for a .22 Lr pistol

Is there a limit on the number of magazines a licenced .22 Lr pistol holder can have per pistol? I'm aware that magazines must be restricted to a 5 round capacity but I can't find any information online on the number of magazines allowed. There's no reference to the number of magazines in the 2015 amendment SI 391/2015. Is there another piece of legislation that does stipulate one magazine per gun?

Thanks. I've emailed a couple of RFD's to enquire about availability and one replied that their new .22 Lr would only be supplied with one mag despite it coming with two as standard so I thought there may be some regulation I've never heard of. Perhaps it was just a mistake.

Most rifles, that are mag fed, only come with one mag. More money to be made by the manufacturer in selling additional magazines.

True Cass but the OP specifically mentioned a Pistol 22 LR, they normally come with 2 magazines. All mine did anyway.

You're absolutely right. Pistols are usually supplied with two mags. Was replying to a lad about rifles and rifle got stuck in my head.

There is one RFD I’m aware of who is selling glock 44s but only providing one magazine although two do come with it as standard .Other dealers I’ve checked with provide two at the same price.As with everything it pays to shop around before buying.

cilldara hunting provide two mags with it . Had one in stock earlier in the week when I was there .

Have you held the glock before ? I had my mind made up I wanted one until I held it , felt very airsoft ish to me so I went with a 1911 instead .i was surprised with the selection of pistols in cilldara , well worth a visit if your buying .

Thanks for the heads up. I'll give them a try. I've never held the 44 but I've watched a lot of reviews and heard some say it's toy like due to the polymer slide but I've shot the Glock 19 a few times on the continent and it was my favourite gun so I'd like to get the 22 version. The Colt 1911 rail gun, if that's the one, looks impressive.

It looks good but I'v read that Glock put huge effort into making a slide that cycled well, at least with quality ammo, and they felt they needed the low weight of plastic and a 10 round mag max to achieve that. I'm not convinced that this really would work as well over a large sample size of guns.

My sig p322 runs perfectly with an aluminum slide and a red dot on top..

The g44 should have been an aluminum slide gun. The polymer slide is ridiculous from an engineering standpoint it's utter bullshit of an excuse

If you want a Glock anagram.. buy a Taurus TX22 aluminum slide and new models are cut to accept Glock sights and RMSC cut like my sig

Once again, Irish businesses trying to screw punters for additional profit, this time, by only supplying one mag, when it should be two.

Very frustrating, and all I can say is don't do business with them!

As for Glocks, it's down to personal preference, but I much prefer a slightly heavier pistol - I find the muzzle doesn't lift as much on firing, so you're quicker getting back on target, while they probably absorb a little recoil, and are also more robust, imho.

Bought a Ruger Mk4 Target last month. Came with 2 mags and the RFD threw in an additional mag because of some delays in getting the pistol in.

The RFD included an extra mag when I pointed out that other dealers supplied two as standard.

Dead right , Trying to catch a customer out for a €40 magazine is a very short sighted move .The price of the gun is nearly the cheapest part of shooting when you compare it to the years to come of buying ammo and other bits when shooting on a range .

what’s not been mentioned is that there is no restriction on the number of magazines for your firearm (pistol). You can source them from anywhere in the uk and ireland or Europe (the US is harder as they are sacred of their sh*t on the export laws even thought they are not a restriction…) there is one company Riflemags.co.uk (i think without checking the address) that will provide a wide variety of magazines for pistols despite pistols being not legally licensed. On the uk. I Also agree - if you are being shorted of the second magazine then change your dealer. I know that you have to invest time getting the serial number for the firearm - and then apply for the licence - but remember - once you have the licence you can apply for a substitute for a different serial number. Which will only take about 2 weeks to do. (Supposed to be 14 days - but heck if it takes 4 weeks its still good.

The OP can buy another gun anywhere he likes. He can source spare mags anywhere he likes.

I bought Sig P226 mags from Canada (GSDesigns) last year. Straight in no problems. But a few have said to me that I was maybe lucky?

I’ve also bought a few things from rifle mags. Good products but always allow for customs. I haven’t got anything from them that hasn’t been added onto by our nice government.

Hi, If the different serial number would be when you are selling your own licenced firearm and replacing it with a similar kind of firearm. Instead of taking the months and months to get it - you would generally only have to wait 2 to 4 weeks (well some places it might be a littler longer…). That being said - if you want a second firearm and are keeping your existing one - then in mu experience you have to go the whole 3 or 4 months again…
